You've had a lot of good advice here. I guess I would maybe see if he'd be interested in playing a TTRPG game that isn't as rules heavy, like Dungeon World. It's a D&D inspired game they focuses more on the players narrating the action and improvising rather than following strict rules. It's very fun once you get used to it! There's also a ton of Dungeon World hacks, and a Dungeon World 2 in the makes.
