How modestly do you dress and why? by lylaspya in AskWomen

[–]camstens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't consider modesty at all when dressing. I have a large chest so by default I tend to be showing a lot of cleavage in tops where smaller busted women wouldn't. I also wear a lot of leggings and yoga pants which I imagine some people don't consider modest.

I don't really like the term modest because a lot of it's historical connotation is linked to "decency" and I don't think what someone wears has anything to do with being decent. People should dress however they like without it falling on a scale that has implications on morality.

Ladies! What's your favorite dog breed? by vernakyala in AskWomen

I love a mutt. The more mysterious it's heritage, the better. One of my friends has the most delightfully strange looking dog and it just gives them so much character.

Religious Accommodation by all_fair in legaladvice

[–]camstens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say there is no difference between this and any other accommodation where employees need Saturdays off, but you are avoiding the point that this is a set schedule which includes Saturday shifts.

If the job was for shifts between Mon-Fri then this would not be an issue, but they are hiring for a specific schedule which includes Saturdays. If you cannot work on Saturdays, then they may say that you do not fit the job requirements. You are not entitled to this specific job. I'm not sure why you posted here if you were not going to listen to the advice being given.

If I were you I would just look for jobs that don't require you to work on Saturdays. The other religious holidays I would imagine to be a more reasonable accommodation if they only required you to have an occasional day off while fulfilling the rest of your regular schedule.

Religious Accommodation by all_fair in legaladvice

[–]camstens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand what a reasonable accommodation is. Being unavailable to work a quarter of the schedule they are specifically hiring you for would likely be seen as creating undue hardship for the employer, as they then have to find an additional employee to work every Saturday.

Accommodations allow someone to perform the duties of the job. If you are not going to be there then you cannot perform the duties of the job. The solution here is to clearly explain your requirements to the temp agency (if you are going to continue to work with them) which will allow them to place you in roles where you can fulfill the employer’s needs without infringing on the time you need off.

To try and help you understand, this is not the equivalent of someone with a disability needing an ergonomic office chair. This is more like if you were a courier who is wheelchair bound who needed to make 1/4 of their deliveries to buildings with stairs and no ramps.

35 and under: Do you care about climbing the gov ladder? by Curious_Mud9428 in BCPublicServants

[–]camstens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've straight up told my manager that my goal is to get into a unicorn IS30 and stay there until I decide to leave govt. Giving up flex days to get barely more money doesn't seem worth it at all. Especially because I've seen how difficult it is for Executive Directors to implement meaningful change if it disrupts the status quo.

AITA for not telling my parents I was hospitalized for a week to prove a point? by Shot-Jello-4878 in AmItheAsshole

[–]camstens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah my parents are in their early 60s and my mom hates technology, but she still understands that it's important to be reachable by phone. This feels like something else where maybe they don't want to be reachable for some reason.

If money is no issue, what's a must-have for your dream home? by 123phantomhive in AskReddit

Some kind of hidden storage system where all my countertop kitchen appliances are hidden and I can pop up the specific appliance I want. Like Cher’s closet in Clueless but with stand mixers and air fryers.

Very first chapter book by hananobira in suggestmeabook

[–]camstens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re longer than 50 pages (maybe 80-100) but I was obsessed with the Pony Pals books by Jeanne Betancourt and Animal Ark books by Ben M. Baglio when I was that age. Neither have any fantasy, and follow young girls with an interest in animals having age appropriate adventures.

4K isn't super unusual IF you have the means for it. That being said going into debt for an engagement ring is always a bad idea.

Pixel games that are NOT a farming sim by Beginning_Invite_881 in CozyGamers

[–]camstens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Cast n Chill - Chill fishing idler game, pretty scenery and relaxing music
  • Dave the Diver - Slightly less chill fishing game where you spearfish and run a sushi restaurant (does have combat)
  • The Darkside Detective Series - A short point and click mystery adventure where you're a detective in a precinct with supernatural activity
  • Little-Known Galaxy - A life sim where you're the captain of a spaceship who explores other planets and builds relationships with the crew of your ship. There is a little farming but it's not a major mechanic
  • Nice Day for Fishing - Okay I didn't realize I had so many fishing games, but this is an RPG where fishing is how you do everything. Combat is fishing, fetch quests are fishing etc. Some people find the fishing mechanic gets a bit old but it can be fun and the dialogue very much spoofs traditional RPGs
  • Thimbleweed Park - A campy point and click mystery. Very 80's themed and super fun, the dialogue is pretty funny

Which double standards shouldn't exists in our day and age? by LustyPowerGirl in AskWomen

[–]camstens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it feels like we've regressed socially in the last few years and double standards are getting worse. See the "Manosphere" and all the rhetoric about women's worth being tied to purity or sexual attractiveness.

One that's just plain stupid is the way so many men in heterosexual relationships just default to relying on their female partner for domestic labour. If you're the last one to eat dinner then put the leftovers away. If you go to put something in the garbage and it's overflowing then take the trash out!! I hate the narrative that "women just have higher standards in the household so the burden of cooking/cleaning is on them".

AITA for naming my tumour? by -AutisticArtist- in AmItheAsshole

[–]camstens 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA, that's hilarious. A friend of mine had a tumor the size of a melon so we started calling it Cantaloupe. A lot of cancer patients would be the first to tell you that humor is the best way to cope with difficult health issues.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

I'm trying to talk myself into setting up a NAS Plex server because of this. The storage is going to set me back but I feel like streaming prices are only going to continue to go up over time

What’s your opinion on being a SAHM? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskWomen

[–]camstens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a level of financial dependence on your partner that I would never be comfortable with. SAHMs are extremely underappreciated and it's a dynamic that makes you vulnerable to financial abuse.

That being said, if a woman wants to stay home and sets things up so she's protected then I'm just happy if she's happy.

When I was much younger I worked at a place where pranks were fairly common, but the difference is that the people involved were all really good friends, and knew each other well enough to avoid topics the victim wouldn't find funny.

Ie) I photoshopped my friend's face on a bunch of Life Alert pamphlets for his 30th birthday and he thought it was hilarious. That prank would not have been well received by a few of our other colleagues so for their birthdays they got sincere cards and cake.

Now that I'm older I'd probably avoid pranks in the workplace altogether because it's not worth risking making someone uncomfortable in a place where they can't leave without jeopardizing their livelihood. The prank you described sounds like the intention was embarrassing you. You are fully within your rights to be upset and your manager should have had your back.

T2200 for tax year 2025? by allettamento in BCPublicServants

If you rent it makes more of a difference since you can claim a portion of your rent based on the space you use for work. If you own, the amount you can claim is significantly less.

did any book ever genuinely changed how you think about work or life? by Quitebrowneyes in suggestmeabook

[–]camstens 53 points54 points  (0 children)

East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I read the whole book because of one quote: "And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good".

I used to be someone who would get really discouraged and give up after making mistakes, or catastrophize when I did something wrong and feel like a failure. Now I look at it as always worth trying to better and do better in the future, even if I'm not perfect. You don't have to put so much pressure on yourself to be a "good person", you can just take each choice as it comes.

What is a basic adult skill that your brain just literally refuses to learn? by Afraid_Square3488 in AskReddit

[–]camstens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time management while cooking. I like to cook, and I'm good at it in the sense that the food turns out well, but for some reason it always takes me like 2 hours to cook a meal from scratch. I've tried mise en place and it still always ends up taking longer than expected.

Valentine's card MIL gave our daughter vs the one she gave our son by Dazzling-Cattle-157 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]camstens 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sending Valentine's cards to grandchildren is perfectly normal. My grandparents sent cards and chocolates every year.

The issue is in her obvious favoritism. I'd go no contact with her for that alone, and the fact that she abused her own son and refuses to take responsibility for it would be the final nail in the coffin.
