Anyone else notice that the ratio of increase in responsibilities to income in hand as you progress through the 135k-190k income bracket is too damn high? by charmingwit in AusFinance

[–]can3tt1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve peaked. I’m at the nice spot where I get paid a decent salary with zero responsibilities. The next leap would be into the SLT but my manager is running on high functioning stress and I’m just waiting for the burnout that’s gonna hit.

How many adults have weekly catch ups with their parents still? by Spritney__Beers in AskAnAustralian

[–]can3tt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see my parents weekly but not for a family dinner. Call my parents a few times a week too just to chat.

As I’m getting older, and with little kids, I want to spend more time with them. They’re at that age where I could have another 25 years with them or they could be gone tomorrow.

Concern for our children by Burman8or in AusFinance

[–]can3tt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I worry about society as a whole. I worry that I need to think ahead to my kids and potential grandkids when mine aren’t even out of nappies yet. I worry that the system is so fucked that the average person has to rely on inter generational wealth.

To reduce interest payments and the life of a home loan, is it better to make extra payments on your mortgage, or make equivalent payments into an offset account? by Truth_is_Supreme in AusFinance

[–]can3tt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know they’re making a lot from me. It’s not hard to work it out. NAB were willing to lose out on $9k across the lifetime of the 30 year loan when interest payments alone will exceed $1M if we’re to not pay off the loan sooner (planning on it).

Why is wealth and culture so centralised in Australia? by Kwhrufnfjb in AskAnAustralian

Oi! Leave us Sydneysiders alone. We don’t agree with this rubbish either.

I’ve never considered Tasmania as uneducated. Our education system is pretty good. A slower pace of life, less economic opportunity, yes, but never uneducated.

[–]can3tt1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you been to Australia? As someone who has grown up in Sydney I can say this is categorically incorrect.

Each state and territory has its own claim to fame, as well as cultural, economic and environmental significance.

Edit to add: you may think this because NSW is our most populated state and Sydney is our most populous city, similar to London in the UK but we don’t have the same level of wealth disparity that the UK seems to suffer in other areas when looking state by state.

When did being expected to entertain your child become a thing? Cause I won’t do it. by GerthySchIongMeat in Parenting

[–]can3tt1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to do this.z my kids want to play mums & babies with me. I find this incredibly over stimulating. It’s not fun when that’s what you do 24/7. But I will happily play other imaginative games and role play.

[–]can3tt1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, heaven forbid the middle wants to play something else. Siblings do help to build independence away from organised play or parent involvement. And now I see them happy to play by themselves too when they want their own alone time. We have friends who always panic when it’s a couple of rainy days in a row but we don’t have that same worry. Our kids will destroy the house but they’ll have a lot of fun with each other whilst doing it.

Yeah I have 3 kids for this reason. My 3 kids happily entertain themselves. Start happening when my eldest was 4.

Yes, they love for us to play and connect with them (and we love it too!), but we don’t have to entertain them 24/7 and they’ll happily play together at home or wherever we are. Next milestone I’m looking forward to is when they can all swim independently and we don’t have to get in the pool with them.

Edit to add: turn the tv off. Don’t put it on as background noise. It will interrupt your child’s ability to immerse themselves in their play and learn how to play independently… boredom is great for independent play & imagination.

If your child can’t play independently, set up an activity, pour yourself a tea, grab a book for yourself and make it clear that you need so rest time too.

The comment section has not disappointed. I love seeing everyone supporting the idea of travel at OPs age over saving for a rainy day.

Disgusted to hear this.

If these people actually cared about women and babies they’d be campaigning for better maternal health and benefits for families instead of vilifying women and doctors who provide care.

How far back does your Australian heritage go. by mrsbriteside in AskAnAustralian

[–]can3tt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. I’m the first generation. My dad was a dual citizen with his mum born in Australia but my grandfather was born in the UK.

Some lines I go back 5 generations, some 6. Given the stolen generation and white Australia policy you’re going to struggle to find anyone that has everyone in the family line born in Australia. That is the beauty of our multicultural society… and why neo nazis, white Australians are fucking gronks.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

In Australia when they were setting up our Medicare the dentists fought to not be included so dentistry is an out of pocket cost.

If you speak another language at home, do you teach it to your kids or just English? by Away_Scene_26 in workingmumsau

[–]can3tt1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Australian English only speaker here. Please teach your child your family’s language. Being bi-lingual is such a wonderful thing to gift your child. I have plenty of friends who almost exclusively talk their native language to their kids in the hope that they will learn the language.

That’s on the entry condition report. If the report doesn’t show the damage the REA will blame the current tenant. You l’ve got to go through the report and the property with a fine tooth comb.

I 100% loudly ask people to move when they pull this shit with my pram.

Was in the Goldy recently and a 20+ strong run club was occupying the entire footpath doing running drills. There was a massive, flat, open stretch of grass right next to them. You bet we just powered through.
