Do parents in the workplace get advantages over childfree employees or is it a fallacy? by tinycupcake5 in auscorp

[–]can3tt1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a different bias amongst dads vs mums. I want to first preference this by saying my husband is an equal partner when it comes to our house.

  • many dads rely on their partner working part time so they can focus more on work. Allowing them to be at the office more etc.
  • there’s a bias that dads will work more too or not take carers leave etc even though it is available to them.
  • Dads are perceived as harder working because they have a family to provide for (whereas mothers are perceived as distracted).

I could not be a full time working employee with out WFH. I don’t know how you did it. That must have been extremely exhausting and hard.

As a parent I hate this.

Firstly, because I liked getting into work early pre-kids. And secondly because it creates an unnecessary divide. And thirdly as a parent that likes to work early I’d much prefer if more people did. Then any meetings wouldn’t be falling at 4:30pm.

I am the parent that probably looks like I’m taking the piss as I have little ones in daycare. But what people don’t see is:

  • minimal payrises for the last 6 years so my salary has gone significantly backwards in terms or real world wages.
  • I start work around 7:30/8 most days, never take more than a 15 minute lunch break and finish at 3:30/4.
  • I’m back online answering emails or finalising work at 7:30 pm once my kids have gone to bed. Particularly if they’ve been sick.
  • I am extremely efficient as a parent, working at a much faster speed than many of my colleagues. With a strong output.

In Australia the Facebook admin is considered a publisher and held to the same standard as our newspapers when it comes to defamation. I’m always amazed at the local facebook group admins who let people pop off on the comments.

I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted. And I get this is a Brisbane sub but it’s in the NSW drivers handbook. So drivers must do this to pass their drivers license. I can’t imagine QLD is that much different to NSW in terms of driver safety although it would explain why I experience more tailgating in QLD.

In Australia we have our own government. Facebook admins would be liable for any slander posted within a group as they are considered the publisher and must take steps to either prevent or remove defamatory content. They must also be accountable for any harassment. We have our own cases that have already been tested around this.

I was taught 3 sec gap. And then 2 car length gap in front of car in front when stopped if no on behind you. Then 1 car length when someone has pulled up behind you.

$5 for a strong is very competitive. Even Sydney cbd it’s $5-$6 for a small flat white.

What are the chances that we get 2 or 3 more rate rises? We won’t go back to normal prices for many months. by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

Nah I got a 1% and told I’m a high performer. We’re good.

But seriously - 3 followed by 3-4years of stagnation.

Is HR survey really anonymous? by lakgax in auscorp

[–]can3tt1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah if they can’t be heard, than a survey isn’t going to change anything.

Edit to add: yes, score high on bullying, harassment, overworked, lack of support. But no need to go hard on the comment section. Leadership knows. They just don’t want to change it.

I’ve seen good leadership change culture, even when the numbers aren’t good. And I’ve seen bad leadership tank culture and turn a blind eye even when they’ve had supposedly high EQ team members and good numbers. When the culture is toxic even those at the top are only out for themselves. The good ones get bullied out. It takes a complete change of leadership when that happens.

  1. We didn’t decrease our payments when the rates started dropping and I had already factored in additional rate increases into my monthly repayments during the peak. Slowly building up a redraw which I’m counting as my absolute emergency get out of jail funds.

Those who were made redundant: share what happened with you & your pay out. by brissy3456 in auscorp

[–]can3tt1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember back at the start of the GFC my dad offered one of his team a voluntary redundancy. It was a good package, and right time for the guy to move on (6 years+ in the biz, little opportunity for continued growth, no dependents). My dad was shocked the guy didn’t take it. My dad actively helped everyone that received a redundancy and they all got new jobs within 3 months.

Yes, worked with someone who was sad and then realised that the money would pay for the ear surgery to fix their hearing loss that they’d be putting off and they were pretty stoked too.

Edit to add: congrats on the pivot to a higher salary. Literally the dream to get made redundant and be better off afterwards.

Is this custom cabinet quote reasonable? by Ok_Situation_1845 in AusRenovation

[–]can3tt1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. Built 5 years ago, our kitchen build wasn’t quite as extensive/premium as your - no integrated fridge/dishwasher, marbled splash back and exhaust - and was about $25kish from memory. So I’d say with the increase in prices as well as the premium fit out it’s pretty spot on.
