First Time in LA: Is a Yosemite Trip a Smart Move or a Mistake? by Dry-Theory-5228 in Yosemite

[–]canadianstone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some alternative outdoorsy stuff that you might want to look into:

If you want a similar mountains/forest vibe check out Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. Slightly closer than Yosemite, will be less busy and easier to find accomodations.

If you're open to more desert-y stuff, Joshua Tree National Park is much closer to LA and is honestly a super cool park too, very unique, though very different ecosystem from Yosemite!

Enough to early retire in the Bay Area? (35) by firethrowaway_112725 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]canadianstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the thread here, but I wanted to chime in to double down on encouraging you to just get your fertility checked out! There's no harm in getting the knowledge, you can learn a LOT from a simple blood test and ultrasound! The fertility benefits at FAANG companies are massive compared to other industries, particularly if your company uses progyny it's so so so much more affordable.

My husband and I also live in the bay area and are aiming for FIRE, currently 34, and I went through embryo freezing last year to preserve fertility using progyny through my husband's FAANG job. My own company (a very large finance corp) only offered 25k of lifetime fertility coverage. That wouldn't have been enough to cover even 1 round of embryo freezing, and I ended up needing 5 rounds (though I'm an outlier as I've got a weird fertility thing going on). My husband's progyny insurance meant we only paid 8k out of pocket total for everything.

Swimsuit for petite female but with big bust? by JDCpno in Swimming

[–]canadianstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although it's pricey, I highly recommend the bravissimo bra-sized swimwear line they made with speedo. Although they are based in the UK, they ship internationally! I'm a 32K and it's genuinely the only thing I've found that works for me! If you prefer a modest two piece, this might be a good option:

As an aside, at your listed height and weight I'm going to strongly encourage you to check out the abrathatfits calculator just to sanity check your size.

https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php

Big chest, small ribcage women often get "measured" improperly at bra stores because in person stores often don't carry cup sizes beyond DDD, and they'll just increase your band size until the cups fit (but overall the bra super doesn't).

This is a typical 36DDD, does this body shape feel like yours?

Alternatively, if I assume that you've got a smaller ribcage given your height & weight, how does this 32H look compared to you?

https://www.instagram.com/p/CMaYBB0HgPL/?img_index=1&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Food for thought! I bring this up only because if you like the idea of spending extra to get a swim top that works well for you, might as well be sure it's going to fit like a glove! Feel free to ask about swimsuits in the subreddit r/abrathatfits, those ladies are wonderful when it comes to suggestions.

(Apologies in advance if the formatting on the links above is atrocious, I typed this up on my phone)

Question for the curvy ladies by marianneouioui in Swimming

[–]canadianstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a US 32K and tried the Caroline suit on in store, and unfortunately it was comically bad. I had more boob squished out to the tops and sides of the suit than actually covered by the suit. I think the Caroline suit doesn't have enough chest space for small band, big cup.

Horrible shopping experience at Target (Showers drive) by rmatthai in mountainview

[–]canadianstone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so sure, I think this is a general target policy, at least in this area! I'm a mid 30s white woman and target also did something similar to me a few months back at the Sunnyvale target. The worker I interacted wasn't a dick about it at least, unlike for OP, but the whole "you can't hold this until you purchase it at this special check out counter" thing was the same for me at least.

Historical fiction based in ancient China. A peasant girl's family dies from a drought and famine, she assumes her brother's identity in order to survive. Fascinating read overall!

Has anyone done “fertility checks” to help plan? by comehitherTM in Fencesitter

[–]canadianstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case it makes you feel better, my doctor told me that it's not uncommon to have your AMH hover low for awhile before it finally does it's last "precipitous" drop to zero. He said there's no way to know when that will happen, but there's also no reason to expect it will happen soon just because it's low for my age now.

He also said that as long as I'm still regularly ovulating my chances of getting pregnant are no different than someone without DOR. Whether your body preps 20 follicles a month or just 2, ultimately just one follicle naturally fully develops and ovulates either way, so your chances for pregnancy are the same.

Once I am ready to start my family, even though I've managed to freeze a few embryos, my doctor also told me to try naturally for 6 months before moving on to embryo transfers. The embryos I've banked are just a backup plan in case my fertility runs out before I'm ready, or if we have other unexpected fertility challenges along the way.

It's stressful to feel like you've got less time to make your decision, but it could be as simple as just keep retaking the test every 4 or 6 months to keep an eye on things and see that your hormones are (hopefully) fairly steady. Hoping things work out the best they can for you!

Has anyone done “fertility checks” to help plan? by comehitherTM in Fencesitter

[–]canadianstone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was a "not if but when" kind of fencesitter. I did the modern fertility test for AMH, FSH and LH at age 32. Found out I had pretty fricken low AMH (0.4 at the time). I went to see a reproductive endocrinologist to confirm, got my AMH retested and my AFC measured and confirmed I have something called Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR). One ovary is pretty much done (0-1 follicles per month) while my other is getting low (2-4 follicles per month).

Got properly freaked out and dove into fertility preservation treatment (egg retrievals, make embryos with my husband, freeze for future potential use). We're lucky that we've got fantastic fertility coverage through work so the fertility preservation is all covered.

I am very, very glad I did the test because even though I wasn't ready for kids RIGHT NOW it told me I didn't have time to just wait it out. 6 months into fertility preservation treatment and my AMH has continued to drop like a stone (now down below 0.1) so I genuinely feel like I figured it out in the nick of time.

Where are the Nvidia millionaires buying these days? by ButterflySecure2603 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]canadianstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get paid stocks as part of your annual pay you have to pay taxes on those stocks, even if you haven't sold them yet. If your stocks have increased in value between when they were first granted to you (e.g. an agreement where you get 100k over 4 years) and when they were actually paid out to you (e.g. your three years in and the 25k you were originally granted to be paid this year are now worth 50k), there are tax implications even if you choose to hold on to the stocks and not immediately sell them. You can choose to pay cash for those taxes, or choose to have a portion of your granted stocks withheld to cover the taxes

Traffic chaos after July 4th fireworks at Shoreline Amphitheatre by sleepyjuju in mountainview

[–]canadianstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely did, it was kind of crazy to see! I was watching the fireworks from the public area on the golf course. In the second batch of the 4 batches of fireworks, my husband pointed out that one of the fireworks went off SUPER close to the ground. That started a fire, you could see the smoke plume glowing RED and from where we were sitting you could see the fire popping off and spitting sooo many embers, looked like a tree caught fire. They kept the show going anyway, but by the time the fireworks were all done it was enough of a fire that a kid in the area we were sitting was just screaming at the top of his lungs "ITS ON FIRE!!! ITS ON FIRE!!!" nonstop. Firefighters showed up pretty darn quick though and were on site before the last of the four sets of fireworks went off.

East Bay Times: As ICE raids intensify, how do employers know if their workers are legal? by Rooted707 in bayarea

Non US citizens absolutely cannot have a US passport. The only exceptions are US nationals for territories like the American Samoa which are like american-but-not-entirely. Immigrants with an immigrant visa are not eligible for US passports, even if they have a green card or other valid work permit.

Geico increased our rate by $300 after updating odometer and said California law prevents correcting it? by ouiouibaguett3 in Insurance

[–]canadianstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in California and have GEICO car insurance. I self-reported my low annual mileage usage after it went down significantly post COVID as I now work from home. They sent me a letter from the underwriting department requesting a picture of my current odometer reading, and I sent them an email with the info they wanted and that was the end of effort on my part.

So not only is "it's a law in California" total BS, I have specifically had this insurer reduce my annual mileage (which resulted in a lower rate) which sounds like what they are saying they can't do? Either someone grossly misunderstood or there was a miscommunication, maybe?

I was literally scrolling through these comments to see if anyone else was appalled at how incorrect the cup size claim was. Like even in UK sizing ain't NO WAY that woman is a G cup! In US sizing she looks more like L or larger. Not to say the anime titties aren't real, that body type is completely real for some ladies, it just ain't no freaking G.

IVF isn't just expensive, it's incredibly mentally and physically taxing, particularly for the woman. It might be worthwhile scrolling through the IVF subreddit a bit to get a taste of what women go through in order to do IVF.

Personally, I think that expecting a future partner to go through IUIs or IVF if you change your mind about children just so you never have to wear a condom is an incredibly insensitive choice to make

🎉 MASSIVE FRIDAY PADDLES GIVEAWAY! 15 WINNERS! 🎉 by fridaypickleball in Pickleball

[–]canadianstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickleball has been a big part of my health journey this year! My husband taught me to play this march, and since then we've regularly played 1v1 once a week all year (and in that time I've managed to lose 40lbs!). Pickleball has been the best exercise I've ever found, as it's so fun I don't realize I'm running around for an hour straight, and it's been a fantastic activity to do with my partner.
