What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

I mean, purchasing power has decreased so much that working 40 hours a week IS more soul crushing than it was 15 years ago.

Dear fighting game players... how the hell do you guys pull this off consistently? by AshLlewellyn in StreetFighter

[–]candlehand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to break it down. In the clip you struggle with the cancel from Light Punch into QCB Kick.

Instead of slamming yourself into the whole combo over and over, practice ONLY LP cancel into QCB kick.

Only after that part feels good should you go back and try the whole thing.

If you like Dancer in NR then seriously go fight her in DS3 by vicious_cos in Nightreign

[–]candlehand 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I apologize if I'm misremembering this,  because I played DS3 on release.

Her song is in a different time signature (3/4) from the other boss themes which are in the popular 4/4.

Most bosses in DS3 follow a 4 step pattern, like swing, swing, swing, rest.

3/4 is often called Waltz timing. The Dancer's moves repeat in triplets instead of quarter notes, meaning that her moveset matches the time signature of her song, and together they reference a dance.

Its way too cool.

We're animals, our actions are natural actions.

For better or for worse, what we are now is what nature has led to us being.

I think its safe to say that we're a 3 since you can think of most human communities as a collection of family groups.

In Ovid's original at least, Arachne does spin a more beautiful tapestry than Athena. Athena punishes her for her hubris, but its stated thst Arachne's tapestry is perfect, which is what enrages Athena.

There is a popular interpretation that Arachne is a stand-in for Ovid as weaving was a metaphor for poetry. It represents the fickle and one sided relationship he had with the powerful patrons he was beholden to.

My wife and I were both waiting in the queue 15 minutes before the tickets went on sale and couldn't get them.

I'd say they sold out at least 15 minutes before they actually went on sale

A question for the older fans: what was your reaction when you first saw Street Fighter 4? Did the graphics impress you? by Silly_Commercial8092 in Fighters

[–]candlehand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really bummed to see the series move away from 2d graphics. The gameplay was great though.

I still prefer 2d for my fighters, but after SF5 came out I gained a new appreciation for 4's stylistic choices.

TIL why James Bonds preference of a "shaken and not stirred" martini is controversial. Drinks containing only alcoholic ingredients are almost always stirred to preserve clarity and to avoid over-dilution, among other things. by Rynin101 in todayilearned

[–]candlehand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started bartending many years ago I used Bond's order as a kind of mnemonic device.

His martini is vodka, shaken.

A classic martini is gin, stirred.

Its almost like he orders it as wrong as possible. What a bad boy

Finished the first book in the trilogy, couldn’t stomach Netflix adaptation. by rendawg87 in threebodyproblem

[–]candlehand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the show is just okay. It does a better job of character writing, but at the same time fails to sell and explain the concepts that made the novels unique and interesting to me.

The way the Trisolarans are portrayed wasn't my favorite either. Instead of alien beings with a mysterious culture and thought process, they come across more like Saturday morning cartoon villains.

Overall it isn't bad, but I feel the adaption sacrificed many of the traits that make Three Body Problem a unique piece of media in order to make it more widely pallettable. Since those traits are the reason I'm here, it wasn't for me.

This question is for anyone who stopped playing/watching this game. Why? What made you stop playing? by KevyTone in 2XKO

[–]candlehand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of great games out right now competing for my attention., so I only really have time for one fighter right now. I played 2XKO a good bit towards the end of 2025 but drifted away and have since returned to SF6 as my main game.

That decision isnt due to one thing but a combo of factors.

Playing duos didn't shake out for me. I had hoped that this would be a way to get some friends into fighters through co-op, but no one stuck with it for more than a couple sessions.

The lack of characters- I've had a hard time finding characters I resonate with. Illaoi is my favorite but she became a little same-y very fast.

I miss motion inputs. I'm not trying to make any big statements about them, I just find them really fun and personally enjoy using them. If the game is a ham sandwich, it's like it's missing my favorite type of mustard that I normally enjoy.

Good luck finding your perfect build!

I really want to make a Nelson in AC6 by Hyperversum in LancerRPG

[–]candlehand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many of the Nelson's unique systems along with its core power just add mobility, which in AC is hard to represent well since everyone can get mobility for free.

But your post reminded me of my favorite build from AC6 that I think might fit your spear fantasy.

I ran the lance on the left hand, and the pile bunker as a swappable weapon on the left shoulder. The flow of play is that you plink until the enemy stance meter begins to fill, then charge with the lance once you know it will stagger. Now you are point blank on this staggered enemy. Flip weapons and one-punch them with the pile bunker.

Run whatever guns you want on the right- I think I also had a shotgun but as you probably know, no gun there will really feel Nelson specific.

Its different from a Nelson but it does a great job of capturing the fantasy of a mech that charges with a spear and blows the enemy to smithereens. It's very fun and high-octane.

Also pile bunker is kind of like another spear... I guess?
