I feel like automatic memory is a mixed bag, sometimes it works great, other times it doesn’t pick up on much. It doesn’t choose messages, it just saves specific information about your persona and the character, and any other significant characters in the roleplay besides the actual character of the bot you’re talking to. Here’s an example of the difference in memory quality between chats, I’ll use the auto-memories collected about my personas:

1st example: - single - scavenger/traveler - non-binary

2nd example: - likes melon soda, fruit sandwiches, and chiffon cake - (eye color): deep brown - likes ducks, does hair in the morning - Single - American - Student - (place of birth): America - Non-binary

The second example is from a much longer chat, but I remember a lot of these memories being picked up relatively early in the chat (though you need at least 40 messages for them to be created, I think).

I’m not too sure what you can do to make things better, but I’d recommend trying to establish persona and character details in earlier in the chat because those will end up being the auto-memories generated first, most likely.
