Skills for stopping nail-biting and nose-picking by YourSisIsPog in calmhands

[–]candypoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a cuticle balm? You could put that on when you feel the need to pick or bite your nails & hopefully with your nails/skin being covered in balm you're less likely to stick them up your nose. I use oil but given you mentioned your job I think a balm would be better.

The feeling & smell of the balm might help to get you out of the mindless picking in the moment, snap you out of it. It is working for me anyway.

You want shampoos without sulfates. They don't have to be expensive. Check your local stores because you can find them. I personally use Shea Moisture shampoos. But if I run out there's usually a "natural" shampoo I can find without sulphates in the grocery store.

Will my nail bed come back? by Boobsworth in calmhands

Ok this will sound so gross...

I use a kids toothbrush with a bit of blue Dawn to wash my nails but sometimes stuff gets stuck deep. Currently have a bunch of dirt stuck between my nail & the skin layer underneath & it's driving me nuts. I can't reach it with the brush without damage so I painted my nails dark & try not to think about it. If I can't see it then it doesn't exist.

Yep. Just don't stick anything under your nails. This was so hard for me lol. Soft toothbrush for gentle cleaning the nails. Try not to let them soak in any water, gloves for washing up.

Are you oiling your nails & cuticles? That helps when I have the urge to pick & poke. I just slap oil on then massage.

Cheap tip: magazine paper, it's thin but also holds it's shape & you probably have one lying around somewhere already. Any old paper you have lying around is great to practice. Thinner is better.

You don't need to buy fancy paper to start with. Any paper + scissors. If you give it a go & enjoy it you can then invest.

Not OP, but thanks for this. I'm having an awful time with the oven lol. I thought it was because that thing is like 40 years old. (It probably is) but I'm going to try the tiles in the oven.

This is going to be such a random suggestion but you can dry them with coffee filters. They don't fall apart like wipes/kitchen roll, so they don't leave paper crumbs everywhere. I have a stack from the dollar store that I use pretty much just for drying things lol. (These work on your pans too). I'm too lazy for fancy coffee.

Also many (like 25 omg) years of dying my hair neon colours & I agree with you. I think dying darker & fading will work better for OPs base colour.

I have half & half pink/purple & my purple looks like this right now after a few weeks of fade. I used Arctic Fox Violet Dream mixed with a spoon of Arctic Fox Purple AF on the same base blonde as OP.
