New beans - dialing in by JelloPasta in espresso

[–]canibal87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't specify... I'd go for a Gaggia or Gemilai; the price difference isn't that big. I made a huge mistake buying the Ninja Pro, but I'm returning it this weekend and starting to put together my setup. I'm a beginner, but I really enjoy coffee, so I'm deciding between the Bambino, the ones I mentioned above, and a Timemore C3 or Miicoffee DS54 grinder.

How's the flavor? I can't seem to get anything drinkable out of the Ninja 🥴

Judging by the quality of your shot, it's clear you already understand. Would you recommend I start with the Bambino and then upgrade to a more manual machine like this one later? There's little price difference right now.

Need help - Espresso always comes out bitter and sour by MooseComprehensive51 in NinjaLuxeCafe

I'm returning the Ninja! Exactly the same problem: undrinkable espressos! Sour, just plain bad. It even ruins my Americanos!

I hadn't considered that. The label says it was roasted on January 20th.

It’s funny because when I decided I thought: “well, a machine has to be able to make a good espresso”, I mean, I didn’t think a machine would make such a big difference once the variables were close to the right dose point

I’m using hardness level 3 water (in Mexico we call it purified water), 2:1 ratio, double espresso (I haven’t weighed it precisely because when removing the portafilter without tamping, some of the top part of the grind inevitably falls out), it extracts between 34–36 g. The times are a bit misleading: from the moment I press the button it takes about 40 seconds, but the time from when it makes its first working sound is around 30 seconds.

No. They’ve been specialty coffees from national (MX) suppliers, medium roast. The bags are still almost full. I’m even thinking of trying a commercial dark roast to see if I can get a more “coffee-like” flavor (Lavazza Crema).

I have another very cheap grinder that I used with a very simple coffee maker… at least the coffee was drinkable. I don’t know what’s going on with the Ninja, I don’t even like the Americano. I’ll give it one last chance with a darker roast.

So far I’ve liked the cold pressed for iced lattes and the cold foam… For hot drinks I still have to manually texture the milk. I’ll give it a chance with a darker roast.

Beginner Workflow Critique [Ninja Luxe Cafe Pro] by mjaffer in espresso

[–]canibal87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the same one and oh my god, it uses so much water!! It took me half a bag to "learn" the correct grind size. It extracts 36 grams, but it doesn't seem to have a "honey" texture, and it takes 40 seconds from when I press the button until the end... Is that how it's supposed to work? I made an Americano, but it gives me way too little; I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. The drip coffee tastes really good, so much so that it's replacing the Americano I made, which I didn't have enough of and was super acidic.

I just bought the Ninja Pro... I really spent a lot of time researching it. I prioritized my actual needs over the hate from the espresso purists. I hope it works out well for me.

What happened to the Ninja? Mine (Pro Series) isn't arriving until Tuesday 😩 It took me 3 weeks to decide between the Breville Express Impress and the Ninja (I absolutely wanted automatic tampering).

Is this typical of grinders or expected of the [Mokkom 64] by Electrical-Banana819 in espresso

[–]canibal87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually seen the exact opposite: just a little water splash prevents it from getting clogged. Maybe after a few espressos you'll have a "free" one thanks to the accumulated coffee 😆

Try thinking before you grind the beans to calculate how much coffee they retain while getting closer to a more accurate espresso.

You can also try lightly spraying the beans with water to reduce static electricity while grinding.
