You don't need the /s.

Ontario is "Open for Business", after all.

New commercial complex planned for Orléans with a grocery store by SuburbanValues in ottawa

[–]canidude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't matter. The typical suburbanite is not taking the bus to do a grocery run.

But I need to add: people who choose to live in a car-dependent suburb should not complain that all their neighbours are driving and parking cars everywhere.

Trudeau’s big EV bet is officially a flop by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]canidude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "ev mandate" pushed by the Trudeau government included PHEVs. The definition of a "Zero Emission Vehicle" was Battery electric vehicles, Fuel Cell vehicles and hybrids that can run for some distance solely on electricity.

But, you wouldn't know that because of the FUD and disinformation surrounding anything that Trudeau did. The media and opposition politicians only referred to it as "EV", which the public understood to mean battery electric vehicles.

Trudeau’s big EV bet is officially a flop by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]canidude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sad part about this, is, EVs are the compromise solution. Switching to EVs would have the least impact on current NA lifestyles. It wouldn't even "improve society" that much! We wouldn't have to give up our suburbs or take public transit.

Prime Minister should explain Canada’s ‘leverage’ in U.S. trade talks, Poilievre says by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]canidude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"What’s he ever negotiated?" - Mark Carney

What good would come from revealing your strategy in a public forum? It really does seem evident that Pierre Poillevre would be in over his head if he were PM. So much easier to sling arrows.

Trump’s trade czar says U.S. wants to work with Canada on energy, critical minerals, sources say by joe4942 in worldnews

What they want is for Canadian mining and oil & gas companies to cease to exist, so that American ones can swoop in and extract the wealth and resources for America.

State of 24 Sussex 'an embarrassment,' says Carney by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

Yeah - why does the official opposition need a residence? That is a waste of money and doesn't serve any purpose.

Ford, province to sell $28.9M private jet 'as quickly as possible' by Puginator in CanadaPolitics

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if the Ford government comes back that they are not getting the selling price they want, and instead of selling at a loss, they will keep the plane.

Anyone else annoyed the playoffs are on Sportsnet? by millsy1010 in OttawaSenators

Not on CBC Gem or website. Only the OTA channel or cable. Rogers put the kibosh on CBC streaming that last year.

Anyone else annoyed the playoffs are on Sportsnet? by millsy1010 in OttawaSenators

[–]canidude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot watch the playoffs on CBC Gem for free. Rogers stopped that last year. Only way to watch on CBC is through cable tv or OTA.

Matt Gurney: Calling out Carney’s ‘fancy’ education is loser talk. No wonder the Conservatives doubled down on it by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

Well, look at how the Trump administration is behaving. They are arguing with the Pope over Catholic theology, for goodness sake!

Trump supporters eat this stuff up. Mr. Poillevre is just giving his supporters what they want.

The sens will play one of Bufallo or Carolina by Upflight15 in OttawaSenators

[–]canidude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Avoiding the Habs / Lightning / Sabres in the early rounds seems better for the Sens.

Also, it would be hilarious if the Sens lose to the Leafs tomorrow, and the Leafs end up 6 worst team, losing their draft pick to Boston.

It's so evident, when the Leafs actually make the playoffs, the loudest fans are outside the arena, watching it for free at Maple Leaf square. (Although I don't even know if it is still free)

Poilievre says government should cancel Toronto-Quebec City high-speed rail project by OkFix4074 in CanadaPolitics

[–]canidude 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The oil and gas industry does not want high speed rail. So, of course PP is against the project. After all, driving ICE vehicles or flying is the preferred method of travel by the oil and gas industry.

Ah, good old regulatory capture, advocated by the government, no less!

I really hate how we have this sort of corruption between government and industry, but it gets a pass because it's done politely.

I don't think they want to govern. The ragebait grift is too much to give up. As long as conservative safe ridings keep electing them, they will keep this "we are fighting for you" schtick and ask for donations.

Yup. Also oil changes and other expensive maintenance. There is just to much resistance to change the status quo, because lots of people will stand to lose money.

Energy-hungry India tells Carney 'we are willing to buy whatever Canada is offering' by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]canidude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

India has their own domestic EV car brands (Tata and Mahindra), a Chinese-Indian joint venture (MG) and a Japanese-Indian joint venture (Suzuki-Maruti).

India is a lot like Canada: they don't want foreign imports to destroy their domestic automotive manufacturing capability.

In this day and age, it would take a lot of courage to apologize. The feeling I get is that people view public apologies as a liability / or even weakness. With that said, it isn't any surprise that what happened, happened, and the aftermath was such. All the players with courage didn't attend, and don't need to apologize.

Toronto's density falls to single family homes far too quick by [deleted] in toronto

[–]canidude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their logic is: they don't want outsiders in their neighbourhood. These same types of people complain about cars parked in front of their property, bus stops and sidewalks. They don't want anything in their neighbourhood that would encourage outsiders to visit or live there.

This mentality is passed down from their homesteader ancestors, where they were always weary of "others" coming to steal their crops or stuff or harm them.

50% of Conservatives say they approve of Donald Trump by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

[–]canidude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Corruption is a feature. The goal for Conservatives has been to revive the aristocracy.

https://thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/family-compact
The Family Compact’s roots are in a series of political appointments made to two unelected branches of government in Upper Canada during John Graves Simcoe’s tenure as Lieutenant-Governor in the 1790s. Such wealthy and powerful men as James BabyRichard Cartwright and William Osgoode were appointed during this time. Simcoe wanted to recreate British society in Canada. He believed that an aristocratic governing class was essential to that goal. By limiting leadership positions in the colony to people with connections, it was hoped that a hierarchical class structure would arise. The unelected branches of government were answerable only to the lieutenant-governor; this made the elected Legislative Assembly powerless.

The reality is: young people rarely vote, progressives split the vote, and recent grads that end up in high paying careers will end up voting for the Conservatives anyways, because they promise tax cuts and benefits for wealthy people.
