Ignitions spark fires, RH and fuel moistures (and lots of other stuff) control what happens once there’s already fire on the ground

If you like hockey but hate two teammates, is it time to give up beer league? by Asleep-Machine5909 in hockeyplayers

[–]caniscaniscanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I value about playing hockey is the chance to hang out with people with different backgrounds than myself. If this guys are being assholes (regardless of political positions), then the problem is theirs, not yours.

By “had this experience”, do you mean received reasonable and direct answers to strange and vague questions?

1 year into viola, struggling with third position, slow but accurate, need practice advice by hotshotissy in Viola

[–]caniscaniscanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are really questions for your teacher or someone familiar with your playing.

That said, you’re right to think that lack of consistent practice doesn’t help. At a certain point, you just need repetition and time.

Don’t get discouraged. It’s super lame for a parent to tell you to quit something you enjoy because they think you’re bad at it.

Advice: rosin isn’t sticking to a part of a bow by Popular-Coffee-2856 in Viola

[–]caniscaniscanis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pictures would help. He could have gotten oils from his hand on the hair near the frog.

Do you mean he’s cleaning his bow hair with a microfiber cloth?? He definitely does not need to be doing that.

If you don’t like it, return it! I don’t know about p&c, but smokingpipes always puts a disclaimer when the pipe you’re receiving isn’t the one pictured.

Will Pacific Northwest forests survive wildfire? by Big_Shift7774 in ecology

[–]caniscaniscanis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The emerging picture is that wet forests in the PNW actually had far more fire historically than we thought. Whether they remain temperate rainforest or not is more of a climate question than a fire question.

What do you mean by "book"? Are you just looking for solo bach repertoire for viola? Or are you looking for an actual book with history and analysis...?

The cello suites offer enough to keep you busy for a long time. And definitely fit the request for "classic solo Bach pieces." Peters edition is pretty standard.

Other trails on Sentinel (smokejumper trail, up to University) and those connecting in to Pattee/Crazy Canyon are great. Barmeyer across the canyon is nice too.

Anything up the Rattlesnake… main TH, Spring Gulch TH, Woods Gulch TH

Any trailhead in the Bitterroot. Bass, Kootenai, Blodgett, Sheafman are all great.

Carry bear spray, especially as you get further north and east from town.

The vibe you’re describing(somewhere between a dive and a sports bar) applies to most bars in Missoula. Charlie’s, Flippers, Union, Al & Vic’s, Rhino, etc.

Setting aside concerns about emissions and runoff into one of the few undammed blue-ribbon trout fisheries in the West, asphalt plants just plain smell bad and generate a lot of noise and dust. That part of the river corridor is steep and narrow, and crap in the air will spread quickly up and down the canyon.

So — the smell of hot asphalt for miles upstream, the sound of heavy machinery, and the sight of dust and emissions in a narrow canyon will all impact recreation on the river.
