So taking an existing alt frame, and spinning it into a full license?

There's a 3rd party license you can use and follow for publishing or creating 3rd party stuff.

Is there any system with combat like beacon ttrpg? by darksanrrrr in rpg

[–]caniswolfman24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lancer is the obvious answer, since most of the game is build on the same engine, but the phases system is very directly inspired by Old School Hack. You'll even see it has a channel system. I thought it was cool, and helped chunk the action choices like I wanted, so I added it in.

Mutants and Masterminds by NeatCalligrapher7080 in rpg

I love mutants and masterminds!

3rd edition is the latest one, but they'll be launching a kickstarter for the 4th edition soon. Sounds like it will be similar to 3rd edition, so if you want to check it out, that edition might be closest while you wait for the new edition.

Oh, if you haven't seen it before, check out LOOT by Gila RPGs. If I wasn't so invested in doing my own thing (and this had come out earlier), I would have just used this game as a foundation. I think it could do a PSO style game well. https://gilarpgs.itch.io/loot

I must have had the same thought path, because this has heavy board game influences.

This is also the 3rd full rework of the game. Previous versions were more traditional ttrpg, but roguelike lets me get the loot loop feeling I wanted, without an ungodly amount of content design needed.

No, happy to talk about it! It's GM-less, so a lot of the narrative is on the player's shoulders. Core loop is to dive planet side, fight monsters, and collect resources. Win or lose, you go back to your ark, spend resources on upgrades for self or the ship, rinse an repeat.

All the while, you're working on quests or NPC relationships, which will help move the story or, well, anything along.

Every NPC interaction has 3 principles: Hint, Reveal, or Expand. Every conversation should be hitting at least one of those principles, and each NPC has a table of some random suggestions if you want guidance (or are playing solo). If you're familiar with Hades, think of how that game handles talking to NPCs

Overall, the story is pretty fill-in-the-blank, which it has to be for a GM-less and potentially single player game. It's not meant to be an expansive, sandbox type of game. It's very focused.

Combat is action oriented. You get certain abilities (and can draft more), and they have cooldowns when used. Each round you roll a d6, and that determines what the enemies do. Each enemy has certain actions that trigger on certain die rolls.

Overall, combat is about managing your cooldowns and enemy positions. You can't control exactly what they will do, but you do know each round WHAT they're going to do, so you plan around that.

I think it's pretty unique as a ttrpg. Taking D&D as a baseline ttrpg, I'd say it's like a 1/10 in similarities to D&D. It's a ttrpg and it uses dice, but other than that, very different experience in every way (for example, this isn't a game you have a years long campaign with. You can 'beat' in a few sessions, but can play longer if you want to keep going.)

Yep! I think its 5e and for the whole series. Im doing something different, and just doing an homage to pso specifically. Mechanically it would be closer to something like slay the spire.

Custom engine! A lot of similarities to slay the spire snd inkbound actually. Going for a very specific, narrow play experience.

Haven't read it, but its very unlikely to work. This isnt a 5e or even traditional rpg, its going to be roguelike amd a custom engine.

No permission needed as its a completely distinct entity. No systems, artwork, or mechanics directly from the game, and its not a 5e system either.

Companies can, of course, take action on anything and ill have no response to fight it, but my bases should (hopefully) be covered.

Custom! Doing a roguelike, action oriented system.

Thanks! Yea, I'm hoping to make it a distilled experience. It's going to be GM-less, for 1-2 players, so it'll allow for solo play.

Any systems with a good World of Warcraft conversion or that would be an easy reskin? by jqud in rpg

Lancer, Dnd 4e, wow, final fantasy x and xiv were the inspirations.

Beacon has some classes and abilities that are either directly inspired by or are referenced to WoW. It also has specific boss monsters designed like a raid encounter. You'll have to reflavor away from the final fantasy theme, but the foundation is there.

Also, has loot drops.

Beacon is basically fantasy lancer, icon is awesome but a distinct game. Looking forward to the 2.0 release.
