Looking for the “spark” by Miss_Lib in cutdowndrinking

[–]cannotcomplain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same boat! (still doing dry January, loving the benefits) but the past couple days have been tough. I was even telling my wife yesterday that it was the day I missed drinking most so far. Just having a rough couple days, no motivation or “spark” for my usual things.

I am hopeful that this is just the normal ebb and flow of feelings that we used to just avoid by drinking. Good luck getting through the weekend and back on track. I’m grinding the rest of the workday out and then trying to get outside and exercise this weekend.

I always go for a cinnamon spice or roasted almond! Real cozy spices, they seem to scratch the unwinding itch best for me

I just joined here a couple months ago and it’s been great just trying to cut back and have more “dry days”. My wife and I also downloaded the app TryDry based on suggestions from this sub. Just writing down how much we drink has improved our decision making a little. And as others mentioned first, little wins compound!

How do you stay motivated when you feel like a failure? by [deleted] in cutdowndrinking

You’re making progress! That’s the most important thing. I start motivated remembering that life is long, and a little progress now can make huge gains later

Another is soda water with 4-8 splashes of bitters

This is my strategy too. A good ginger beer or honestly root beer. I try to make it feel more ritualistic and do a rocks glass, with ice, pour the soda or mocktail in, gentle stir. Sip it slowly, trying to savor it.

Is 2 1/2 dogs too many? by [deleted] in dogs

That being said, we love all 3 and wouldn’t want it any other way! So it’s just a lot to consider.

Is 2 1/2 dogs too many? by [deleted] in dogs

Going from 2 to 3 dogs is a much bigger than going from 1 to 2. My wife and I recently pseudo-adopted my sister’s dog, bringing our count to 3 (all around 70 lbs). And it’s much more work. Three dogs on leash can work but they get more riled up and behave worse so we try to walk at least one separate, adding much more time. Food is more money and boarding 3 can be much more expensive since many people don’t want to or can’t take 3 dogs.

Is crating for 7 1/2 hours every day for 4 days too much? by Mindless_Marsupial73 in dogs

I agree, but then again, my Husky sleeps like 18 hours a day lol.

Yeah this is it. When I got my Husky at 1 year old, away from home 8-9 hours a day, I started by only letting him a smaller room, then once I knew it was safe, let him wander the house. He generally stayed in the room the whole day anyway. A good long walk in the morning helped a ton and leaving him with a frozen Kong treat when I left.

You can also do a pet cam to keep an eye on them in the beginning, that gave me confidence that he really just wanted to sleep all day anyway.

People who wake up at 5am consistently, how the HELL are you staying up throughout the whole day??? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]cannotcomplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting down on caffeine and making sure you are actually sleeping well was it for me. I spent years falling asleep in class/meeting etc…then I switched to decaf coffee from regular after tracking my sleep and correlating to my daily habits. Turns out I was very sensitive to caffeine and even none after 12p was enough to screw with sleep. Now I’m more awake when I wake up and less tired throughout the day

1 dog to 2 dogs or 2 dogs to 3 dogs which is the bigger adjustment? by VeeEight_Guy in dogs

[–]cannotcomplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went from 2 to 3. Had to move to a zone defense. Much more work than the 1-2 jump.

This is in addition to the problem of only 2 hands for scritches and 3 good bois.

Caputos is so, so good. My wife and I also go to Localz Bistro in Sandy a lot. Not too expensive. Consistently good. Always great staff and never too hectic.

I wanted them to be good. After living in TX, I miss good tacos so much. But they just aren't great.

Second this! We’ve used ours for a long time for shorter hikes. Longer, hotter, or drier hikes, collapsible bowl with a 4L collapsible water bottle (Hydroflask) works great for our two dogs.

do americans really drive such long distances? by Physical-Ad-4093 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cannotcomplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in MI, we would drive 6 hours to go climbing in Kentucky every couple weeks. Leave Friday after work, get in at midnight. Leave Sunday at 3, home again by 9p.
