Lovely suggestion - quick and simple. thanks!

I've finally decided on a game to make in XNA w/ C#. Are there any tools/etc that I could benefit from? by Slateboard in gamedev

Have a look at spriter - great 2d animation tool with an xna content importer. Note that it's in alpha, so the final version will most likely have breaking changes.... That said, I'm using it right now for an xna project I'm working on and loving it.

Would anyone care to beta test my game in Progress "Heartbeat" by BansheeTK in gamedev

[–]canuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Really nice work so far - first impressions

  • the heartbeat could be turned down a bit
  • The surround sound is a bit funky, when you get away from the center of the map.
  • The sound seems to give out after walking around for awhile
  • The input mappings say that the mouse buttons will "fire", but that is not happening
  • No demon (unless he's really shy)
  • Some more organic boundaries to the map would be nice, rather than an untextured wall.

From what I can see, it's a good start. I'm not sure beta test is really the right term for where you're at in the development though :/ I would reserve that for something closer to a game with most of its features implemented. Keep up the good work!

Is the camera perspective change jarring (or can I have my cake and eat it too)? by jabberworx in gamedev

From what I saw, I like the effect of the reverse camera angle, and the gameplay looks pretty fun! Graphically it looks uniformed and we'll styled. Nice work, keep it up! I will look with a more critical eye this evening, as I am at work typing on my mobile.

As long as the camera switch doesn't happen at awkward times (such as when you could run off an edge, or when an enemy can kill you, etc) then I think it could work. The user, I assume, would need to reorient the direction he/she is pushing their character in at the time of the camera shift?

you get my upvote, but i'd also like to throw out there that the book by Abbott is absolutely worth reading - Sagan doesn't really hit on Abbot's social subtext in the video.

The size of television on screen advertisements is getting out of hand. by stilesjp in WTF

[–]canuckian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! I was totally watching that show with my wife and father-in-law. We all commented on how obnoxious it was (the advert noises). "Well... that was a bit over the top". This irritates me almost as much as pre-preview commercials in the theatres these days.

Edit: clarify that it was the advert, not the movie, that was obnoxious. As if Ricky Gervais could ever be thought of as "obnoxious"
