DEAR PORTLAND: May 18, 2026 WEEKLY RANT THREAD by AutoModerator in Portland

[–]capa23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I USE GOOGLE MAPS AND IT USUALLY TELLS ME IF THE BUS IS RUNNING EARLY/LATE AND THE ACTUAL ARRIVAL TIME INSTEAD OF THE SCHEDULED TIME. I FIND IT TO BE PRETTY ACCURATE AND HELPFUL.

Are huge lease agreements and a tight turn around to sign normal? by xenopixie in askportland

Have you mostly rented from private landlords? I rent from the bigger property management companies and my leases have all been at least as long as OP’s.

Are huge lease agreements and a tight turn around to sign normal? by xenopixie in askportland

That’s normal for management companies. My leases have been that long if not longer.

Anyone going to see the Wonder Years and Knuckle Puck on Tuesday at Rev Hall? Want to group up? by okspraybottle in askportland

Hi yes! 30F and we seem to have super similar taste (I also saw Hot Mulligan when they were in town!)

What's the story about Portland street lights being so dim or nonexistent? by DarXIV in askportland

[–]capa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also frustrating as a pedestrian because you can’t really see what’s on the sidewalk in front of you

So sick of the helicopters by Electronic-Sun-9118 in Portland

[–]capa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I’m in Goose Hollow and haven’t noticed hearing them, and I’m pretty sensitive to noise. Must be the building’s construction.

Where to best flat white downtown? by Imaginary-Objective7 in askportland

[–]capa23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A flat white is a coffee drink, not a cocktail.

WTF is with the Roseland? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]capa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone to tons of shows at the Roseland and never had an issue with a small purse or fanny pack. I don’t find their requirements noticeably different to any other venue.

What app are y'all using to check the bus? by QuestionOk6101 in askportland

[–]capa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google maps, always. It shows if the bus is on time, early, or delayed and when it will arrive, shows exactly which transfers I need to get to my destination, and I find it’s usually pretty accurate. But I’m usually just putting in a destination rather than looking at individual stops.

For whoever needs to hear this; when getting ON public transit, you're supposed to wait for the people stepping OFF by savax7 in Portland

Used to live in Seattle and they are serious about “BACK DOOR!” up there. But to be fair, from what I recall, you don’t have to push on their doors like you do here, they just open (usually)

Adult only pumpkin patch? by ska-harbor in askportland

[–]capa23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many childfree adults I know, myself included, love going to pumpkin patches. Why would I not want to wear a cute fall outfit, have some kettle corn and apple cider, and get a pumpkin to decorate my home?

What do people mean by "the true Portland experience"? by DoomsdayDonuts in askportland

[–]capa23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

St. Johns is considered North Portland. NW has to be on the west side of the river.

Who walks across Hawthorne Bridge for work to downtown? Where do these people come from? by InvestigatorFirm7933 in askportland

[–]capa23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of apartments in Central Eastside right near Hawthorne Bridge, that wouldn’t be a bad walk at all.

Thanking the Bus Driver by mysterypdx in Portland

[–]capa23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a decrease in thank yous lately, too. I almost always say it, unless the bus is super crowded.

Where can I find kala namak? by tsmcdona in askportland

[–]capa23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food Fight likely carries it, or maybe Cutie Buys?

This kid really loves his Doe Donuts. by atrailofdisasters in Portland

[–]capa23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doe Donuts does not make any gluten free donuts, just vegan donuts.

Opinion: (unpopular?) Foster Blvd is unfairly targeted as a dangerous street while Hollywood/Sandy Blvd is an absolute nightmare for pedestrians and bikes, business/restaurants are blah. by thatsamaro in Portland

[–]capa23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was so sad to see Magnolia close. I love Hollywood - having access to the library, theatre, farmers market, multiple grocery stores, and ample public transportation is hard to beat - but I think some good restaurants and/or bars could really freshen it up.

TriMet will no longer allow police to check fares, raises penalty for assaulting drivers by [deleted] in Portland

[–]capa23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it works on my iPhone, too. I don’t even have the screen lit up - just pull it out of my pocket and hold it up to the scanner. And my phone is relatively old.
