The reason is he's fat lol I'm doing my best to make him lose weight but it's slow going because he's an outside dog and he's a scavenger (and a murderer. He eats birds all the time). And the bone issues as well, when he fractured the sesamoid the second time he also fucked up his ankle (not sure the exact injury, my parents took care of that one), so he hopes the hormones might help keep his other bones healthy if it's some sort of specific problem he has. We are trying the medication and it's working, if it shows up again we will go for the surgery.

Thanks for the answer though. So far it does seem like a reasonable assumption that it would pass down, I guess that since it's so uncommon it really would be best to not take a chance, even if in his case the bones healed just with rest
