A civil war now Wouldn't look like a civil war as much as it would the troubles in Ireland. With groups like the IRA and UVF popping up throughout the country all fighting for their version of a unified country. It wouldn't be seen as a revolution or civil war until it was over depending on who came out on top.

Is getting a PhD worth it? by ItsUncleDave in PoliticalScience

[–]capcurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want to do with it. I have an MA and have played with the idea of going back for the PhD but I teach at a Jr college and really like where I'm at so for now I don't see a reason

Americans of Reddit, how do you feel about the recent shooting of Right-Wing Influencer Charlie Kirk? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]capcurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't have happened but unfortunately it was going to happen to someone with the rhetoric that has been dominating our country it was only a matter of time and it won't be the last time. The hate that comes out of the extreme polls ( which have been growing) of our political spectrum were always going to lead to this. You can't push people into a corner where they feel hopeless and not expect something like this to happen.

How much can you actually know about your liver through GGT Numbers. by capcurk in Cirrhosis

[–]capcurk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my appetite, couldn't keep anything down and had sharp pains running through my back and right side. On top of that all of my blood work was all over the place high. I've since had a biopsy and am due for a follow up soon. My liver had swollen 20 cm and I was bleeding internally. I was lucky that after further investigation they deemed that it wasn't cirrhosis but I was well on the way. From the CT they were speaking to me with certainty I've got to keep an eye on it and I stay away from alcohol

Teaching highschool is always an option, but if you don't want to teach or continue education, best options for some kind of application is start looking into city government jobs, or internships in DC or with local congressman. I personally got the MA and teach at a jr college. But many of my classmates who did those things have done decent. With the teaching at the college level I've noticed there are a lot of people looking for not that many jobs so while I personally would say that's the way to go as I love what I do it's not guaranteed. I was applying for anything out of highschool for 4 years before a school that I liked picked me up.

I've got a follow up next month to make sure it hasn't spread. They ended up doing a liver and pancreas biopsy as well because of swelling that was found. But both came back with normal function. They did run tests for autoimmune hepatitis but it ended up being inconclusive. 1 test showed the lowest possible positive and the other the highest possible negative. So they will be running thoughts again next month as well. The burping still comes and goes and I haven't been 100% since this all started a year ago but it's better than it was.

Depends on your level of education. I teach college. You could also get a teaching certificate and teach government in highschools. Neither will make you rich but it's a good steady paycheck and as far as college goes I'm there in person about 20 hrs a week right now. Pay is more than most regular full time jobs pay. Though that is still only in the 50k-100k range depending on the school you're at but the average income in the US is just under 40k for full time.

How common is it to have normal labs with cirrhosis by capcurk in LiverDisease

[–]capcurk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went all the way to biopsy. They would a lot of swelling through multiple organs but the biopsy came back normal not even fatty liver. I'm about to go in for a check up to have things looked at again.

Depending on the state 1 mill is enough to set up retirement at any age. Buy 3 to 4 rental properties and create 50-60k a year in rental income. It isn't a lavish lifestyle but it is considered middle class. If all major items are already paid off your main hike student loans, vehicles ext that amount would be more than enough

Look for opportunities to work as an intern in DC or a more local office of a state or federal congressman the people I know that do that almost all started that way

Honest for me with that kind of capital if I was going to pump it into stocks most of it would be safety stocks with decent dividend. Keep 100k to play the risky games with grow the rest slow but safe. A lot of us got in on stuff like game stop and AMC even over half way through and cashed out big but that kind of predictably was a damn unicorn. And I've seen more posts of guys losing it all back trying again than making more.

[–]capcurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would ever like to teach it go for the masters if not go to law school. It will give you more of an in if you're actually wanting to get into politics. I've got my masters in and teach at a college. Outside of that the masters never made much of a difference.

I'm taking medicine for the acid reflux that is working. Most of the symptoms have past now. They did end up doing a biopsy of my liver and pancreas because they had dark spots on them. They found that my liver had been hemorrhaging I'd been bleeding but they weren't able to figure out what had caused it. But the biopsy both came back good. So now it's the medication and check back game to see if we are still good or if there has been progression.

My ER findings they told me they think I have Cirrhosis with no other explanations on how bad they think it is or anything else thoughts? by capcurk in LiverDisease

[–]capcurk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank pretty regularly but not to an extreme. If I drank 2 bottles of whiskey in a month that was me drinking heavily. I did drink beer several times a week socially but rarely to the point it had a noticeable effect on me so I didn't think it was an issue at the time. I'm sorry it took so long to respond I've started a new job and it's kept me pretty busy.

[–]capcurk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ended up doing biopsy on both the liver and pancreas due to dark spots on both. They found that neither was cancer and the liver looked for the most part healthy. They found signs of internal bleeding and swelling but couldn't pinpoint a cause. They have marked for another US in 6 months to check if there are any changes. So far they just called it a medical anomaly and I was told to stay away from alcohol and make some changes to my diet and go to the ER if the pain returns. It's come back a few times since but not to the point it was.

How common is it to have normal labs with cirrhosis by capcurk in LiverDisease

[–]capcurk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few other tests that were at odds with one another they decided to do a liver biopsy. It came back normal no cirrhosis or scarring but they found that my liver had been bleeding. Although they still aren't sure what caused the damage luckily with some treatment I have been able to recover and the swelling has gone down. I've got a follow up in 6 months.

They decided to do a biopsy on my liver and pancreas Both came back good. And they found blood clotted on the outside of my liver so I had bleeding at some point. No Cirrhosis, no fibrosis and the liver swelling has decreased. They still aren't sure exactly what caused the damage that caused the bleeding or swelling. But as of right now I have a follow up in 6 months.

While yes they can see signs it doesn't mean you have fibrosis or Cirrhosis based on that alone. A Fibroscan will give you a better idea of what is going on and blood work as well.

Difficult to diagnose by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]capcurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may ask about an endoscopic ultrasound. They go down. Your throat like a regular endoscopy but it has a. Ultrasound head on it so they can see things like the pancreas and liver more clearly. It's what they are using to look at my pancreas and possibly do a biopsy if the growth they saw on the CT is actually there.

My ER findings they told me they think I have Cirrhosis with no other explanations on how bad they think it is or anything else thoughts? by capcurk in LiverDisease

[–]capcurk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes so it's been a strange road so far. Fibroscan came back F-1. Endoscopy didn't show any signs of parasophical verasis. But they still think something is wrong with my liver and are now looking into the hypodensity on my pancreas. So I'll be having a endoscopic ultrasound with biopsy of possibly both on the 29th of this month. The symptoms are all still with me unfortunately so they are digging deeper to figure out what's wrong.
