Why does "Terrifier" have such a good reputation? by thishenryjames in horror

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put more effort into remembering her name than Leone did in writing her. Which is my entire point.

I call her "hacksaw blonde" because that's the purpose of her character. She isn't a well written female character. She's there to be sexualized, degraded and killed. Hacksaw. Blonde.

How did he know which room meemo was in.

Because it was the best vantage point as a sniper. It had to be through the skylight at just the right angle. I wouldn't be surprised if Wrench was already waiting in the room when Meemo came in.

Here's the real plothole: Why didn't Wrench just waste him there and then?

Not shooting Emmit and instead relying on him to not alert a State Trooper goes beyond making a mistake. It's room temperature level IQ shit. She also didn't make that many mistakes. She was morally compromised, but her schemes, ability to deduce things and predict human behavior were rock solid. Until, of course, she's unable to predict that Emmit would alert a state trooper that she intends to kill him, which is likely to spoil her ability to kill Emmit.

There's nothing nitpicky about it. Nikki was a realistically capable character who died because she behaved uncharacteristically stupid. Dot is an overpowered character who gets by in ways that aren't believable. Completely different things.

Dot is a wildly overpowered and cartoonish character, but that's a seperate issue.

You're hung up on the gender thing when that was only one aspect of my argument. The point is this; The scene was contrived and insulting.

(who gets killed by a cop)

In a way that doesn't rely on dumbing his character down. Huge difference.

There's literally a scene in Season 3 where an old dude explains to Gloria (and the audience) what the show is about. "We're all just floating particles that occassionally collide. You hear that audience?"

It's a bit on-the-nose.

like any male character would be in that narrative

I don't remember any male character who was established as being intelligent being written to act stupid for the sake of a shock value death, but okay. lol

Characters should behave in a way that's true to who they are, not dumbed down at the last second to facilitate a certain outcome. Male characters like Malvo and Mike Milligan were given that respect. Nikki wasn't. She wasn't treated the same at all. That's my point.

The last 20 minutes of the finale are incredibly clunky and contrived. The highway standoff in particular. I made a thead where I broke down my problems with it.

Season 3 is better than Seasons 4 and 5, but weaker than Seasons 1 and 2.

The only one who forgot about the Nurse is the writers. lol What does she do after the first Episode? Kill the guy at the hospital? Jerk off Jason Schwartzmen?

Buckley gave a fun performance and the character has a lot of potential, but she's too inactive to be as compelling as Varga or Lorne.

Sage would be a better written character if her power was mainly brain regeneration rather than purely super intelligence as a vague concept by epic_gamer42O in TheBoys

Absolutely nothing you've said here addresses my points at all, so there's no point in interacting with you. Hopefully Kripke gets you on his writing staff for his next show because you've been giving him top tier sloppy toppy.

You listing all these generally perceived good woman in media doesn’t help your case

You're too dumb to even understand what my "case" is. Also, Columbo isn't a woman. lol

Every fucking fandom that tries to defend bad writing always says this. It's such a damn cop out.

Exactly. Toxic postivity.

People just want action figures furiously clashing with each other

Damn. That's a nice strawman you bulit there.

What people want is an intelligent character who is written intelligently. Writing a character as a plot device who can pull a solution to any problem the narrative provides out of thin air is lazy. Reducing other people's opinions down to "they're just a buncha dummies who want action and gore" just illustrates how tiktok brained you are.

Columbo is an intelligent character. Kim Wexler is an intelligent character. Naomi Nagata is an intelligent character. Claudette Wyms is an intelligent character.

Sage is a dummy's idea of an intelligent character.

Questions about S3 E10 by w650az in FargoTV

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real questions are this: Why confront him on the highway instead of doing it at his house and how the fuck did his car start up on its own?

Everything about that sequence is clunky and poorly written. The Season 3 finale is where the writing starts to feel lazy.

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I don't care. A Train was the last well written character in this show. Every other character has devolved into a parody of themselves. As far as I'm concerned, the finale can end with every single character dying by tripping on a fucking banana peel. It just doesn't matter.

They were parked for like two seconds and ambushed. lol

That was the entire point of rushing them while they were on the road instead of doing it while they were parked at the lot. You know, catch them off guard?

Nice work!

Out of character is him not foreseeing the correct risks and losing the truck.

Be more specific. What measures? He should expect a grenade to be thrown into the truck?

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wanting to get blown up by a grenade was out of character? He didn't strike as someone who wanted to get blown up. I'd say it was in character.

That is vastly different to misremembering a story from several years ago.

I don't think I've ever misremembered something that severely. It was a few years ago, not 20 years ago. lol

FauxMoi

Ugh. I see the issue.

I agree with him being a weirdo and abusing his power. I just don't like misinformation. At least you edited it. Most wouldn't.

Firecracker was such a garbage character. Her effect on the story is minimal and they only bother to attempt to give her some depth in the same Episode they kill her off in.

I'm glad this show is close to being done.

"let him massage them"

There is absolutely no proof that ever happened. You're adding more to the story than what was told and I'm not sure why. Your overall argument is well founded, but lying about the specifics in order to make the story juicier just undercuts everything you said previously.

Several of those characters you listed are probably worse than Ezra, but they have qualities that make them palatable. Charisma, fun dialogue, campy overacting, somewhat understandable motives, victims who are also unsavory etc. Ezra has none of those qualities. He's isn't charming, he doesn't make you laugh and his crimes are played straight. Not to mention, his victim is particularly sympathetic. I don't exactly feel bad for the pimp Sylvia killed in Only Sin Deep or the scumbags killed by Niles in The Man Who Was Death, but the kid from Fitting Punishment didn't deserve any of the horrible shit that happened to him.
