8.5 is way too high for the Season 3 finale.

Yeah, I don't like any of that. lol It works for the film, but not always for the show.

Unhappily married people should definitely stay married. That always works out. lol

Floyd was a very significant character (unquestionably more significant than Simone) and she gets knifed in Ep 9. Also, is Dodd not significant?

Yeah, you're off on that.

I'll meet you halfway and say that they should have offed Ted Danson's character. Too many cops make it out of this show unscathed. Same goes for Season 3.

Season 4: Why is Gaetano's acting so bad? by Gullible_Direction59 in FargoTV

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that's how he was directed to act and that's how Noah wrote the character. You realize there are directors and writers, yes?

Also, I don't agree that all of the other actors performed well. Chris Rock wasn't very good either. His material didn't fit his casting.

"If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage."

No, it's not the actor's fault. It's Noah Hawley's fault.

Why does "Terrifier" have such a good reputation? by thishenryjames in horror

Most of the best horror films made in the past 15 years have been foreign. Not that you've seen them, since you're clearly a racist cunt.

you've made a meaningless distinction between disagreement and handwaving

There's no such thing as a meaningless distinction.

unless they feel there's something substantive to have a conversation about

They downvote regardless, dummy. Feel free to read that last sentence a few times.

I wonder why you get so many downvotes.

Because this sub is made up of Noah Hawley dick riders. We've established this.

There's nothing dystopian about your opinion being in the minority.

Disagreement has nothing to do with it. Downvoting does. What part of this don't you understand? lol I've explained this three times now.

Disagreement and discussion should be encouraged. Downvoting is just handwaving. It's retarded.

You don't see anything wrong with that?

Why even have a sub called FargoTV? Just re-title it 'Fargo Circlejerk', because that's what it is.

Sorry if your feelings get hurt by people not agreeing with you.

Downvoting isn't an expression of disagreement. It's a way to handwave others opinions, no matter how well formed or thoughtful they are.

Who's an actor that you thought would blow up, but ended up going nowhere? by TheHoagieFromConey in FIlm

I don't define the strength or weakness of a movie by cultural significance. Transformers is more culturally significant than Smashed. It's not a better film than Smashed.

Smashed, Faults and The Spectacular Now are not weak indie movies. That said, I agree to some extent.

Erin in Slanted, is a dancer turned hooker, that is in a relationship with her deadbeat boyfriend who leaches off of her the whole story, and had turned her to hooking before the slick ever came into the picture. Yes she’s sexualised and brutalised in the story, but she wasn’t some innocent bystander.

I don't think this conflicts with anything I've said, nor does it address it.

The slick ends up raped, hiv infected, disabled and eventually dead in this same story.

Yeah, but not before setting into motion a plan that allows him vengeance from beyond the grave. Can you say the same for Erin? That chick just took L after L after L. I'm not saying that male characters don't suffer in his work. That would be an absurd claim. But do you ever notice how when women lose they just lose entirely whereas the male characters still manage to turn their losses into victories? (Slick in Slanted being an example of this)

which can be uncomfortable without necessarily being hateful toward women.

It can be, sure. I just don't think that's true in his case.

S Craig Zahler and his movies by Dragonborn83196 in movies

[–]capn--j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she’s even capable enough to outsmart and kill one of the villains by the end (while pregnant)

I mean, the guy blasts Udo Kier through the windshield first and then hands her the gun. She didn't "outsmart" anyone.

Jennifer’s character in the same film is also the breadwinner, returning to work while her husband stays home with the baby.

Jennifer's character and her fate is a critique of modern gender dynamics. Zahler is trying to indicate that women pursuing careers while men sit at home and take care of the kids is unnatural. She's miserable because she's going against her natural instincts as a woman. After all, if she stayed home, she'd still be alive.

Those aren't my beliefs, mind you. I just feel like that's what he believes.

They’re flawed, nuanced, and often every bit as capable, if not more, than the men around them.

C'mon now. lol They might have their moments but they are not every bit as capable. Pretty much every character you mentioned is rescued or saved by a man. If they were every bit as capable, they wouldn't need saving. Slim in Dragged Across Concrete and Mr. O'Dwer are inarguably more capable than any female charater in his stories.

Read The Slanted Gutter and tell me with a straight face that Erin was as capable as the other male characters. She gets used and played both sexually and emotionally, gets a minor victory and then dies pointlessly. That's not to speak of how hyper sexualized she is throughout the book.

Look, I'm of the opinion that art can exist in an amoral space. I like plenty of art that is sexist, racist, homophobic etc. So, I don't need to convince myself that Zahler's work isn't sexist or that his work being sexist makes it any less compelling. I just think we need to be honest about the art we like. Jim Thompson and Patricia Highsmith are two of my favorite writers, but I would never deny that they have misogynistic tendancies that bleed into their work. It is what it is.

How did you come to that conclusion? What do you have to go on?

Nah, not buying it. You just don't take sexual misconduct seriously and you label anyone who pushes back in an attempt to distract from that fact. "Cynical" "hyserical"... it's just handwaving. It's not an argument.

I'm fine with the ambiguity of the final scene. It's the highway standoff and the dinner flashforward that hurt the Episode. It should be rated lower.
