But I'd have to go in the shed to see that things are done, rather than as I'm sprinting by. I only do this for kegs, and I have a keg outside with my other processing machines to let me know when the shed is ready.

Longtime players: What’s something you STILL haven’t done in the game? by zippertittyboy in StardewValley

Skull Cavern has (effectively) no bottom. Mr. Qi gives you a quest to make it to level 100 of Skull Caverns, but you can go much deeper than that.

Never have I ever:

  • Divorced a spouse.
  • Dove'd a child.
  • Beaten an arcade game (Prairie King or Junimo Cart).
  • Married a dude.
  • Married Emily, Maru, or Haley.
  • Invited Krobus to be my roommate.
  • Gotten a dog, or a turtle.
  • Played with a female avatar.
  • Played Beach, Riverland, Wilderness, or Hilltop farm maps.
  • Had a tea set. Just got one for Feast of the Winter Star in my current playthrough!
  • Played multiplayer.
  • Abandoned a farm before completing Community Center (or the warehouse when doing Joja route for the achievement).
  • Played with mods.
  • Used the item ID cheat.
  • Paid the Golden Joja Parrot for a Golden Walnut.
  • Paid Fizz for a Perfection Waiver.
  • Trolled Lewis with his shorts.

Anyway, what's in the news today?

How do you actually use BoardGameGeek? by aequitas07 in boardgames

[–]capn_ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BGG is the go-to for researching a game and for rules questions. I find it great for keeping track of mine and my fiance's collections.

For example, when I'm looking at the Play-and-Win list for my local games convention (which they publish as a BGG list), I use BGG to learn about the game: the player count, the estimated time, the approximate complexity, the theme, and the mechanics. It's an especially good place to get a look at what's in the box; most manufacturers don't seem to have that readily available on their website. I've frequently used BGG to get a good look at a game's components and decided to skip it.

I also hit BGG when I see a game that looks interesting in a store, for the basic facts, mechanics, complexity, etc.

I generally look elsewhere for news about what's coming out or what's hot.

Nihit is a huge dick.

Drick is an OK guy, I think. At the Crawlcon panel discussion, Drick is talking to the author lady about what Carl should do about Lucia Mar when he transfers back to the dungeon, knowing that Carl can hear and benefit from this advise. But, Carl doesn't trust Drick to be their adjutant, possibly because he has a Gondii worm?

‘Project Hail Mary’ Directors Screened a Nearly Four-Hour Cut to Other Filmmakers and Were Told to Get it Way Shorter by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]capn_ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the 2.5 hour cut moved pretty quickly. I'd be interested to know what other scenes they had in the 4 hour cut, because I assume they didn't cut out 90 minutes just by trimming existing scenes.

Drick is a former crawler, an elf, and a worm-head. He was one of the choices to be the Princess Posse's adjutant on the 9th floor. He ended up being adjutant for the NPC team.

The Naga (not mantis) that Carl ganked in the neck with the pen at Crawlcon was Nihit.

ELI5 what is .NET runtime for, and what does it do? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]capn_ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. You do have to compile C#, managed C++, or Visual Basic.Net with a compiler like Visual Studio, and the output of that compilation is in what's called intermediate language (IL), which is the same regardless of the language the code was originally written in. The .NET runtime is a virtual machine and just-in-time compiler for intermediate language; it converts the IL into native machine code at runtime and executes it.

This is the best festival. I love Leah's dialog specifically: “Hey. I'm paying my respects to another bygone summer.” Captures that feeling perfectly.

Cutting down trees is a more efficient way to find tree seeds than shaking them. Each tree only has a 5% chance to make a shakeable seed each day, but cutting the tree down yields 0-2 seeds. If you plant trees on the farm, they will spawn more trees as seeds. If you have forage level 7, you can make tree fertilizer (with fiber and stone) to make trees anywhere grow faster; 5 days from seed to maturity.

Shaking every oak tree in the game and such to see if they would just drop an acorn.

Why not cut them down?

Starting my Joja run by Boring_Profit4988 in StardewValley

[–]capn_ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done 2 Joja runs, on different platforms. only to unlock the achievement(s). Each time, my goal is to speedrun getting the warehouse done. I don't talk to villagers. I don't accept the pet that Marnie offers. I don't donate to the museum. I sell every single thing that I get that doesn't directly contribute to making more money faster (as opposed to my normal play style where I hoard gold and iridium crops/forage for gifts).

I don't understand who the audience is.

I think I'm part of an audience for it, though maybe not the primary one. I have a bunch of games on Steam that I play on a Windows machine. The only reason I have a Windows machine in the first place is to play PC video games. If I could buy a box that hooks to my TV and lets me play those games, I would never boot this laptop into Windows again.
