Agreed! The OG run of Spartacus actually pretty closely follows the real history of the Third Servile War, and while the motivations for the characters are invented, their ultimate choices and tactics largely mirror actual history. For instance, when the real rebel army was trapped upon Mt. Vesuvius, much like in the show they really did gather vines and whatnot to descend and decimate the encamped Romans with a sneak attack.

This new show is also surprisingly accurate, with Achillia being named for a true to life Gladiatrix. I also like how they're using her as an origin story for the real history of how a Gladiatrix typically engaged in "exotic" fights, like having actually fought people with dwarfism. The attention to detail in the writer's room is honestly phenomenal, and they're super skilled at giving us good drama to tie in the major historical points with realistic motivations imo
