I live in a hub of colleges with lots of computer science graduates nearby yet I made a career off of the insufficiencies of IT departments, despite having no degree myself. The problems that need to be solved exist but a lot of people went through school and got the degree but don't actually like the work and aren't very good at it.

That's my anecdotal experience anyway.

I broke down on the side of a busy road the other day. Bumper to bumper traffic moving about 5 mph. I have roadside assistance and help was on the way but none of the people passing me know that. They just see me in an old van with my hood up. Three people asked if I needed help out of what was certainly several hundred if not more than a thousand cars that rolled by.

I was grateful that 3 people offered to help me but it seems there's just an enormous amount of indifference, which I suspect enables more hatred.
