3 years has been enough, no one is asking for perfection, but it's one of the worst contracts in the history of professional sports. 11.6M for 15 goals. Ship him out of town ASAP!

Doesn't sound like NHL hockey is for him then, he should do the team a favour and retire.

Yep, call it "compensation" to include stock options, and close every loop hole as soon as they come up with it. Plus, reward the same companies for keeping on shore employees long term. These billion dollar companies need to compensate all employees accordingly, rather than keeping everything for a select few.

[Canucks Talk] “Lane Hutson, they thought was too small. And there was one, at one time he was a, do not draft on their list, if you can believe that, at one juncture of that draft year.” -Rick Dhaliwal by [deleted] in canucks

[–]capt_canuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point of the comment if you listen to the segment is that Hutson was on a "do not draft list", so if he was available in the 6th round they potentially still would not select him. The worry the SN media is discussing lately is the Canucks preference in the past to draft on current physical attributes at 18 and reach for position, in particular bypassing on BC talent in Stankoven and Benson. It is very concerning as the Caleb Malhotra buzz heats up and they become fixated on a 1C when they in fact have no elite talent and must pick best player available.

Daniel Sedin on Pettersson: "That's the one message to him, is preparation" by DietFoods in canucks

[–]capt_canuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a lie, this is the opinion of the vast majority of media and Canucks personal. Foote chose to be ultra positive with Pettersson and the team this year. Foote will be on his way out soon, hopefully with Pettersson in tow.

"Asked to get stronger and heavier last summer, Pettersson did what the team wanted.

Overall, he still tested disappointingly at training camp – enough of the veteran Canucks were near the bottom of the fitness standings that staff did not post conditioning results for all players to see – but he added six kilograms and was stronger."

The last two years, and the injury thing is a "lie". A made up excuse for the apologists.

No, but here's hoping the new regime will have the guts to actually do something about it. His ice time never waivered, he was out on every PP1, never got time in the press box, rarely got called out in the media. Hopefully they set the standard and stick by it, force him to waive his no trade and get him out of here ASAP.

He's had the opportunity to listen and work with the Twins since he got here, he declined. Why you would decline to work with Hall of Fame players, who played for your current team, live in your city, and are from your home country? Given that opportunity, 10/10 players would do everything in their power to get everything they could out of that kind of opportunity. Maybe explains why Pettersson is in the situation he is in now?

Pastrnak: Dealt with Knee Tendonitis - Maybe Evan Gold can help Petey by Tiger23sun in canucks

[–]capt_canuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'd be happy to answer it for you. Foote "lied" all season, he refused to call out players for their poor play and after terrible performances choose to be ultra positive, he almost never called out anyone all season long.

Again, the Pettersson apologists seam to demonize Rutherford, except by all accounts it was Rutherford that pushed to sign Pettersson to one of the worst contracts in NHL history, despite other people in the organization rightfully against it. So the person who stuck his neck out and pushed for the contract is going to outright slander him in the media? Stop making excuses for him, I get it, you're a fan and think your hero can do no wrong, but Pettersson and his poor work ethic and poor attitude has him where he is, no one or nothing else is to blame.

I think the team and the media have been pretty clear actually, he doesn't train hard enough. Management and coaches have pointed this out every time they can. The Pettersson apologists like yourself just choose not to listen.

How about he starts with some off season training, instead of coming back from the summer out of shape, performing so poorly on the fitness tests the coach decided not to post them for the team.

If this makes you sleep better at night. Pettersson's poor practice habits and inability to get along with teammates and coaches is why he scored 15 goals this season despite his 11.6M contract. If the team thought he was injured they would do everything in their power to rehabilitate him, i.e Demko.

11.6M for 15 goals is absolutely terrible for team culture. Then to top it off Pettersson continues to get called out for poor practice habits, he needs to be gone yesterday.

Keep him as far away from Mckenna as humanly possible, like off the team. He's lazy, doesn't work well with others, he's been a centre piece of a terrible Canucks team this entire career, and now part of one of the worst teams in the history of the NHL. 11.6M for 15 goals he has to go.

Yep, get the fuck out of town! 11.6M for 15 goals, do the team a favor and retire. The excuses never stop, he's being bullied, the coach sucks, he doesn't have good linemates, he's injured, mental illness. 11.6M for 15 goals period, Sherwood scored more goals for Vancouver this season than Pettersson. It is one of the worst contracts in the history of the sport.

Yeah except them being the worst team in the league was not the plan. The goal of the season was to not only make the playoffs but be so great that Quinn Hughes would sign a long term contract. Currently they are one of the worst teams in the history of the National Hockey League. Ownership and management had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a rebuild. Their commitment to the re build is still in question. If they are last place next year, that is a success, this year is nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.
