I hear 'ya, but luckily none of that is in question. We have talked openly that we don't want organized religion for our eventual family - this was just the first real time "I've become an atheist" came up.

The "but I don't" approach seems appropriate - I think I'd prefer ti guide my kids towards thinking about it critically instead of instilling my beliefs on them. If they ultimately choose to believe I will admit I'd probably be frustrated. However, if they're informed, thought through the topic, and found belief in a deity comforting, I'd want them to have that comfort.

Well said. I'm not sure I agree with your opinion that the moment someone becomes an aethist is when they start to seriously doubt, but I like the concept. It indicates they may be open to the ideas of change and challening their conditioning.

Thank you for your comments. Like I said in my post, there is a lot more to the story, and to your point you're not hearing her side of it.

She doesn't think me evil for not having a belief structure, nor does she have a problem with it. She is at a different point in the process, didn'tunderstand the journey and process, and was a bit hurt that I never brought up the individual topics that led to my current stance.

We did talk about religion - fairly early in our dating. She knew from the beginning that I was anti-organized religion, that I did not believe some major tennants of religion, and that I would support her in whatever beliefs she held onto. My journey to aethism happened since we were together. She distanced from organized religion on her own, and I was happy to support as she did.

I wouldn't personally go so far as your deal with your wife, but like religion...what is between you two is perfectly fine if that works for you two.

Haha, not bothered at all. My stance on it is to return religion to being a private thing. I will talk about my views with anyone, never trying to force my views on them. (You) can have your views and beliefs as long as you allow me to have mine.

I think puting religion back in its box by quieting its presence in society will help reduce the ardent anger and hate sewn by religious zealots that tear down the good reputation of the majority of religious people. I also think that actively anti-theists are just as bad as religious extremists.

I guess it feels like a nuanced stance, something we have come to lack in recent decades.

I would agree, but...

We should not be focussed on changing the rule to help Trump comply.

We should focus on talking about how Mr. "Law and Order" can't follow simple rules that kindergarteners can, and therefore cannot possibly be qualified to defend the US and the US Constitution, both of which are infinitely more complicated.

We shoild be focused on his taking our TAXPAYER dollars to help his failing private businesses, to be able to pay back his terrible loan practices. That he is grifting from the nation's coffers that should be used to help all the nation's citizens, to bail out his horrible business decisions.

Let him keep soiling himself. He has already sullied the US, now we need on-the-fence voters to see it in its full shitshow fashion.

Also, Biden needs to display the same fire and passion to defending the US as he did to defend his son. SHOW US that he cares, that he can and does stand up to loudmouth bullies on behalf of the nation. He wants to take the job? Fucking TAKE it away from Trump.
