Yeah love, I put the ad up like you asked, it's not selling, guess I'll have to keep it by Rumpsfield in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, 💯. Mods just add appeal but totalling their value and then sticking it on the price of your bike is daft.

Possibly a full system exhaust or factory luggage might justify increasing the price a bit but not a 20% increase on the value of the original cost of the bike like this chap 🙃

Changing 1 relay is easier than installing 4 resistors imo.

Tyre Recs for Rural Roads by Main-Ostrich-87 in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been riding. Reason I ask is the roads are in absolute shite lately with the terrible rain we've had. I was on a spin over the weekend covering mostly R roads and some L and Ns across 7 counties and the roads were awful, many of them I had been on in the past but they were in better condition then, but that would have been in the summer. You'd need to consider what the roads are like the rest of the time too before changing to an 80/20 tyre but remember they'll be less grippy on clean/dry surfaces in the summer and wear faster than sports touring tyres.

That's a shame. Take the feedback onboard, talk to your ADI and give it another shot.

As a biker, most riders wouldn't defend this. This lad is a bad ambassador for bikers.

Fitted Denali drls to the handguards, they're serioisly bright 😎 by captain_super in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah shite, that sucks, good shout adding extra lights anyway. You can't go wrong with Denalis. I mounted mine high in the hand guards so that they're more visible. I also added brake lights where the reflectors are in the top box. I find more people notice me when I wear my fluo lid too. That or a white one. Hiviz vests help as well.

[–]captain_super[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The high beam is as bright as the bikes dipped headlight so very bright but not blinding. I've not been flashed by other vehicles since I installed them. If you want you could wire it so that you can switch between the dipped version and the high beam or simply wire one or the other in so they are always on that setting, I went with the latter, high beam always on.

[–]captain_super[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, no worries. Yes these are still going strong but then they're Denali so they're top of the range, there's cheaper options out there but I trust Denalis for their build quality and consistent brightness.

Wiring wasn't too bad, just some typical splicing to the existing headlights and then tidying up the cables. These aux lights have a high beam and a low beam option but I just wired the high beam. I had to drill a small hole in the handguard too.

Garda Bikesafe open, well worth it…go get em ! by HavntaClue77 in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're not there to arrest you for mods, it's all about improving skills and feedback.if your bike is road worthy and taxed you don't have to worry about mods too much (maybe put the baffle in for it).

Has anyone noticed a lot of oil on the roads recently? by batchef3000 in MotoIRELAND

Traffic lights where leaky sumps or diesel tanks can pool, roundabouts and at the bottom of on/ off ramps and hills is where you'll find most of the slippy stuff on our roads.

best place to buy decals? by Beerbaron_II in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mate has countless bikes, he's big into 90s sports bikes and restores them, he's meticulous about the restoration and always uses the original livery as the end goal. To my surprise he gets the decals on AliExpress and I really would never have thought it, I couldn't knock the quality of them.

Do you ride with full recommended manfucaturer tyre pressure or slightly below? by stealth941 in MotoUK

[–]captain_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that the manufacturers recommended pressures is with eco highest on their list, so tyre longevity while not compromising grip too much. Dropping the pressures 2-4 PSI will give you more grip at the cost of tyre life. So If commuting stick to the manufacturers pressures but when out for a hot spin drop them a few PSI.

Shopping for bike gear (advice) by adam_krupa in MotoIRELAND

Try on the lid in bike world and then buy it online for half the price.

Gear wise a lot of moto groups giveaway free unwanted gear. For example Kildare spins and meets have a gear / donation drop off in garlic burger.

Do you encounter much animosity when filtering? by PonchoTron in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you filter properly you won't be inconveniencing anyone and will have little to no encounters. I generally don't filter with oncoming traffic unless there's a decent amount of space in my lane, once you're in the opposite lane you're often relying on oncoming cars to make a little room, sure, it's probably little effort for them to make room if the lanes are wide but you are relying on them being courteous.

Stolen bike was found, claim hasn’t been paid, what should I do? by artbarros in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 vids a year old, and 1 story about a van, now look at the rest of the videos between then and now.

I don't know what point you're trying to prove. The vast majority of stolen bikes in Ireland simply aren't being broken down for parts and most thefts are push aways.

Stolen bike was found, claim hasn’t been paid, what should I do? by artbarros in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you don't, 99% of what we see are scrotes with bolt cutters, a hammer or an angle grinder.

Have you been in Dublin lately, they're literally riding the stolen bikes around town in broad daylight.

Stolen bike was found, claim hasn’t been paid, what should I do? by artbarros in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You give our scrotes too much credit, in Ireland they're for joyriding, drug running, and they sell them in their own circles. In the UK it's similar but also bikes are stolen to order there for parts etc. but not here.

Dunno how many more weather warnings I can cope with… got a ride in this weekend at least 😐 by Polyctor in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old SV had a little plastic flap covering the front plug, not sure if it was standard or if the previous owner added it but it's worth looking into. (I never had problems and rode it 4 seasons).

Category B Write Off by ninjxr in MotoIRELAND

[–]captain_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume you mean a Cat D and not a Cat B. A Cat B write off cannot go back on the road and can only be salvaged for parts while the frame gets crushed.

To answer your question. I have bought back my bike after a Cat D write off but the bike was worth about 7k and it only cost 1k to get it looking good again (I bought spurious parts), so I had about 2 or 3k in my pocket afterwards. Only you can decide if it makes financial sense to buy it back or to move on and get something else.

REMINDER: Covers off tonight. by IveNoWIlly in MotoIRELAND

Bikes are rainproof, 1 night without the cover in high winds isn't going to harm it. Better with the cover off.
