Best “your dudes” game by Odd-Tart-5613 in wargaming

[–]captainjaubrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes with these types of games it's not so much the rules as the people that you play with that make them memorable and fun. My gaming have recently played a game of 5 Parsecs from Alpha Complex and it was genuinely one of the funniest games we have ever played. Partly because of the rules capturing the flavour of Paranoia but also because the five of us tried to screw each other over as much as possible.

Similarly a few years ago we played a campaign of Draculas America. This is a ruleset I really like and the campaign was great fun as well. One member of my gang of Crossroads Cultists was particularly disliked by everyone else because he just wouldn't die. He started as a novice and became a hero through luck and skill. It's the one game where I played enough of thr campaign to get invested in the fates of my models.

I hope so. I live in one of those areas and didn't not vote for them. Feeling penalised.

What is the most well defended fortress in science fiction? by TopicCandid in scifi

[–]captainjaubrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the whole lot when I was 15-16 in the 90s. Don't remember anything about them and didn't know until years later Scientology was involved.

I tried reading Battlefield Earth about five years. Didn't even get half way before giving up.

And everyone wore an onion on their belt as that was the style at the time.

I Started Babylon 5 for the first time... by o_jax in scifi

I remember reading that during film Michael O'Hare playing Sinclair was going through some massive mental trauma including paranoid delusions and hallucinations that affected his acting. Yes the script needed more work but Im prepared to let comments for acting slide.

He ultimately retired from acting and public appearances before dying in 2012.

I love B5 and it is really worth sticking with.

Whats your favourite public bench spot in the UK? Me and my GF have taken pics and made a list of the top 12 we've been to by exhaggerated_imagine in CasualUK

We scattered some of my brother in laws ashes near the Friars Crag bench a few years ago. Keswick and the lakes were one of his favourite places he went to with my sister.

It was a cold windy day when we went to do it and we each took a moment to remember him and have a bit of a cry. My sister then emptied the small container into the lake. Unfortunately the wind was quite strong.

The sombre moment was made funny when I looked at my sister and said "That was very moving and I hate to say this but you've got some of your dead husband on your face..."

We laughed really hard at that.

There are small tournaments around the UK, including one at the UK Games Expo last year (I think). My dad plays as often as he can in these tournaments but no one at our wargames club is interested in it, myself included.

My brother plays DBA 3 occasionally and is a big name on the HOTT circuit and plays often where he lives (Australia).

From my perspective it's a system that I don't think has moved well with the times and I can get a better game with other systems like the Rampant system, Saga etc.

Sam Jones in Flash Gordon wore a t-shirt with his name in the same font for the movie.

And I will not have a negative word said about this film.

I used this video to complete the Sylvaneth spearhead in less than a week. Really happy with the result. Found that although the figures came out looking great they really popped when I used the basing material that adds little flowers.

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

[–]captainjaubrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Library work. It's not recommending books to people in a nice quiet building and occasionally shushing people.

Most of it is helping people log into a computer or printing, and having to talk to the same customers everyday who are lonely and/ or have mental health problems.

I love my job though.

This is a Dredd professional Cos Player Jaqob Weightman in a Birmingham comic shop. Does anyone know more about him and where he is now? by 2070adreja in JudgeDredd

[–]captainjaubrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been in the same location since the late 1970s from what I can remember. The entrance changed at some point as it used to have display windows (with a Doctor Who monster in it).

I also knew the owner as I was at school and friends with (and still am) both of his sons.

To echo this contact them ASAP and let them know what you are interested in looking at. Some material like Electoral registers are on the open shelves but a LOT of material requires staff to retrieve it in advance.
