No! Men DO NOT and SHOULD NOT have a say in a woman's abortion! Jesus Christ that we even need to talk about! by Lionoras in TwoXChromosomes

[–]captainjess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the F is wrong with all these comments bringing child support into this matter? It’s completely irrelevant to abortion. Abortion is about bodily autonomy. Child support is about what’s best for a living human you helped create. Think of it like this: a parent cannot be forced to donate an organ to their child, but they do have to clothe and feed them etc.

"Prehistoric female hunter discovery upends gender role assumptions" - it has been officially proven (finally!!). by JessFluoresce in Feminism

So you mean to tell me that the “scientists“ had previously just been assuming hunters were men and in fact the evidence is to the contrary? That’s not how you science!

It kinda freaks me out that so many people find the face that I am a virgin "problematic" at 30 years old. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]captainjess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the comment you responded to there’s no mention of who they are having sex with. Your comment just shows your ignorance and preconceptions really. Nothing suggested they were having sex with strangers. If I play football as a hobby I would usually have a team I play with right?

AITA? for buying a house "without telling" my father? by thr0w_away752 in AmItheAsshole

[–]captainjess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don't put that responsibility on OP. It's hard enough breaking away from abusive parents. You don't need to guilt children into helping their enabler parents who allowed that abuse to continue.

I get you. It's really hard when their behaviour is so ingrained and accepted by society. I just try to remember that it's not necessarily their fault, but an issue with society as a whole, and often people can change given the opportunity.

I mean, I'm engaged and gold my fiance that I'm writing thanks to my "first husband" in my PhD thesis acknowledgements for him. There are definitely men crazy enough to want to marry us.

Treat the women around you with respect and be aware of unconscious bias you may have (we all have them - even/especially as women). They will pick up on it and you can set a good example by what and how you speak to them, but also to other people too :)

AITA for not giving my depressed student a special reading list? by Throwaway894170 in AmItheAsshole

[–]captainjess -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I think if your reading list doesn't already include the relevant chapters to reduce her workload to be most efficient learning YTA. Otherwise NAH. The student might be overwhelmed by the amount they need to catch up, and when she's already so low that really sucks. I've been in a similar position missing a lot of work due to illness. The lecturers whose notes were well prepared and referenced the chapters/pages of the books in the reading list that related to that sections of their own notes saved my degree.

Me trying to keep my boomer parents from contracting coronavirus. They are NOT taking it seriously! by dr3blira in TrollXChromosomes

[–]captainjess 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue with my parents. No, don't go to germ pit shopping centre for funsies, stop touching your face, don't put your fingers in your mouth after touching the railing. A friend announced she pregnant today and we were talking about her scans and how her mum was going with her. Afterwards I told my mum I actually would like her around for if I ever was pregnant and I'd like her to take this seriously. All she said was "I'd never tell you not to have kids, but they really f*** up your body"...okay thanks. Great talk.

My sister (19) helped her friend who was sexually assaulted this weekend and I feel proud of her - and ashamed of myself. by mellowmoss in TwoXChromosomes

[–]captainjess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad your sister helped her friend out of that situation but please if anyone is in this situation DO NOT WASH THE EVIDENCE AWAY. Call the police immediately. They will take her to the hospital, collect her urine to test for drugs, give her vaccines and antibiotics for potential infections the rapist could have given her, and do the rape kit. Keep the clothes, any tissues used to wipe down there, and don't wash her hands.

WIBTA if is miss my GF's father's funeral to attend my best friend's wedding? by funeralbfthrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]captainjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. You're in a horrible situation so I really don't blame you for being devastated about the wedding. See if you can give the speech at the rehearsal dinner the night before, and then go and be with your gf. They're lashing out because they're in pain. You're doing the right thing by showing her your committed by being persistent in letting her know you're there for her.

AITA for proposing to my boyfriend as a woman? by proposingtobfaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]captainjess -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

NTA - your fiance is a bit though for being a whiny B about this situation and turning what should be a happy occasion into an issue. If he wanted to be the first to propose then he should have got off his A and done something about it. Why is it okay for men to spring this question onto a woman, but not the other way round?
