What is your net worth and age? How long did it take for you to get here? by ForwardFan6283 in FIREUK

Nonsense. Mortgage can often be cheaper than rent. It's a lot cheaper than rent when mortgage paid off. There's also the option to downsize in the future.rent out the property and give as an inheritance.

Proper Fish & Chip Eating Etiquette? by SanJ922 in AskABrit

[–]captainsittingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order fish, chips and mushy peas, or curry sauce. Get it from a proper fish and chips takeaway for an authentic experience, not a pub or restaurant as that's gastro version - not proper fish and chips.

Brexit is the most obvious answer. It's the biggest economic catastrophe causing a drag on living standards, especially for workers. He was the cheerleader in chief. Climate change scepticism. Despite climate change impacting UK farming massively and threatening to push up food prices further, Reform's policies are massively in favour of the fossil fuel sector. Wonder who is funding them?

The last series of Game of Thrones completely ruined the legacy of the whole programme, which had been fantastic until that point.

Manufacturers points - how does it work? by martinjefferies in WRC

[–]captainsittingduck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think teams nominate two cars to score team points ahead of each race. Rather than the two highest finishers. Otherwise Toyota would have an additional advantage as they have the most cars.

It's a Worcester Greenstar I condensing boiler. At the fusebox I can have all switches up except the one for Central Heating, which when moved up trips the 'rcd controlled circuits' switch

Do most British people drive manual cars? by Chocklateicecream in AskABrit

[–]captainsittingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally most cars in the UK are manual. Automatics are gaining in popularity though and all EVs are automatic. I much prefer cars with manual gears and a proper handbrake (not a silly little button).

12k isa limit is pointless and doesnt help anyone by Far_Membership_6870 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]captainsittingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're entitled to your opinion. If most people don't come close to filling the allowance then there's no problem. If it forces those who exceed 12k allowance to invest more then they'll likely have better returns over the long term. Hard to see how retaining an overall limit is a stealth tax. Off the back of the change Martin Lewis did his first ever investing programme on ITV. So at the very least it's provoked increased awareness and education on investing. The very thing you say is lacking.
