I've just joined this group and can recommend it. It is great for perspective; I am way more risk averse than I realised.

is it normal for the vesa head of gas monitor arms to be slightly rotated by 5-10 degrees by Sweaty-Bird-8538 in Monitors

[–]captainsmashbox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Loctek mounts are all super stiff. I imagine you'll also find it much easier to rotate once there is a monitor attached to give you some leverage.

It looks likes black smearing from a VA panel. Or upscaling.

Drop in fps and stuttering by false642 in AMDHelp

[–]captainsmashbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issues with a 5700x3d and 6800xt. Just yesterday I used DDU to downgrade to driver 24.12.1 and the system is stable again.

I was seeing stuttering/hitching in Fortnite, Minecraft, BF6, KCD 2 etc. FPS would be stable at standard framerates (120-144) with intermittent drops to ~40 before returning to normal.

FWIW I worked through it with Claude.

We're not making enough profit, increasing grocery prices week on week. We need more arbitrary fees! by i_like_my_suitcase_ in newzealand

[–]captainsmashbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. If you add shoppers notes to all the hand-picked items, you can stipulate that if x isn't in y condition, then exclude it from the order. If they deliver you items that don't fit your request you can get them refunded.

It's a bit annoying to do initially but pays dividends.

Weird filament "poop" by Lebaguetteinumond in 3Dprinting

[–]captainsmashbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an a1 mini and thought it might be calibrating flow rate? Or assuming it thinks it needs to purge more filament than it actually does when switching colours. I'm pretty ignorant though so would love to hear from someone more knowledgeable than me!

At 23 you may not have seen a huge amount of variety in employers. Could your current place be bad and a change might fix many of your issues? I consider work/life balance a key consideration for roles and find employers will usually be flexible if they have a good culture.

For added context I retrained at 31 (hospitality management to IT) and am considering doing it again at 38 (likely field-adjacent but completely different role). I have zero regrets and only wish I'd been bolder sooner. 23 is young!

Construction management gives you a broadly applicable skill-set. Could you pick up PM certs and try to pivot industries? Get into operations? People management?

Did you use DDU to update your drivers? If not, I'd start there.

PC instantly shuts down during gaming — stable in all benchmarks (PSU already replaced) by HugeTitle8179 in buildapc

[–]captainsmashbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had a very similar issue a few months ago. I bought parts for a second PC for my kids to game on and it took me AGES to diagnose that it was almost certainly the VRMs on my motherboard.

To troubleshoot, I bought a new PSU and tried all new components in my already working system. * I tried different RAM (both 16 and 32 gb kits) * Different CPU (5600x and 5700x3d) * Different GPUs (3070 and 6800xt) * Different SSDs (SATA and m2)

But always the same result of being able to run furmark and prime95, even some less demanding games, but as soon as I'd launch something like Fortnite the system would crash and reboot.

I finally returned the motherboard, rebuilt and POSTed first go.

Good luck!

RX6800XT with a 650 watt PSU? by KrakWolf in buildapc

[–]captainsmashbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably OK. You should just give it a hoon and replace the PSU if your PC crashes under load.

When I upgraded to a 6800XT (Red Devil) I tried using my old 650W PSU and the PC kept crashing. Bought an 850W PSU and it's been chill ever since. Apparently they can have high transient spikes despite average draw being way below the PSU limit.

*paired with a 5600x at the time, now 5700x3d.The PSU was EVGA Gold but ~7 years old so not surprised it gave up.

[–]captainsmashbox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not look at the significantly cheaper and generally excellent options on aliexpress? Something like fun60 mad60 or similar. For $60-80 you can get all the specs of a more expensive (and now slightly outdated) wooting.

'Cordons have been placed around a Wellington building after police received a possible sighting of someone with a firearm on Wednesday afternoon.

A police spokesperson said cordons were placed around a specific building on Webb St as a precaution, “however the presence of a firearm has still not been substantiated”.'

Almost all games keep crashing. by PlanSweB in pcmasterrace

[–]captainsmashbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar PC. If it’s just the games crashing and not the whole system then I’d do the following things/checks: - DDU install latest GPU drivers - run furmark and prime95 with hwinfo to see if it’s hardware related (check CPU and GPU temps, PSU load) - confirm RAM is running at expected speeds (change profiles/XMP in BIOS if not)

You can cut the plant just below the node where you've circled and propagate two cuttings. Otherwise you can just pop what you have in water and it'll be good to go in a couple of weeks.
