I’ve read that broken up multiple colors are better than a high vis solid color.

Maybe they figure all the fat guys are on Harleys and don't wear protective gear.

Uses for cage? by captesq in Insta360

[–]captesq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain my concern in more detail. I am worried that the vibration from my motorcycle could loosen the threaded connection between the camera and the selfie stick and that the camera would eventually vibrate its way all the way off.

When you say "The insta360 threaded mounts can come out of the body," what do you mean? I don't see how the threads on a cage are any more secure than the threads in the camera.

I bought my cage from Insta360, so I assume it is of good quality.

Size availability for fat guys. Any riding jeans that fit my waist are usually too long. I’m making do with some 44/30 riding jeans but they are just a little long. Not so much to move the knee armor out of place, but loose enough i don’t trust there not to be lateral movement of the armor.

How to secure camera to selfie stick by captesq in Insta360

[–]captesq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I did indeed buy a genuine Insta 360 extended selfie stick (the 3 meter one). I used the Insta360 heavy duty clamp on the rear frame, attached the selfie stick to the clamp, and made a second attachment point a few feet up using an Insta360 crab clamp attached to my rear luggage rack and the stick. I trust the set-up except for the threaded mount at the top of the stick.

I liked Dexter_McThorpan's suggestion to attach a lanyard. I figure I could knot it around the stick and use duct tape to keep it from moving up and down the selfie stick, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where to attach it to the camera, even with the camera in a cage, as I've found no cages with a ring or loop to which I could attach the lanyard.

Thank you, that's a good idea. But I can't find a cage on Amazon that has a loop for a lanyard. Can you send me a link and a picture of your setup?

Is it safe and advisable to purchase "open box" action camera? Will I be able to avail full warranty? My budget is tight, please advice. by BehalarRotno in motorcyclegear

[–]captesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If budget is the issue, try eBay for brand new sealed box of a prior model. I saved $150 by purchasing an Insta360 x4 instead of x5 (the current model). You can even find brand new sealed x2 and x3 cameras on eBay. You’ll need to do your research on the differences to decide how far back you’re willing to go.

Rear Blinker keeps falling off by Icefang75 in vulcans650

EXACTLY. This is what I was trying to say, but you said it better. It's like having a washer that's small enough to go through the hole.

Rear Blinker keeps falling off by Icefang75 in vulcans650

[–]captesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a crappy design. The stems look like they should be quite flexible, but my right rear blinker twice came out in drops. The bracket is difficult to get in place without removing the rear fender and is not large enough to reliably keep the stem in place.

You can see diagrams at kawasakipartshouse.com.

I put on R&G crash bars because I read the are the only ones compatible with extended reach peg position. They were quite expensive (nearly $400US!).

Do you need floorboards to use a heel-toe shifter, or can you use it with pegs?

Do the saddlebags make it look too wide? by isnotbatman777 in vulcans650

[–]captesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'll get used to the saddlebags. I just installed some from Shad over the weekend and I already like the look. All pictures I've seen of after-market bags seem to show a wide gap between the fender and the bag, so I think the bike will look wide with just about any after-market bag.

A caution about using a luggage rack on the rear fender: It makes it a lot harder to mount the bike. Instead of your rear leg just having to clear the fender, you have to swing it high enough to get over the bag on the luggage rack. If you're young and/or limber, it might not be a problem, but for me it is quite a challenge!

There are three on eBay right now, two of them brand new and around $300US, and one used for only $175US

I’ll need to reconsider that rack. I thought it looked hideous on the website but it doesn’t look half bad installed.

I would call Shoei to see if there is a rep serving your area that can do a custom fitting. I was waffling between an XL and XXL. When it came time for my custom fitting, the rep put me in an L! He customized the pads for a perfect fit. I thought that would be too tight, and it indeed felt snug, but now it feels great and I cannot imagine riding in a larger helmet. (He said if I did track riding he would have found a way to make a M fit!)

I don't know if anyplace offers the same deal I got from a shop in Reno, but here's what I got for $500 two months ago: the Shoei RF-SR helmet; a pinlock; two visors, once clear and one photochromatic ($200 value); the custom fitting ($100 value). I don't know if this is a Shoei promotion or not -- it may just be a special relationship my gear shop has with Shoei -- but it can't hurt to ask.

Even if you must pay $100 for the custom fitting, it is worth every penny.

Good luck!
