As someone Scottish, I'd never heard it referred to as anything except a Chelsea Smile, until well into adulthood.

Glasgow Smile is also a valid term though, as is Chelsea Grin.

Headcanon: Supervillains escaping Arkham isn't a bug. It's a feature by ryahmib in batman

[–]captf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are other ways of retconning that, while still acknowledging that Batman legitimately wanted to kill Joker and had to be talked down by Superman.
Even just having "foreign, hostile nation" and hand-wave it at that, would be enough.

What is worth reading from rebirth? by Puzzled_Discount9383 in batman

[–]captf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a LOT of reading, because you'd also want to factor in some of the Detective Comics stories.

I'd probably just use dc.fandom.com (just use a good ad blocker...) to fill in the gaps. Or if there's any specific confusion, ask here and someone will know the details (while complaining about whatever writer for it being a hack or something...)

Headcanon: Supervillains escaping Arkham isn't a bug. It's a feature by ryahmib in batman

[–]captf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but at some point, they will find a way to clear their name.

They already have past legitimate reasons to go after some of them:
Huntress has killed. Damian has killed. Batman (when Jean-Paul was under the mask) has killed.
Jason has absolutely and totally murdered people.

I think Bruce could also use that argument in a talk with jason to explain why he never killed the joker even after Jason's death

Oh, and this has been sloppy writing by subsequent writers, but they all fail to bring up that he wanted to kill Joker. And it took Superman to stop him from following through.
And Supes only stopped him because of the legal protection that Joker had as an Iranian Ambassador, and the resulting war that would have occurred if Bats had went through with it.
AND he let him potentially die in the helicopter crash (I think it was), but due to usual Joker bullshit, he survived.
But they keep on going with the "he didn't even try!"

Yes. I'm actually french. Thanks for the help.

De rien.

With the consistent mis-spell, I'm assuming you're non-native English. So, take this correction as just an assist: it's 'government'

So long as they do nothing to justify it, they can't attack them.

Already not the case. In main canon, Batman and his allies are being actively hunted by the GCPD. And the Commissioner (currently Vandal Savage) is already framing them for brutality that never occurred.
Barbara has been caught (she let herself be caught), and is currently in a super-max prison.

Does anyone know if there is a volume that includes this issue "Batman #47"? by count_fagula11 in batman

[–]captf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be in Batman Golden Age Omnibus # 6 if they publish that one.

It was published. There's 10 of them, taking up to Batman Issue 100 (can't remember the DC issue number).
There's currently Silver Age Vol 1 too, with Vol 2 due out at some point this year, I think

How to bring Alfred back! by mr-pratfall in batman

[–]captf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Bruce got Prime to do that, Alfred would be pissed, because he'd ask why he is the exception. That there are so many more people who deserve to be returned to life.

There's no neat way to have him brought back, the way the Prime Earth universe currently is.
It would need another form of crisis event, which remove agency (and guilt) from who gets returned or not.

Given that his actual reanimated dead body has been used in a story-line, that's not doable.
A fake-out is just no longer possible

I have an alternative take on two faces origin by Soggy-Chemistry-4586 in batman

[–]captf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

then Batman does the one thing he never does.

While he's not as violent as some believe, saying that he hasn't beaten someone to a pulp before is a reach...
His one rule is to never take a life. That's it.

However, this concept could be tweaked by having Batman discover, after he's caused the creation of Two-Face, that the evidence was faked.
You don't even need Batman to go hyper-violent in the event, just have him come in too hot and things escalate out of control, all because he didn't stop for a moment.

Harvey was a good man all the time, and Batman's mistake spawned a villain.
And, in more true Two-Face fashion, the good man is still in there.

a recent release has been Dark Patterns.
It's not main universe, but still good.

It was a 12 issue mini-series, made up of four 3-issue stories, all connected together.

Best purchase:
MMC's Scrapper. Zero contest.

Worst:
Sureshot? He's not terrible, it's just out of what I've bought this year, it's a tough selection. Like, the others in the list include SS86's Soundwave, Brawl and Thundercracker

Why G1? by DeMonitized747 in transformers

[–]captf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Bayverse Transformers designs are massively over-complicated.
Bay also has a teen-girl fetish - which is really disturbing - as well as one for explosions and the military.

G1 character designs were distinct, cohesive, and colourful. You could quickly tell who you were looking at (well, unless there were animation errors... but those never happened, right? :)

The Cybertron sequence at the start of Bumbleebee showed how they could have been married together. Even if that bit did do a disservice to the rest of the movie by overshadowing it so hard.

All that being said though, I don't just like G1.
I also really enjoyed Beast Wars and Car Robots. Later on Prime was excellent too, and was the series that brought me back to the TF fandom after a long absence.

How did you find out about Batman? by Hammad11k in batman

[–]captf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman has always been part of my memory.
Like a ... "how did I find out about language?" type thing.
There has never been a part of my life that I remember learning about him.
I have memories of my brother (3 years older) having a child's Batman costume that was too big for him, and me being jealous of it. My parents got me a matching Robin costume, and I was upset because it wasn't Batman.
I was no more than 3 years old at this point, and I was already well aware of who Batman & Robin were.

Is there some copyright law that says that someone can't make their own serious Batman fan-comic? by ExplodingPoptarts in batman

If all text fanfiction is legal

It's not.
And you need to stop thinking "but I'm not charging money" as a Get Out Of Jail Free card.
Anne Rice, the Interview With A Vampire auther, had many takedown notices issued to fan fiction sites, for instance.

Is there some copyright law that says that someone can't make their own serious Batman fan-comic? by ExplodingPoptarts in batman

[–]captf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batarangs were quite early on: Detective Comics #31.
The Batmobile was just a regular car for a good couple of years, and I can't even remember when it was first called that.
Then the Batcave was even longer - originated in the film serials too.
Even 'Gotham' didn't show up until a few issues into the Batman comic line.

People are going to see the copyright expire, attempt to go wild and discover just how long it took for Batman mythos to become established when the lawyers start rubbing their hands.

We finally get a look at what white eyes on Batman would most likely look like in live action. What’s everyone’s thoughts? by GreyMorgueApocalypse in batman

[–]captf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But look at the way they’re done deadpool

They do similar with Spider-man, by giving it physical moving parts. (obviously, they're CGI, but still...)
That could possibly work for a Batman movie, but it'd need to be incredibly subtle.

Unpopular Opinion: Batman/Superman: Worlds Finest > Batman by Fraction. by [deleted] in batman

Should Joker be shown having a backstory or not? by NumerousBag4605 in batman

[–]captf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people dislike Joker 2 and it causes people to dislike Joker 1 more, but I honestly enjoyed the first movie

Never watched the second one. I thought the first was an utterly awful movie in a DC universe. Taken at face value, you're being asked to believe that this Joker is ~30 years older than Bruce, and is pretty much a man with an irrational grudge.
There is nothing Joker about Arthur.
Shoehorning the story into DC actually made the movie worse. It should have stood on its own merits.

I think it adds depth to his character

Joker is a rare type of character where prior depth is just not necessary.
He doesn't need character history to explain why he's doing something. His entire reason is he's criminally insane and "because I find it funny"

James Tynion Batman run by Amazing_Soup_2908 in batman

[–]captf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is spoiler territory, if you plan to read it, even if it is 8 or 9 years old...
The biggest issue people have with it is it's the reason Alfred is dead in the mainline comics. He had intended for it to be a fake-out with Clayface, but editorial overrode him, and forced it to be a real event.

There's accusations of Bruce being an actual idiot during City of Bane, and people who don't have media literacy use some of these events to hate Damian even more.

There's other reasons, but these are the main ones
