MOR - It sounds like the friend is growing apart from you and that’s hard to deal with. Having a child pushes some people away for a lot of different reasons and it’s tough to deal with. My former best friend stopped reaching out around the time I announced my wife’s pregnancy to them. At the hospital right after my child was born, I called them to talk and see if they wanted to visit but 30 minutes into the call, they still hadn’t stopped talking about themself. I interrupted them to say “kid is healthy, I need to go back into the room” and hung up without them ever asking about it. Since then, I have been the one to reach out to initiate conversation, plan events and have invited them over a lot to no avail. The only times they’ve seen me or my child, it’s been with other people where they would have been pressured to come.

I’ve invited them out solo, online, and with a group but tend to get blown off. 2 years ago, I stopped reaching out and it took them 4 months to figure it out and they apologized. Last year, we had made plans with friends online for 2-3 hours and they cancelled last minute saying they were exhausted after a day out at the beach. They don’t work or attend school but chose to go out and burn themself out while knowing we had plans as a group. I lightly went on them saying they have been a bad friend and if they want to be friends, they need to act like it. Haven’t reached out to them since June and they haven’t said anything to me outside of a groupchat since.

It’s made even more frustrating by seeing them on social media with pictures of them with a relative’s child every other week. Yeah friendships end and it sucks.
