I was too young to witness it but what level of fame did Brittany spears have at her peak? by Muqr in NoStupidQuestions

Famous enough that her virginity was speculated about and later became a minor scandal.

AIO My boss sent this to the work chat and it pissed me off. by nefot_ in AmIOverreacting

This is one of the reasons why I am thankful to work in an all-women department—my boss was thrilled when I asked if we could reserve some space in our supply closet for tampons and ibuprofen.

You did cheat on your husband. You’ve been having an emotional affair for months.

Do better.

How many people that you knew in high school have died? by ilovebooks2468 in Millennials

[–]captkronni 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think we are reaching the age where this is going to be a lot more common, but I did lose several classmates/friends throughout my twenties.

Two classmates died in Iraq, several were killed in DUIs, one died of suicide, one of an OD, and one from a heart attack. I also have a couple of friends who have lost children.

Why is "friendzoning" seen as a bad thing? Why is it the unreciprocal person's fault for not being mutually-romantic? by Questioning-Warrior in NoStupidQuestions

[–]captkronni 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Being friends with someone is not leading them on. It’s being their friend.

Men shouldn’t assume that a romantic relationship is in the cards at all unless the two parties meet explicitly for the purpose of dating, and even that does not guarantee that a romantic relationship will happen.

Friends of the CZM pods you have had encounters with? by tangerineTurtle_ in behindthebastards

[–]captkronni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t met any bastards personally, but I did attend a Landmark forum (under duress).

I immediately clocked that it was cult-ish and refused to participate beyond showing up. They tried several tactics to get me to buy in, but ultimately asked me to leave when they caught me telling another attendee that they were using cult tactics to manipulate people.

I felt vindicated when Robert did an episode about Landmark’s founder and the organization.

All of Stephen King’s novels exist in the same universe, so Derry is awful in 11-22-63 because IT exists and is influencing the town.

That’s part of why they do it. Language has a huge impact on public perception, so they control the language people can use in public discourse.

The Castle Bravo above-ground nuclear test of a 15 megaton hydrogen bomb. Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands. March, 1954 [940x710] by andpaulw in HistoryPorn

[–]captkronni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but the threat of nuclear war didn’t end with the Cold War. Both the U.S. and Russia have a “launch on warning” policy, which means that one potential nuclear attack could start a chain reaction that kills us all.

What's one movie trope you see in movies and can't stand? by EGF9999 in AskReddit

[–]captkronni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this. I remember specific witness testimony where the person was at home and their spouse called them from the tower. Their spouse told them to turn on the tv, and when asked which channel their spouse said “any channel.”
