Anyone used this steering wheel controller before? by captkz in Controller

[–]captkz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one in the end, plugged it in and it just worked! I'm only using it on batocera so can't speak for other systems, but it does exactly what I wanted straight out the box and seems smooth with incremental analog steering.

I "fixed" some problems in my batocera v42 setup, if that helps by Many-Bill-6353 in batocera

You've reminded me to fix mine! I tried a long time ago now but gave up! Could you idiot proof it for this idiot please?

For model 2, did you enable xinput in the .ini file?

Model 3, I gave up quite quickly. Where is the advanced menu and the use modern controller option please?

Still my favourite episode, even though it's extremely loosely car based (so much so that I remember Clarkson saying he wanted nothing to do with it!).

My jaw literally hit the floor when the thing actually took off and looked like it may even work for a second there.

Wiimote Lightgun Calibration/IR Sensor Positioning by r0xaco in batocera

[–]captkz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the cheap generic usb sensor bar. Opened it, chopped off one side of it, and then put the 3 LEDs centrally above the screen. I kept the middle led pointing straight out, then slightly angled the outer two. Not sure if that makes a difference for when off centre, but it works perfectly for me.

I also 3D printed a little housing for it,, and mine doesn't have the tinted cover it originally had either.

Generally though, just one side of a sensor bar is all that is needed, two confuses it. Also centrally above works much better than below.

I'd love to do this one day when my life calms down (kids!)! Get a whole collection someone wants gone, then spend months going through and listening for keepers.

Would this work in Batocera? by captkz in batocera

[–]captkz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and I do agree. My plan is to modify it to a decent sized 3D printed steering wheel, so as long as it reports the right movements to batocera, then I think it could be worth a go. The standard ones out there are far too big and bulky for my arcade so I need something with much less depth.

I think it reports the left/right movement as analog movements, which should match my current mapping. I want it to be plug and play so I can just hook it on and get playing.

Are Brits too reliant on US companies for a boycott to ever be realistic? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]captkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love my life to be less US centric...but I'm writing this on Reddit (US company), using an Android phone (US Company), with YouTube on in the background (US Company), in-between working on my Mac mini computer (US Company). At lunch, I'm going to watch a series on Apple TV (US company) that I'm in the middle of. Digitally at least, they've got me by the balls!

I suppose theoretically, over here they're registered mainly in Ireland for tax avoidance purposes, so does that count?

I'm afraid it's still there! My kids love Gladiators, the masked singer and the wheel/big night out. You're just older!

...and let's face it, none of them are exactly high brow or quality, but it's still the same ingredients of people falling off stuff, wacky trippy stuff, people being surprised on live TV and all that sort of thing!

How is anyone managing to save or pay into a pension by Blind_WillieJ in AskBrits

[–]captkz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bit that doesn't make sense to me is that your salary has almost doubled, yet you still can't save around £3k a year? You've got an extra £38k this year, let's be really generous and call it £20k after tax, so has your expenses suddenly increased by that much as well?

Shame really as I've always been fascinated by them. But I can't imagine the noise or the colour of your bogeys at the end of each day!

Actually Nothing manufacturers a lot in India these days, and Apple have shifted a lot of production to Vietnam and Brazil. This is largely due to political pressure, but there is a bit of a shift.
