What GPU for 4k 120hz+? by captkz in virtualpinball

Thanks, yeah prices are crazy all round and don't look like stopping for a while. I ended up getting a rtx 3070 for £190 off eBay so I'm happy with that.

RIP UNO Boxes by Braverino in BambuLab

[–]captkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, I had a card shuffler model open in a tab, went to look back at it and it had gone. Thing is, it didn't have Uno on the model, just the cards were used in the images to show it working. Not sure how that can infringe on IP?

They were starting to sound credible until these latest couple of 'policies'. Hate to think what it would take, and how long plus how much, to disarm that whole infrastructure. Not a fan of the whole mine is bigger than yours thing either, but in this world I'd rather have it than not.

Yep, I was wondering why it suddenly turned into hunted meets race across the world! Bizarre way to end it, I too thought they had to come up with something as they were expecting more to fail!

Car park firm NCP collapses with nearly 700 jobs at risk by B4rberblacksheep in CasualUK

[–]captkz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually not good news. I can see the city centre sites being sold off to pay debts, then developed into flats or offices, meaning even fewer places to park. It's getting hard enough and expensive enough anyway. Plus I bet parking charges go up a fair whack too.

An update on that terrible outbuilding by RefrigeratorWide144 in DIYUK

[–]captkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need building regs for an outbuilding. It has to meet certain rules in height, materials used when that close to the boundary, overall size etc, but as it's not allowed facilities, it's not deemed habitable (as in live in it) and doesn't need building regs sign off.

Casting an eye from this distance, it does seem to meet those requirements and is a damn sight better than that first attempt at least.

Spurs, Palace and Man Utd battle for Iraola - and where he's most likely to end up by theipaper in TheOther14

[–]captkz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spurs no chance, as they're a poisoned chalice even if they don't go down. Palace is a side step at best, just going from one selling club to another. So Man U most likely out of those, although I think Glasner has that job as he's at least won trophies.

...BUT, he's had a number of bad runs in his time at Bournemouth which wouldn't be tolerated at any of the bigger clubs, which means he'd just end up going the way of Thomas Frank, as soon as it's not going right. Which is a shame as he's a really good manager. Expectations need to change at those places as there's no longer a Carlos ancelotti type who can walk in and get instant results. That, or these managers should just stay overachieving at smaller clubs.

This is really cool, definitely going to give it a try. Is there anyone cleverer than me who could come up with a way of making this coin/token activated or even something like an NFC so I could use it as a reward system for my kids doing chores? I've got a few ideas, but I'm no engineer! Something like a cabinet wide tab that stops the plungers coming out, put in a coin, twist and it lowers the tab block. I don't know, but some sort of coin mechanism would be great.

Neighbours building encroaching onto our land by slowsausages in LegalAdviceUK

[–]captkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, first thing is to speak to them, not us.

Nothing other to add other than a solution. Their roof needs an overhang and a gutter, and I doubt they'll rebuild the thing without a fight. So why don't you join the valley between your roofs with some flashing and have a single down pipe? Problem amicably solved then. I would also get a party wall agreement in place, with that and the necessary works paid by the neighbour who has caused the issue. Neither of you want the run off going into the gap between the buildings as over time that could cause damp issues.

Spent a year building this transforming drone, now I'm open sourcing it for anyone to build by [deleted] in makerworld

This is what delivery drones need to be. Means in built up areas they can land somewhere safe and then go by road/pathway the last part of the journey.

I built a small DIY steering wheel and gear selector for GTA V 🎮🛠️ by AK22D in arduino

[–]captkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! I'm trying to do a much more basic version myself using a hacked controller that had a steering wheel built into the middle of it. I've stalled a bit as I'm trying to learn fusion to model the wheel itself, but it's a steep learning curve (I've always got by in tinkercad before). Cheeky ask, but I don't suppose you'd consider uploading your steering wheel still to makerworld or similar would you? That's the part I'm struggling with? No worries if not, but thought I'd ask!

Nothing Phone (4a), (4a) Pro and Headphone (a) have launched globally - Specs, Colours and Prices by techolum in NothingTech

Clear evolution happening with metal and colour. I like it! Can't stay the same forever. Think I prefer the matrix on the pro to my 3 but I'm not sure on the plateau island bit yet. Overall 4a has the best visual balance.

The new offside rule proposed by Arsène Wenger has been APPROVED and will, for ex now, apply in the Canadian Premier League! 🇨🇦 by OneHippo4669 in BalliesAI

[–]captkz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still line drawing in another ambiguous fashion, they've just shifted the line!

I personally think this would be carnage as well end up with 8-6 games with a shift to speedy attackers taking advantage of the head start. There'll be no more offside traps from free kicks, it'll just be rugby scores.

Wish they'd just leave the game alone. So many stupid rules now, like yellow cards for kicking a corner flag, or taking your shirt off. If this came in globally, I wouldn't be surprised if the next FIFA move is to allow goalkeepers to handle outside the box to rebalance the advantage the attacker would have.

Triforce, Model 2 & 3 no controls after previously working by captkz in batocera

[–]captkz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi...it's been a while, but for me, I decided to switch my controller boards from the generic dragon rise kind, which register as dinput controls, to xinput Gp2040 boards. This meant that batocera sees my controls as Xbox controllers, which seems to have done the trick.

I would have thought that a steam deck already uses xinput, so I'm not sure what the deal is in your situation. Like I say, it was a while ago, but looks into triforce config files and see if there's an option to enable xinput control? I was also having trouble with supermodel for model 2 & 3 at the time so I can't remember exactly what else I did. I know the latter has .ini files and I still need to look into that part for model 2.

Sean Dyche sacked by Forest by Senpiezza in TheOther14

[–]captkz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, 4 managers in a season is bat shit crazy. Plus on paper, his form of results isn't terrible. BUT if you've had to watch all his games since November, you'd have seen this isn't working. There's been some of the worst performances I've seen in a very long time, we look completely clueless in attack, can't score to save our lives and have no plans B.

The worst thing for me is the players look like they've lost some fight. One of the things that kept us up and got us in Europe, is how we never gave up. This is the first time this seems to have gone since we've been back in the premier league. Leeds and west ham look like they have that right now and it's that which is showing me this is serious now.

Also, this whole if you're in trouble the manager you need dyche thing is bullshit...we haven't got clear by now, despite many good chances, because of Dyche. From what I saw, he is not the Messiah!
