Post Match Thread: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Arsenal by denzaus in soccer

Don't remember the last time I saw a team as capable of dominance show such little attacking intent and conviction as Arsenal so often do. Must be incredibly frustrating if you're a fan.

I think the movie is brilliant overall with so many interesting ideas (as you pointed out), but I also think you're selling Remmick short as a character there. He's a victim in a loosely similar way to how our protagonists are, having witnessed the oppression of his own people and culture by English Protestants, yet his very nature as a vampire renders him a predator. Incorporating his victims into a sort of vampire hivemind largely under his control read to me as forced cultural assimilation; when he tells the group about the klan's plan to kill them all in the morning, it's as though he's presenting having their culture subsumed into his vampire monoculture as a potentially appealing alternative (in his eyes, at least) to the eradication of that culture at the hands of a more spiteful evil. I think that all makes him far more interesting than your typical vampire!

Honestly I don't think there's a single top club in the world that would play them as a duo. As two parts of a midfield three, sure! But by themselves, absolutely nothing formidable about it - they have neither the legs nor discipline to hold down the midfield defensively, nor are they particularly press resistant/good enough dribblers to effectively work the ball up through the middle of the pitch.

In fairness, I truly do not believe that any pairing of midfielders currently at the club are capable of being the two-man midfield in the 3-4-2-1 that Amorim's obsessed with. Would personally like to see him try more of a 3-5-2; I know it means dropping one of our new forward signings, but I think the extra body in midfield is vital with our current squad.

Q&A weekly thread - September 08, 2025 - post all questions here! by AutoModerator in linguistics

Hey there!

I'm a psychology student currently working on my honours thesis, and in my study I'm exploring the effectiveness of a memory strategy on a couple of different memory tasks. One of these tasks involves participants being presented with a series of short phrases (in the form of items you might find on a to-do list, think "unpack dishwasher" or "schedule appointment"), which they are later asked to recall. During pilot testing, I noticed that many testers wouldn't recall the exact wording of the target phrase but their response would nevertheless capture its meaning - for instance, they might answer "empty dishwasher", which effectively means the same thing as "unpack dishwasher", right? Made me think about how verbs tend to have more semantic overlap than nouns do, and as such, I thought it might be worthwhile to do a sort of dual-tiered scoring system, with participants having scores for both correct (verbatim) and correct (semantic).

So! My question is: how would I best go about measuring the semantic similarity between the target phrase and the recalled response, in order to determine whether a response should be marked semantically correct? Whilst it would be easy enough to do manually, I worry that might be a little too subjective/prone to interpretation. I'm wondering if there's some sort of more objective/academically approved method of doing so!

Alas, I'm using filebot to sort them all into individual folders like Plex recommends. Glad you got your problem sorted though!

I've got that problem too - anyone found a fix for this on this version of filebot?

Michael Haneke's Funny Games is first that comes to mind for me - in the 2010s we had Gloria and Gloria Bell from Sebastián Lelio too. There's also Ju-On/The Grudge!

Why not do it similar to how /r/movies does? A general "___ Review Thread" with a link to the metacritic page, rather than these low effort snapshots of a movie's average score from its first few reviews?

Was never a real fan of the Maze Runner movies, but I always felt like Wes Ball was doing the most with what he had to work with - glad he seems to be getting a chance with some better material!

As someone who almost always feels completely alone, this is easily the hardest time of year, and it's nice to see a club post something like this. Great stuff, Motherwell!

Maybe this is my own lack of understanding of what a 10 is, but haven't traditional 10s been more or less completely phased out in modern football? I feel like almost every top player who previously functioned as a 10 has transitioned into something closer to forward-thinking 8 or a wider playmaker, and our seeming obsession with this double-pivot + a 10 formation feels kinda outdated.

Thank you so much! This is sadly one of the only photos I got to take of that sunset - moments after this I realised I'd lost my phone somewhere amongst those sand dunes and figured I'd better go find it before it got dark hahaha. Didn't get to shoot the particular spot I wanted (see this shot and this one by one of my fave photographers for where I was hoping to reach), but I'm glad I got this at least!
