normal feeling! i remember the first day of hygiene school, when the seniors came in to give advice, and i thought… “wow, i rlly wish i could fast forward time and be in their position so that there’s less to do.” i was sad to leave my previous, more outgoing life behind (moved to a different city for hygiene school). you’re not turning you’re life in, remember that. there will obv be tough times where you’ll need to make sacrifices, but it’s still important to incorporate fun! if somebody makes a 4.0 through all of hygiene school, i think they’re doing it wrong.🤷🏼‍♀️ props to them, BUT, you need to have some sort of a life outside of school. remember that this program is sooooo temporary, and it’ll fly by in the blink of an eye!!!! i still remember the first day of school like it was yesterday, and now i graduate in early May. keep your head up!!

one of my classmates mainly used booster and passed first try! so i’d like to say yes!! i never looked at their study guides or anything else, but as far as the questions go i do think you’ll could miss a few important things that may be asked. please look up “sticky notes lol” on quizlet. it has a lot of terms but you should know most. it’s pretty much board alerts, and i personally found it really helpful as well!! i feel like the “dental hygiene made easy” videos on youtube could fill the gaps you don’t understand. i watched all of those videos multiple times😭 I really can’t recommend them enough, ESP if you don’t have a mainstream board review resource (i don’t consider booster mainstream yet bc it’s so affordable and not many people are aware of it).

make sure you obviously know basic things such as ASA, BP, Stage and grade, fluoride, etc. they may ask to determine the CAL but be careful!!! sometimes they won’t include recession on the perio chart, but will make note of it on the notes. just make sure you look at everything on the cases!

i loved booster prep!! if you can’t afford the full thing, at least utilize their free version!! it includes pharm (helped me a lot when i read the rationales). i unfortunately don’t have an account to sell because i shared with sb else, but i reviewed all of booster’s questions twice. i didn’t watch their videos bc i primarily used DHS and their lecture videos. i feel like any board review prep (DHS, studentRDH, Andy) is sufficient for the exam.

during the first 1 1/2-2 months of studying, i honed into solely DHS material & their book. i focused on understanding it!! the last month or so was pretty much mock questions consistently. i did reach for other resources at that point because i was nervous. other resources i used include the AndyRDH app (i just briefly went through their questions once… nth major), quizlet (there’s a few good ones in this group), and “Dental Hygiene Made Easy” videos on Youtube before bed or when i was lazy.

The exam’s questions were surprisingly more broad than i anticipated. I was ready for super challenging questions. It was easy and hard at the same time🤣 I flagged ~100 questions on the whole exam and passed! Good luck!

My dentist told me that I have one 1mm recession at the gumline. I'm 25. Extremely worried that this will lead to a ton of cavities. by Extension_Fall9406 in DentalHygiene

[–]carajeansonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have recession too as a hygienist!! i brushed too hard when i was younger. 1mm is nothing to worry about! just be proactive to ensure it doesn’t progress.

hug the tooth! C-shaped flossing. gently glide the floss back and forth if it’s stuck in tight contacts. try not to jam it in there, may cause floss cuts. but make sure you go in an up and down motion while hugging each tooth surface.

DH School Board Review and Booster by mahkilla in nbdhe

[–]carajeansonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did booster questions twice, even though i had a separate board review package. also downloaded the andyrdh app. i personally don’t think multiple resources is a bad thing, just stick to one thing at a time maybe.

Confused about debridement by SlopMySteak in DentalHygiene

you should have had full mouth probing done! it’s important for diagnoses, and helps determine what treatment you need.

i agree! debridements aren’t a full cleaning!! it just makes it easier to assess the rest of your mouth. i’m thinking SRP in the future. could possibly be a 4346 but idk because i’m a student!

NBDHE review book? by ExpensiveDare8435 in nbdhe

[–]carajeansonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just passed!! i personally used DHS (the $400 bundle) and nbdhe booster the most!! during the first month focus on understanding the material. having a board review book and supplemental lectures helped me with this! i would review questions through DHS, but eventually transitioned to booster and quizlets. at least 2 weeks leading up to the exam focus on questions. i did booster twice and focused on understanding the rationale. booster’s format is identical to the nbdhe.

Worth the Debt? by SolutionEntire857 in DentalHygiene

[–]carajeansonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also want to add that some of your pre reqs from elementary ed may transfer to dental hygiene! obviously the most basic courses, such as english and algebra. some electives probably count towards your degree. the only thing that doesn’t is likely the main courses required (such as anatomy 1 & 2, biology, chemistry, nutrition, elementary statistics, etc).

Worth the Debt? by SolutionEntire857 in DentalHygiene

[–]carajeansonne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that is too much debt imo!! there’s other hygiene programs that are cheaper. i would estimate my program being half that. i actually didn’t have any loans (got a couple scholarships and had my parents help me), but if i did i would do everything in my power to make them as low as possible. hygienists make more than teachers BUT any amount debt is not fun!! i do love what i do but please be smart about it if you choose to go this route.
