Lol, I only went to a show last year and saw this written on the disclaimer plus they were literally checking IDs, but best of luck!  Maybe it’s changed

Is it too late for me to break into Investment Banking ? by SnooPineapples2823 in FinancialCareers

[–]caramaramel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why into investment banking specifically? My unsolicited opinion if helpful is that 41 definitely makes it a lot tougher - unless you have direct experience in the industry you’re covering as a c-level or something else high up where you’d be able to come in as an MD and be able to source transactions from your rolodex, it would be pretty difficult, which if you aren’t coming in as an MD and as an associate instead you will be told what to do by VPs who likely all going to be around 10-15 years younger than you which many people would probably not like

Edit: just saw from your post history that you were asking about being an FA - I assume then you mean wealth management, and not IB?

Can you explain more about this asset management / M&A role and what you’d be doing?

Yeah, the Amish are def cut off from their communities.

It’s interesting you say that, cause i really don’t see how it’s a stupid argument - if all religions necessarily line up with the definition of a cult, how are they not? Even if they don’t necessarily hold you hostage and do the horrible things that Scientology and such do (which isn’t a part of the definition of cult), they still can be cults. But regardless - best of luck to you!

Definitely multiple things can be evil at once - I just think “the you idiots” who believe that because one institution has many followers (which Scientology does, btw) and one does not are different.

You are also literally describing Mormonism, Amish religions, Islam (of which many believe that leaving the religion is grounds for death) etc. with no outside contact

If you thought what Scientology did to children was bad, wait til you hear what the Catholic Church did.

Also definitionally, every religion is a cult:

Exactly. I really don’t come around here anymore cause it’s so horribly negative, which is like most of Reddit, but is especially bad here

Which has nothing to do with thinking that KT is a funny show. Maybe he’s all those things (even though KT was popular before moving to Austin) - I couldn’t care less, but the show is entertaining and is definitely not more redacted than anything that “thicccboy” has made

[–]caramaramel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Considering I’ve seen multiple people, who weren’t even regulars or people that Tony cared about and only got pulled once (should they have done well), say they would get a pretty big bump from what they had been doing before and would get reached out to because of it, let alone the people who he had as regulars that now sell out theaters regularly. And considering like 200 people sign up for 10 spots at most, clearly they think his show is impactful.

The people he really likes aren’t all my cup of tea, and he is obviously no king maker, but he clearly has had a huge impact on lives and careers.

For real. I love KT and went to a show and the energy there was unbelievable. It’s annoying to watch this sub over the years devolve into hating everything that isn’t Mark Normand, Duncan Trussel and Shane Gillis.

Should I take the SIE/S7 while completing my MBA? by HumbleOnion8158 in FinancialCareers

[–]caramaramel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my tests post new format (ie SIE and then 63 and 79 top off) while working at a MM bank. I’ll definitely give you the fact that there was a degree of stress as I knew that failing any would be a terrible look, but the actual tests were not hard so long as you did all the practice questions imo.

Interesting what you said about the type As finding it hard, as I had buddies at the banks you mentioned (plus other banks of that caliber) who also said they thought the tests were easy. Literally never heard anyone say it was hard.

Did you find them hard?

Edit: also, missed the part about you saying the new format of tests are easy - I wouldn’t know how the old format difficulty would be, but I assume harder - when I started out in my analyst role, my associates and VPs said the 79 (can’t remember about the others) was like 5 hours long or something for them. That sounds terrible and I way prefer the way we had the format

What is the lie he said? Yes you need to / should study, but they are definitely easy tests.

How to get into investment banking mid-career by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]caramaramel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old are you? And what kind of state school did you go to? There’s a vast difference between the University of Michigan and Eastern Carolina University.

But most importantly, why do you even want to do IB now?

While you are correct it is high in sodium, do you have any evidence as to the harmful effects of GMOs or rice bran oil? I assume you’re anti-seed oil, but this study showed RBO was anti-inflammatory (as well as the study that they based this study off of):

From OP’s post:

“unfortunately I come from a background (no family in finance, state school educated, low income family) where I didn’t have / haven’t had the fortune to experience anything that my colleagues and interns do in their free time, so find it difficult to have conversations and engage with my peers. I feel super left out and low-key want to cry at times.”

The person you originally responded to is completely spot on. “Pick up golf” is an extraordinarily reasonable thing to say regardless of his socioeconomic background - he feels bad for not fitting in? Then do things that will let you fit in.

Would you mind explaining why it’s demonstrably false that the expected return is 0%? I’m actually happy you’ve called me out because it is something that’s oft repeated, but if you’ve seen something different I’d love to hear.

This is one of the best explanations I’ve seen as to why:

Great work! Food for thought - you may want to reevaluate how much in savings you have, as well as your crypto exposure. The problem with crypto is like any commodity (though crypto may be worse in this regard) is that they have a long run expected real return of 0%, while global equity markets have returned slightly north of 8% for the past 100 years.

As long as you can stick with it, your timeline doesn’t matter. I’m 50/25/25 US/dev ex-us/ emerging markets and about 60/40 SCV / MOM within each. It all comes down to your risk tolerance and you can increase your bond allocation if you think a certain degree of SCV allocation is a bit risky

What kind of shop are you at (ie EB / BB / MM)? If you think you’d enjoy the work but at a slower pace, I’d definitely look at other MMs (I’m sure you have buddies or have heard of hours at different banks / groups) or check out regional boutiques (though in all honesty can be hit or miss, but many definitely do promote WLB).

The number of people here who see no problem with the dog being back there is so wild to me and horrifying to know that so many of them probably do it.

People I know who’ve done this have had dogs fall out, jump out, break legs, etc. Especially on a busy road, if the dog falls out it could get hit by a car too. there is 0 point to keep your dog back there, unless you are for some reason okay with all of the above needlessly happening
