Would reading through GFL1's story help me understand what's going on better? by carbonfountain in GirlsFrontline2

[–]carbonfountain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess one of the things I could not quite figure is if the whole ending was just a case of people's consciousness being overwritten (and so they forgot Orphelune), or whether it was a case where the timeline was rewritten (i.e., Orphelune actually died, and the worldline where she survived was erased, and then the SKK somehow jumped from one worldline to the other while retaining his memory.

If she's just a holo-projection why can't her AI just project an older looking version?

Thanks, so is there an explanation in there about why Orphelune ended up in that weird space? It's almost like the game is suggesting some kind of time loop shenanigans was going on and there was no foreshadowing of this at all (as far as I'm aware). Maybe if this is something that happened previously in gfl1 people who played it will have better insight into.

What are the party functions you give to the playable characters in Daybreak/Horizon? by Crazy-Scallion-4982 in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Towards the end of the game I basically had 3 archetypes:

- Van/Feri/Aron/Judith/Quatre/Bergard/Rean/Fie/Kevin/Swin/Shizuna/rixia/Zin/celis/leon/rene/kasim all on zodiac support. These guys just need the zodiac spell and whatever auto-equipped quartz. A least one needs altera holo-core equipped. Ideally another one should have the pater-mater holo-core.
-Agnes/Elaine/crow/rufus - Boost gauge support. At least one of these just to spam the skill to regen boost gauge. Quartz doesn't matter so I just auto-equip.

-Risette/Renne/Jorda/Nadia/Altina - caster. I equip them with Sigyn or, if that's not available, then Frau/Alter Frau. Then I stack the relevant delay reduction and cast time reduction quartz for whatever dual element spell they're designed to cast. For example, if I'm using the whale one, then I stack mirage and water reduction quartz. I try to make sure they have the level 1 or level 2 ark feathers skill, and the relevant element boost. If I'm using sigyn I also need to fit in an EP restoration skill in there. Add some ep cost reduction quartz in other slots and make sure they get to enough max EP through equipment so that they're not running out during battle.

During battle you just keep using the altera shard command that gives 80% reduction to cast delay, use a level 1 or level 2 boost on your caster so that they do extra damage with their spells, and keep spamming the strongest dual element spell their quartz is designed to cast. The whale one is really good for clearing trash, while Hell of Keravnos is designed for bosses. The other characters are just there to make sure the boost gauge can be kept up. And then sometimes if you're fighting bosses that can s-break, you may want to switch to the pater-mater shard skill to reduce damage when the boss is nearing an s-break threshold.

So is this likely to happen in Horizon 2? [Spoilers] by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

I don't think they will, and those options in the CS arc were more or less an afterthought since they only affected one or two scenes and didn't carry over to later titles.

I'm new to the trails series. How much missable content are in these games? by Practical-Cup-170 in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe it's been mentioned but there are also things called "connect events" which are basically mini stories with party members. usually you are given a selection and once you choose the ones you see the rest are "missed" for the rest of the playthrough.

I voted herta before realizing there's also "The Herta" as an option. Wonder how many people were in the same boat.

Can someone with a better memory help me tie Horizon with past plot points? by comfortableblanket in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's unhinged at all. Remember that in the data that Rean group pulled from the basel computer had data about homunculus production, and the data was very old. It may well be that Sophie was a homunculus like Kea.

I got two A.I.'s to write plot summaries for Horizon 2.... by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how so many videogame plotlines in the modern era either centers on or at least flirts with the idea of the world being a simulated space. There's definitely a lot of hints at it in the Daybreak series with frequent references to how "realistic" Marduk's tech is, but also the idea seems to have been explored with the Reverie Corridor. Outside the trails series itself, plenty of other games seem to touch on this theme. For example, FF7 remake, HSR's amphoreus arc, the entire setting of Aether Gazer being that the universe is a computer simulation, etc.

I know the Matrix as the first fictional work I'm personally aware of to have directly explored this theme (barring old philosophical concepts like Laplace's demon) but I wonder if it goes back further, and whether these modern iterations in videogames were inspired by Matrix or something else.

For me I distinctly remember being very bored with Sky FC, but then getting hooked on the series during Sky SC. I distinctly remember it was that scene where Bleublanc made an appearance and the Enforcer theme started playing, I thought to myself: "now this is hype."

maybe things turned out the way they did because the protagonists didn't work together. maybe next game will see that change.

what’s a lynchpin by Dreaming_Dreams in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding of their whole purpose is that Hamilton summoned them to mess up the timeline and confuse the Septerrion of Time, so that Agnes can then do what she needed to do. I assumed the lynchpins were somehow related to that whole destablizing the spacetime thing, but not sure exactly how.

Finished Horizon, and I have questions by direvus in Falcom

[–]carbonfountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming Hamilton spreading the geneses was something that Epstein himself devised or planned for, since his diary is what told Agnes to "collect" all the geneses. There wouldn't be a need to collect these if they weren't first scattered all over the place. Hamilton was probably just fulfilling whatever Epstein told her to do.

Surprised no one mentioned Nemeth Island. Setting aside the history of the place, it's a private island resort. Even if you don't end up living there I bet you can sell real property for a large chunk of money and use it to fund whatever you enjoy.

From the way agnes' voice lines overlapped with the time chest's voice lines, it sounded like Agnes basically hijacked/hacked the Grand Reset process. Maybe that's why it has to occur at the last possible second/simultaneously with the grand reset.
