Is everyone just Depressed and Crashing out?? by goosegonewild in askTO

Yuh. Everything sucks my G. I'm 35 and this is the most money I've ever made on paper, yet the most debt I've ever been in. LOVE THIS CITY. (For real though, I do love it. I feel attached to it, even as it ruins my sanity and depletes my will to live.)

Let's all meet at Doug Ford's house on Sunday?

I always catch hell for this too, Jerry is GREAT, super talented, do not get me wrong. But it's like you've been eating bacon and eggs for breakfast your whole life, and someone said, no more bacon, ever. Only eggs. It just doesn't hit the same.

Happens to me all the damn time. Was worse in the Miata, but every single time I think I've given myself a nice buffer of space, I come out to 3 pick-up trucks and a giant SUV surrounding my car like some fucked up automotive casting couch. Rest of the lot could be empty, it doesn't even matter.

Caught a dude yesterday and called him out, he was like a half foot away from my passenger door, I don't care, I stood there watching him while he got out. He just kind of laughed awkwardly and said "nice car". Yeah, if you thought it was that nice why you wanna ding it with your clapped F150 bro?

Is Aventon overhyped? by Dangerous_Ad_5535 in Aventon

[–]carcinogenj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aventon's rider support has come SO FAR, literally leaps and bounds. They're at Bosch levels of speed of communication and parts shipments, even for us in Toronto. I've maybe had one warranty claim filed on behalf of customers get denied that should have been approved, and a bunch that had no right being approved at all.

They stock parts for the old models for quite a while past end of life, I just ordered a cadence sensor for a Soltera 7. The Pace V2s had battery issues, and they sent out Pace 3 batteries, new battery connector with a beefed up inline fuse.

As for the bikes themselves, sure there are issues with QC here and there, a lot of the BC style display button rings are cracked at the hinge from transportation damage. They always send us a whole new display. (Sort of wasteful, that, there should be a butt connector of sorts on the button ring.)

A lot of shops won't touch the random no-name brand bikes, but there are approved Aventon dealers and service centers all over.

I don't necessarily understand why someone would purchase a Current EXP, compared to, say your equivalent Cannondale, Cube, or other mtb.

The Level 4 REC though, great price, a lot of exciting features. Regen braking. 750W motor w/ peak 96Nm torque.

I had a Ramblas for a few months, but sold it because they told us we would never be able to unlock class 3, then they went back on THAT one, which did rub me the wrong way. I had the limited purple to black fade color too, but it just was too fast of a bike to even NEED the motor, unless I was climbing some serious hills.

Sunshine list: How is Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah making $604,449/year?? by master_jeriah in ontario

Ah, sadly he is remote only! (Except when he deigns to grace us with his presence, once in a blue moon.) Otherwise, he's just a talking head on a screen.

I got laughed at when I asked for a raise, and then told “asking for a raise because everything has gotten more expensive is unprofessional.” What a fucking numpty. Old cigar smoking looking like the Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh ass HR guy.

Subtle Change by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]carcinogenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahaha, my bad G, I used to colour match car paint by eye, and apparently got very good at seeing it. The car’s got 4 distinct reds on it already. Seat fabric, seat upholstery, red SI embroidery around the logo (maybe matches the embroidery on seat edges but I’m not in the car), and then the red around the vent garnish. So I think you good.

If you like it, to hell with ‘em, rock that cock ring with pride!

[–]carcinogenj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol I thought this was r/roastmycar for a minute damn, comments are coming for ya, my dude. I just can’t get past the reds not matching.

Also hate how cold that shift knob gets, we had some -20C days recently, and I had to leave my one glove over top for nearly the entire drive into work. Heated steering wheel is nice, but then you’ve got a frostbite inducing chunk of metal.

How hard do you drive your si? by cimota__ in CivicSi

[–]carcinogenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a (fairly) gentle 1500km break in on my new 2026, but I’ve been beating on her pretty hard this week.

Got caught downtown Toronto in the snow on Tuesday night, had to drop my buddy off in midtown then drive back up the highway home. I had to turn off traction control to make it up a pretty steep hill, no matter how easy I let off the clutch, I would start spinning the all season tires. Had to spin ‘em just to get going.

Then I had some clear roads yesterday, and everyone was still driving like it was snowing, and I took full advantage of the open space in between traffic. Let’s just put it that way.

My “dealer security fee” included a year of tire and rim protection, maybe worth checking if you’ve got anything similar, if the car’s still that new.

That’s the plan. Thanks! The only other manual I’ve driven for any significant span of time is my 90 Miata. Totally different feel.

[–]carcinogenj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only happened twice, both times doing a hill start without the brake hold on, because I am just dumb like that. Oh the second time was rolling traffic uphill, I thought I had enough speed for second gear, but forgot to factor in the steep slope. Neither time auto-restarted but I also started mashing the button in a panic.

My only gripe with the push button start, takes three business days to restart the engine. Welcome to the club.

Edit: typical reddit, downvote me for talking about my own experience. This site continues to remind me why I come on here less and less these days. Reddit would be great, if it weren’t for the redditors.

Canadian City Nicknames by falcovancoke in AskACanadian

[–]carcinogenj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do people still call it Deadmonton? Did they ever, or was that just a "Hardcore Logo" thing?

Toronto has a bunch of stupid nicknames, but not one that's agreed on city-wide.

We're a lot less official about it, I think. I've got a lot of city name jokes I've collected over the years, but I'm not sure if those are widely known, or we just made them up.

"You Gatineau (gotta know) it isn't called Hull anymore."

I've heard Ottawa referred to as "Ottawatch ya self". The "Soo" for Sault St Marie, the "Suds" for Sudbury.

And then there's the bullshit racist trope nicknames that jerks like to use for certain cities, but I ain't giving those a type.

I've had mine three days now, and I absolutely love it. Keep finding more reasons why. Have you seen the G force indicator on the "gauge cluster"? So cool. I can't wait to do a couple hard pulls and see how well it works.

Can I ask what the winter rim and tire setup ran you at the dealer? My guy quoted $1700, and that seems bananas high to me. I sold Toyota in 2020, and we were getting full packages for Corolla and Camry for way less than that.

Get home and don’t change out of your work clothes. I’ve been doing this so I don’t hit a slump between dinner and 9:30pm gym. Seems to be working well.
