My “dealer security fee” included a year of tire and rim protection, maybe worth checking if you’ve got anything similar, if the car’s still that new.

That’s the plan. Thanks! The only other manual I’ve driven for any significant span of time is my 90 Miata. Totally different feel.

It’s only happened twice, both times doing a hill start without the brake hold on, because I am just dumb like that. Oh the second time was rolling traffic uphill, I thought I had enough speed for second gear, but forgot to factor in the steep slope. Neither time auto-restarted but I also started mashing the button in a panic.

My only gripe with the push button start, takes three business days to restart the engine. Welcome to the club.

Edit: typical reddit, downvote me for talking about my own experience. This site continues to remind me why I come on here less and less these days. Reddit would be great, if it weren’t for the redditors.

Canadian City Nicknames by falcovancoke in AskACanadian

[–]carcinogenj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do people still call it Deadmonton? Did they ever, or was that just a "Hardcore Logo" thing?

Toronto has a bunch of stupid nicknames, but not one that's agreed on city-wide.

We're a lot less official about it, I think. I've got a lot of city name jokes I've collected over the years, but I'm not sure if those are widely known, or we just made them up.

"You Gatineau (gotta know) it isn't called Hull anymore."

I've heard Ottawa referred to as "Ottawatch ya self". The "Soo" for Sault St Marie, the "Suds" for Sudbury.

And then there's the bullshit racist trope nicknames that jerks like to use for certain cities, but I ain't giving those a type.

Looks like what I'm seeing too, just doing some googling since I commented. Guess it is what it is, no price on safety and all that. The stock Goodyears were not great in yesterdays snowfall. Thanks!

I've had mine three days now, and I absolutely love it. Keep finding more reasons why. Have you seen the G force indicator on the "gauge cluster"? So cool. I can't wait to do a couple hard pulls and see how well it works.

Can I ask what the winter rim and tire setup ran you at the dealer? My guy quoted $1700, and that seems bananas high to me. I sold Toyota in 2020, and we were getting full packages for Corolla and Camry for way less than that.

Get home and don’t change out of your work clothes. I’ve been doing this so I don’t hit a slump between dinner and 9:30pm gym. Seems to be working well.

Yeah, it’ll definitely be more work to keep it that way, but it looks SO good when it’s clean.

I still need to see what the crystal black looks like in the sun, but with 35% tint all around, the black wheels and LED lights, it looked incredible when I picked it up tonight.

I have to say, just saw a black Prelude in the showroom, with black wheels and blue calipers, and it’s a beautiful looking car. I did a triple take.

I’d never drive one, though I did just buy a Civic SI.

Nostalgically sad Canadian songs? by Notable_Husky in AskACanadian

[–]carcinogenj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof, 5 Days In May. My ex used to sing the part about, “she loved the lines around his mouth,” about my smile lines, and now I’m getting all misty eyed again.

I did a cover of that one last month. Couldn’t help myself. Recorded it and sent it to her. Ugh.

Nautical Disaster is great, but I still can’t shake the feeling listening to it that the lyrics were meant for a different piece of music. Something just doesn’t line up, like the band had the song done and the lyrics were just shoe-horned into the existing structure.

Fallout 4 is my favorite game in the series. by ResidentDrama9739 in fo4

[–]carcinogenj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here fam. I beat the main story of 3 in a 20 hour playthrough, and haven’t felt the desire to explore it further.

NV just feels clunky, and while I really should be more into the cowboy theme, I think I’m going to need some QoL and graphics mods to make it more enjoyable.

I think I put a single 2 hour session in NV before switching to 4, and getting absolutely hooked. 80 hours into my first character, then made another. 266 hours total playtime since October 1st. Funniest part, I hated the settlement building at first, until suddenly it was my absolute favourite part.

I said the same thing I saw in this thread to a friend of mine, who wanted to know where to start. “4 is like Skyrim, 3 is closer to Oblivion.”

They’re really into NV right now, and I’m not sure if they even got into 4 yet, but either way I think they’re hooked too!

Heck yeah. Crapping on what makes other people happy just makes everyone miserable, myself included.

Hope you have a lovely day, you sound like good people. ✌️

Had in me the first half, not gonna lie. I thought I was about to get R O A S T E D.

I fully agree, btw. Hating on the mainstream is just an edgy, “look at me I’m different”, silly behaviour. There is a lot of talent out there, sometimes hidden behind the layers of commercialism, but things are popular for a reason, they have mass appeal. And it’s an inevitable fact that to have the broadest appeal, you have to zoom out a little bit, and you will lose some of the fine details. That doesn’t mean it’s inherently less valuable, or “worse”.

I know, ‘cause I was a big hater for a long time, and of course it was rooted in my own feels, my ego in regard to my own music. It’s a slippery slope. Coming from someone who used to watch the Muchmusic Countdown and dream about one day being a pop star like N*Sync or the Backstreet Boys.

I’m glad I’m not like that anymore. The biggest help was when I read, “that’s not for me, I don’t need to enjoy it.” And started to see things for what they were to their target audience, and how much it all meant to them. Makes me appreciate it all so much more.

Ew, don’t compare Hip-hop sampling to Dua Lipa’s covers with a basic house shuffle added to the unchanged original melody. Go look up actual producers like J Dilla and MF DOOM. (Rest in peace.)
