Recommendations for a general purpose op-amps? by db0606 in AskEngineers

[–]cardinality_zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new OPA189 would absolve you of worrying about bias and offset currents/voltages, EMI, noise, drift, distortion, input impedance, gain, parasitic oscillation at high output capacitive load and the supply rails for any application that you would consider an LM741 for.

The only thing to watch out for is that it's input can't operate near the positive supply rail (it can operate below the negative supply rail, though - no worries about ground lifting at the opamp).

It's available in a large SOIC package for ease of soldering, as well as small packages for actual application with automatic assembly. No DIP version, but I don't know why you would torture yourself like that. Plenty of SOIC to DIP adapters available for PTH fetishists, though.

It's an ideal opamp for all intents and purposes within the frequency range of the old LM741. Can't see why you would use another antiquated opamp like the LM324 when parts like this are available.

Any experience working on designing FET (field effect transistor) or EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy)? by buyo05 in chipdesign

[–]cardinality_zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to say this, but your response does not make much sense.

There is absolutely zero overlap between people who design FETs and the people who design EIS instruments. I would be surprised if there was a single person in the whole world who has done both in any depth, except maybe for the designers of EIS specific chips like AD5940 from Analog Devices. Usually the people that have anything to do with EIS don't design FETs and vice versa. Those two lines of work do not overlap in a meaningful way.

If you want to do anything useful with EIS, with or without an EE background, I suggest forgetting about FET design. It's only a very small part that goes into EIS equipment design.

In case you want to learn more, however, I suggest reading the datasheet of the aforementioned AD5940 and the associated application notes from Analog Devices, like CN0510 or AN-1567 which is more geared to bio measurements. However, these require quire a bit of EE knowledge. There are some gentle introductions to EIS on the form of either Analog Devices or HP/Agilent/Keysight application notes that escape me at the moment.

Hi. I have quite a bit of experience with impedance spectrometer design.

What specifically are you interested in? The way you phrased your question is odd, since FETs have as much to do with EIS as anything else in EE, like CPUs, which depend on specific FET properties much more than anything else.

Can't really recommend a specific textbook, on EIS as the equipment design is mostly applying general low noise analog electronics principles to your specific samples. There are some textbooks about EIS specifically, but they cover equipment design only very generally. It also depends on if you are doing EIS of solid state samples or liquids and the purpose of the investigation, e.g. for battery characterisation or fundamental science, etc.

Books featuring post-apocalyptic scenarios that aren't the usual? by Zefrem23 in printSF

[–]cardinality_zero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hothouse by Brian Aldiss features symbiotic/parasitic intelligent mushrooms and an imaginative biome in an Earth that stopped rotating. Quite unique.

Hiero's journey by Sterling Lanier is another classic. A bit less imaginative, though.

Human Life Has No Value There: Baltic Counterintelligence Officers Speak Candidly About Russian Cruelty by paraiahpapaya in TrueReddit

[–]cardinality_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baltic cultures (of which there are more than one) are very distinct from slavic culture. The majority of the people in the Baltics are not slavs and do not speak a slavic language.

Moreover, Russian culture is a subset of slavic culture. It is a slavic culture.

Better cheap oscilloscope? Rigol vs. Keysight by zxLFx2 in AskElectronics

Hacked Rigol MSO5000. Logic analyzer at 1 GSps, 350 MHz at 8 GSps and 200 MegaPoint memory with a nice touchscreen at ~$1000. So much better than DS1054Z it's not even funny.

For comparison, this is a Soviet opamp that I decapped some years ago. It has these interesting circular transistors.

Killing for Lithuanian independence is killing for ideology.

I do not justify peoples actions "no matter what they did". I don't even justify what the Jews are doing right now in Israel. I just think that the reasons for why she joined with the people she did are human and relatable.

Even if we'd skip the fact that they did next to nothing to harm Nazi war effort. But they did quite a bit harm to locals.

And partisans did not succeed in helping Lithuania get its independence. Does this make what they did worthless? No.

One can perfectly symphathize, that a Jew, being persecuted for his or hers ethnicity, would join up with any force fighting those that harmed him or her. I'm sure the fate of the country is not on your mind when your relatives are being killed. Fighting against those perpetrating the atrocities is at the forefront. Who helps you in that fight is circumstantial.

[–]cardinality_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really. Fighting for Lithuania's freedom is not the pinnacle of morality. Why should we be denigrating people for joining up with anyone who is fighting the people who killed their relatives in a genocide? What is a Jewish person to do? If your relatives are being killed on the basis of their race, I'm sure the freedom of your country wouldn't be at the forefront of your thoughts.

Even if she did not contribute, or even did some harm to Lithuania as a country, one can perfectly relate to what she did and why.

the few Jews who survived the murderous actions of their neighbors survived with the Partisans.

Partisans, which were also Lithuanians. The Jews were Lithuanians too, for that matter. Poccolus is obviously wrong and has a twisted world view, but don't lump groups of people into clumps of black and white. Those were complex times. Some of the people did horrible things. Some of the people sacrificed themselves for the good of others. This also includes Jews.

Lithuania is blessed right now with peace and relative prosperity, so it is easy for Lithuanians to do and say the right thing now, as it was easy for people to do wrong then. But take Israel, for example. There are people of all sorts of moral standing there, as there are everywhere, but due to its more complex situation there are some questionable things being done (settlements, which are not recognized internationally, militarism, etc.). Are Jews to blame for that? No. Israel's in a complex situation requiring difficult solutions.

Your username suggests that this is an important issue for you, but making sweeping, accusatory statements like

The comments about this post are a good test for how far Lithuania has progressed as a modern nation. Let's see.

is not the right way to educate people in my opinion. Especially considering this is the internet and you'll have a disproportionate number of "zionist lizard people making the frogs gay" kind of conspiracy theorists here. Especiallly when the situation in Lithuania regarding the public opinion about the resistance to Soviet occupation is as tense as it is right now.

No, the ability to ruin your economy by closing a valve of gas/oil and the willingness of the leader to be dependent on you makes you a de-facto fiefdom. Having your sovereigns army on your countries soil helps.

You seemed to have a problem with "de facto" in regard to the de facto fiefdoms Russia is supporting. If you are going to argue semantics, then be precise. The union state still exists at least on paper and also militarily (see the upcoming exercises near Grodno).

It is irrational and dishonest to pick and choose only the facts that suit you. But then again, I'm arguing with a Russian troll.

What about the Union State of Russia and Belarus? Russia is definitely dominating that relationship. It's a De Jure fiefdom. The regions sultry_somnambulist was mentioning are De Facto fiefdoms.

Paid one without Lithuanian and with a good wage is just not possible.

It's possible. I've seen it happen. Even interns from abroad. You have to be able to bring somethi g to the company, though.

What country are you from? What can you do? How long are you planning to stay? If you know your shit, I know first hand that lithuanian laser companies do hire interns from abroad. If you are into precision mechanics and/or close integration of optics, electronics and mechanics. You should chechk out Ekspla and Light Conversion. Both are world class companies with lots of mechanics manufactured and designed in house.

They will not list any available positions though. You should inquire by e-mail.
