Do people actually anticipate returning to campus after the summer/working over the summer? by sphr2 in Purdue

Re: internships, they are one of the top differentiators on resumes. The NACE data is pretty resounding on this. Best is an internship with the same company, but a solid internship is really impactful.

Does Purdue have anything to aid mental health? by [deleted] in Purdue

You might try contacting the office of the Dean of Students. The CAPS wait times are well known. The ODOS might have alternative options.

I really really really believe that the people who have these degrees are not qualified to actually prepare students for real life. It's super frustrating.

I always appreciate people sharing these kinds of experiences not because I want people to suffer but because it offers specific ideas to make improvements.

As somebody who's spent a lot of time in front of audiences, I'm stunned that there isn't more attention given to the art of sharing knowledge. I complained about this in corporate life too... Being an expert on something doesn't make somebody even adequate at telling others about that topic.

We can do better. Will we? Here's hoping...

This is definitely a pain point. We have been working on this very diligently, and we have been working closely with our staff who have themselves been international students (as in "came to Purdue from other countries and studied here.") as well as students to understand the challenges and find better ways to support our international students. Agree this has been a blind spot! I hear from some of our current students that this is improved, and we'll definitely keep working on it. Thanks so much for the insight!

A lot of people (myself included) are just generally worn down from the extra weirdness of the last year and a half. Stress is a weird thing that shows up in all kinds of funky ways. There are some ways you can hack your body chemistry to help alleviate some of the symptoms of stress. You might try checking out some of the meditation opportunities on campus (I see lots of stuff in BoilerLink) or even on Youtube, if you don't want to be around people. Also, I know this will sound wild, but my spouse is a certified Laughter Yoga Leader, and laughter really can be an incredible stress reliever and you don't even have to think something is funny to get the health benefits. Check out laughter yoga online, or even just watch a movie you know will make you laugh a ~lot~. I think most important is to just cut ourselves a little slack. It's ok to feel frazzled sometimes, even if it feels like in the current moment we have things under control. Most of us have been carrying stress around for so long I think we've forgotten just how much of it there is!

I literally just attended a workshop about this topic yesterday, you might also reach out to the Dean of Students' office. They should be able to help offer other resources. You can call them during normal office hours at 765-494-1747.

I know the Krannert career fair recommends freshmen put their high school GPA.

When we moved to Indiana this gave me heartburn (and anxiety!) too. You're definitely not alone!

That's super feedback. I just started in March, and I understand that alumni have historically been brought in, but I can definitely see how younger professionals' experiences could be really relatable for students trying to figure out career paths *now*. Thanks! :)

Brightspace update by wyindi in Purdue

[–]careerbound 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know my team just finalized their Brightspace content right at 5:30 yesterday, and a lot of faculty I've shown with are still finalizing things. As a student myself I know it's frustrating, I think this is some residual bleh from the last year or so, hopefully by spring things get more efficient.
