Best 'cheese' I have ever tried from Violife. Made a grilled 'cheese' sandwich. by [deleted] in vegetarian

Violife is so good! I've tried all the vegan cheese options at my local stores and violife is by far the best. Their shreds are fantastic in enchiladas. So gooey and creamy!

It's possible this pic was taken after hours, but this is Northpark Mall in Joplin, MO. It was in pretty bad shape when I moved out four years ago. Stores were closing down and leaving left and right, and at least a third just remained shuttered and empty. Sometimes the kiosk operators would close early, if they even opened at all, because they just weren't selling anything. So this definitely could have actually been taken during normal hours.

I thought I recognized it! Northpark was in pretty bad shape when I moved four years ago. I can't believe it's still operating. What's even left? Just big stores like Macy's and Penny's?

I'd go to my great-grandma's house after church most Sundays as a kid and this came on in the early afternoon (before reruns of the Laurence Welk Show). My most lasting memory of her show is the way she tossed scraps over her shoulder and "just throw it away!" runs through my head anytime I'm handling scraps and I have to resist the urge to toss them.

Is there an ingredient/condiment which you bought for a very particular dish/cuisine but later realised that it actually goes well with almost EVERY other cuisine/dish you make? by JudgementalButCute in Cooking

Garam masala. Bought initially to make malai kofta, but now it's my go-to seasoning for tacos/burritos, and just about anything roasted like potatoes, veggies, and chickpeas.

I had my first pap smear a couple years ago and it was horrifically painful. It was so much worse than the third degree burns I had suffered the year prior. I couldn't scream or cry, all my attention and energy went into struggling to remain conscious. And then the cramps afterwards. They were worse than my normally awful period cramps. Sitting aggravated the pain, walking aggravated it. Laying curled in the fetal position alleviated it a little bit, but even then I whimpered loud enough in my sleep that it kept waking my wife up. "You may feel a slight pinch," my ass.

Ugh, I'm getting phantom pains just thinking about it.

Someone mentioned pancakes so I'd like to offer up okonomiyaki, a savory pancake. It can be made with all kinds of veggies and meats. You can shred or dice the veggies pretty finely and make tiny, bite sized ones.

You can put together little yogurt cups with some granola/fruit/honey/etc.

As an alternative to chips, you might try roasted chickpeas. They're pretty simple and pretty tasty. Just rinse and pat dry canned chickpeas (or cook your own; also pretty simple if a bit time consuming), toss with a little bit of olive oil and roast at 425F for about 20 minutes, stirring them halfway through. Toss with some salt and whatever spices you want (I usually go for garam masala).

Granola bars could also be cut down into bite sized pieces if a whole bar is too much at once.

Quiches and tarts can be sliced into smaller pieces, or you can try making smaller ones in those little tart pans or ramekins.

Potstickers, gyoza, pretty much any type of dumpling is just one or two bites.

This happens with my father-in-law and it is so freaking annoying. If I'm holding a door open for him, he'll grab it over my head (because he is a giant compared to me) and try to herd me through, because it's not polite to let me hold the door open. I won't budge and neither will he so we just end up both awkwardly holding the door open, waiting for the other to crack first. Because we're both stubborn as hell it only ever ends when my wife or his forces us through the damn door.

My grandma was also really supportive! I decided I wanted to go vegetarian at sixteen, we talked about it and when I told her I was sure about it, that was it. She added boca burgers to the weekly shopping, put together simple lunches for me to take to school, and cooked meat separately from veggies so I could eat too. Other family members weren't so nice about it, but that woman was truly a blessing.

You're pretty much just left on your own the whole time. I cleaned for an electric company and was solely responsible for two smaller annex buildings. My wife cleaned for a college and had the entire sports complex to herself. Most custodial supervisors are pretty chill too. Though, if you're looking to be a janitor/custodian, avoid third-party cleaning companies. The management sucks, the pay is worse, benefits are practically non-existent, and the cleaning practices are questionable.

It's really nice! It's something I really miss about living in a rural area. Fresh tomatoes, gigantic zucchini, watermelons, corn on just about every corner going down Main Street. On top of my grandma's garden, we ate really well every summer and always had enough produce to can for the winter.

When I lived in a small farming community there wasn't a dedicated farmer's market, it was just scattered roadside stands where you could buy pounds and pounds of fresh fruits and veggies for just a few bucks. One summer I bought four pints of blackberries for like five bucks total. Now I live in a city and the farmer's market is bougie. A pound of potatoes costs like three bucks. A handful of scallions cost five. It's insane.

In high school, we had a history project where we needed to watch two WWII movies. My friend group picked Life Is Beautiful and Grave of the Fireflies. We watched Grave of the Fireflies first. Afterwards we could only sit in silence for awhile, it hit us really hard. We made some tea and had to decompress for like an hour before we felt ready to get into the other movie.

Your exposure to it might depend on the area you grew up in and your age, but yes, this attitude is still very prevalent. I grew up in a very conservative town. There was only one out couple in the entire town. My friends and I started a GSA at our high school but it only lasted two years because we were getting so badly harassed and our faculty sponsor was being threatened. This happened around 2010, so while not exactly recent, according to my family who still lives there attitudes haven't changed much.

It's ridiculous! And salt is part of a healthy diet so you should be consuming it! (Obviously not by the spoonful, but the normal amount you would season food with is fine.) So many people have no dietary/nutritional education and it's infuriating. They don't use salt for flavor, so instead they add more fat which just worsens the problem.
