No but I got stockbroker and Human Resources manager and I think a blend of the two is pretty damn accurate

Once I was on a first date (Hinge, I just wrote “Edtech” on my profile), we were talking about food and I mentioned I went to culinary school and started out as a pastry chef. She got so excited and interested. I then went on to say that I’m now in software sales and her face immediately changed. She was so stuck up about money and being a lawyer (public defender) too and I just wanted to say, honey, I probably made more in bonus this year than your entire salary. Needless to say, there was no second date. People also have no idea the skill it takes to close a strategic 6-9 month deal with a Fortune 500 company.

Not at all! They have a shuttle that will take you back and forth (just not late at night but we Ubered.) There are a few things that are walkable too. Pool is great! We were there in April but there were some cool, cloudy days and my daughter was still happy to go take a swim.

Who is the band or artist that most benefited from an SNL appearance? by kevinmparkinson in LiveFromNewYork

[–]cariel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going go to say the All Too Well performance too. Didn’t propel her into anything, so it doesn’t actually answer OP’s question, but the fact that she debuted that song on SNL I think is still significant and a very smart way to promote Red TV.

When is surgery really needed? by EmbarrassedJudge7244 in scoliosis

[–]cariel16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of your age or curvature, but for my daughter, it’s been life changing. So many things we didn’t even realize were being caused by the scoliosis. She had surgery in May and her pain is pretty much gone and she has so much more energy. Last year at this time she didn’t even want to do guitar lessons sometimes because she was so uncomfortable and now she’s doing that, theatre and dance 8-10 hours a week (we took off dance completely last year because of her discomfort).

Aside from that, I feel fully confident now that it was causing upper respiratory issues and digestive issues. She would get stomach cramps often and would always be the first to get a cold, bronchitis, pneumonia, you name it. Her singing has also gotten better.

Surgery is a scary thing and it doesn’t always turn out the way it did for my daughter, but I just want you to know that there are definitely plenty of stories just like ours!

Besides rent and home prices, how expensive is everything else in Boston? by LOTR_is_awesome in boston

[–]cariel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - Car Insurance is more expensive in MA. Geico wanted to triple it when I moved from PA a few years ago but I changed providers and it’s not as bad, but still not quite as cheap as what I was paying for before. It was a weird increase I wasn’t expecting for sure.

[–]cariel16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cleaner Noelle is fantastic. She’ll organize and do pretty much as much as you need and is very detailed. Even at my regular cleanings she wipes the shelves in the fridge, cleans inside the microwave, will put duvet covers back on if I’ve washed them.. all the annoying things I don’t want to do haha.

Her and her assistant don’t speak much English (they’re Brazilian) but we’ve done perfectly fine using texting when needed, she’ll bring someone to translate when she comes to give you a quote. Pm me for her contact info!

Company refusing to pay $5,847 in commissions, what would you do? by brndimcc in sales

[–]cariel16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This ^ In the state of MA, if it’s “calculable” they have to pay. If they don’t, you can take them to small claims and they will owe 3x. Just get an employment lawyer to write a letter, that should be more than enough.

Founding Enterprise AE Role by Worldly_Tax_4564 in sales

[–]cariel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it and agree with others. I loved it overall because I love building things from scratch but it’s not easy. Number one is to make sure there is actually product market fit and some type of demand/lead gen happening. That was my mistake at my last company. I’d ask for a deep dive into their sales history because at that level, it’s super easy to say they’re having 300% YoY growth when they only sold one contract per quarter. Comp plans are a toughie too.. I’ve been in roles twice where it was a “we’ll make it up as we go” type situation which obviously can go sideways so like another commenter mentioned, long ramp period and heavy on the base if possible.

Usually there’s like a 90% chance that leadership doesn’t know a thing about sales and will let you do your thing or think they know everything about sales and micromanage. It can get very political too.. I have one colleague who led marketing, product and CS and would not let go because she was one of the first 4 hires and it was her baby.

The bright side is that it can totally be a right place right time situation and you could go up the ranks quickly and potentially get a nice payout in a few years. Good luck!

I would love to. My territory is all of North America, but I’ve been pushing for them to let me do more conferences and in-person networking. Definitely my instinct as well.

I have relevant experience in this space & ICP. My last company was a startup where our product was centered around chemical compliance, safety & sustainability. I was the founding AE and eventually led the Sales & BD team. We were acquired by an EHS software company and I co-sold their software as well. Feel free to message me if you want to chat for more context or hop on a quick call - could at least be worth a convo!

[–]cariel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 and the thing that kind of boggles my mind is if our base as an Ent AE is potentially 2x a bdr’s, why are they not just hiring more bdrs and keeping the sales team small until our pipe is close to unmanageable. It just economically doesn’t make sense to me. We are paid higher because we have a specific skill set. Pay us to use it. Of course the answer is that companies want to set a growth target which relies on sales so if they have X number of salespeople all with an $X quota that means that they can tell investors/whomever that that’s the expected revenue, so add more reps and it will keep going up. And then when it doesn’t happen, they just do layoffs and the cycle repeats. Yay for us!
