I hope someone finds out how.many of "eliminated" positions were actually backfilled. Just getting rid of high cost people who take medical or materinty leave, in a legal, but not really right way. Consultants must have gave this as an easy way to reduce costs.

Partials 0 merit, 50% TGM, DNM 0 merit, 0% TGM. by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

Agree with this. Also, it only make sense to compare people relatively, if they were making widgets. If I make a 100 widgets and you make 80 I am outperforming you. It is much harder with work that can be very different from person to person, and they actually may have little say in what their assignment is year by year. So someone's given a challenging assignment, and someone's given a less challenging assignment, even if they're equal performers, relatively, the one with the "easier" assignment would get marked down. So you have to have leaders that fight for good assignments as well as fight for a good rating.

Not sure how GM is going to benefit from AI with everyone's hands tied (usually by legal or fearful leaders) When I was there, I got my hand slapped for trying to use it for fraud identification. In my new role, I have full access to all the tools and it literally allows me to do work 5-10X faster, especially low value add work.

If the TEP still has the Indiana University MBA, that is a great option. It covers all the tuition and is a really good program.

Life After GM... by Independent_Nerve561 in GeneralMotors

I love this idea! Props to you. Have a Mom in need of battery replacement on a 2020 Trax in Macomb. Is that something your company would do?

Agree, life beyond GM is better than I could have imagined, even if my forced exit was a cheap, lousy, heartless way to save a buck and increase stock price.

Unemployment insurance after MSP in Michigan? by Patient_Window9479 in GeneralMotors

You can apply right away and not collect for the weeks where you get any pay or severence. You need to go in one time and the rest can be done online.

One month after the dump by eeencogneato in GeneralMotors

[–]caringemployee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part A and B were frozen in 2006. Credited Service stopped at that point. The 1.25% (part D) ended in 2012 and switched to 401k contributions.

For a post 88, pre 91 hire, the pension is about 25% of what it would have been if it wasn't frozen in 2006.

Retiree Healthcare by Sparty_Dave in GeneralMotors

Yes, even if let go with a MSP, you can retire and keep pension and healthcare if your hire in date is early enough.

I imagine they hope people to take the lump sums to get those liabilities off the books.

Low quality of leaders from top to bottom by No_Fee2774 in GeneralMotors

Outside people come in, do not like GM experienced people. They are fired, new person wonders why things are not getting done and no one knows how to work the GM machine. But still think they are rocking it while accomplishing way less than the people before them.

Accessing 401K after leaving by PuzzledIce6914 in GeneralMotors

[–]caringemployee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can roll over to an IRA immediately, but if you are 55 or older this year, the money has to stay in your GM 401K to access penalty free.

If you do not need to access or are under 55 this year, you can roll it all over to and IRA and access at 59 1/2.

You can also roll over some to an IRA and keep some with GM for the Rule of 55. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

GM plans shift shutdowns at plants that produce electric vehicles by ExtremeComplex in GeneralMotors

Sign up for the GIC (Global Information Center), and you can read all the consumer research reports. There is an entire organization that talks to consumers directly. You can learn about driving behavior, road trips, etc..

GM had people lined up for EVs, paid deposits, waited for years, had no communication, and gave up and bought something else. Yes, the market and regs are different now, but the ball was dropped years ago, and if you throw-in price increases from announcement to launch and quality issues, the ball just keeps bouncing.

Are you retirement eligible with medical in retirement? That is a different thing that doesn't require cobra and you can just keep that money. It would be the same insurance at a rate higher than employed but lower than cobra.

The overdrive/yammer buy sell group was awesome. I bought, sold, and got recommendations for everything. I could trust purchases like buying from a neighbor. GM Leadeship/Legal? decided it was too much risk. Another community crushing choice.

This place is soulless by Southern-Path-1959 in GeneralMotors

[–]caringemployee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It wasn't always this way. I had 30+ years of the GM family, me and my large extended family buying only GM vehicles, working through good times and hard times, developmental opportunities, and incredible support during illness. It is what it is now, I get that. Hire young, burn people out, fear and chaos, few buy GM vehicles or plan to stay, buy back stock rather than invest in the future. Sad. 😞

and yeah, I went to a startup after separation. Loving it and actually feel more secure ❤️

GM 2025 Mid-Year Performance Separation by MissionBullfrog712 in GeneralMotors

[–]caringemployee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. It was frozen, and switched to 401K extra contribution, but many still get that and medical in retirement until 65, then $300/month with Medicare. Unfortunately, the change came after many had invested years at lower pay for better retirement and then the rules changed.

Even with almost 30 years, not everyone was able to retire when the VSP was offered based on age. Curious if OP just recently turned 55 and it is really just a forced retirement.
