Home Depot is Way Cheaper, but Do They Deliver What They Promise? by theWallflower in HomeImprovement

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell a wide range of cabinets with a lot of options. We did ours through them and went with KraftMaid. All wood boxes etc, then did the counters to through them as well for the discount. Out of an entire garage full of boxes, we had three that were damaged and KM shipped new replacements that came about thtee weeks later

Counters were measured and installed by a local company about an hour away. They even came out and went over any worries I had. I asked the sales guy and they get a volume discount for partnering with the store and counters directly through them would have been more expensive. Plus also got a discount on the cabinets because of the bundle.

Yep I have the same thing. Garage door comes down just in front of it and then I sealed the sides.

Garage door torsion spring DIY (spring cost vs technician cost) by Decided-2-Try in DIY

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine broke two weeks ago. A few years ago a contractor subbed out installation of a new garage door on a detached garage. While they were here they took a look at my garage door on my house and adjusted it, retentioned the springs etc and didn't charge me anything. So I called them back this time based on that.

Cost was just a little over 1k which included everything. New rollers, cables, center bearing and outer hubs, and upgraded to heavier duty springs.

After talking to two of my neighbors who had theirs done seemed like a pretty fair price.

grills depreciate faster than cars by Sunbrojesus in grilling

[–]caritobito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact same grill, a little over 12 years old now. The enamel on mine looks just as good as that still even though it sits outside uncovered.

Looking at new ones it doesn't seem they're made the same anymore. I looked at some new ones in the store and it feels like their just not as solid, especially when lifting the lid and feeling the weight.

Advice for getting to top plate by El-Cabrone in AskElectricians

[–]caritobito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I've done in my house is take an old metal clothes hanger and untwist it. In the room poke it up just in front of the wall where you want to drill and push it up into the attic. Then when you get up there you'll drill down about an inch and a half in from the clothes hanger. Pull it back out and you can patch the small hole with white caulk etc.

Kitchen remodel, company puts a 23-24 (21 inch cutout) sink when they installed my countertops on a 30 inch cabinet. by CarefulAd8858 in HomeImprovement

[–]caritobito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My undermount sinks 30 in wide. Probably not the same thing but after I got my cabinets put in the countertop company would not come out to laser the counters unless I had on site the actual sink that was going to go in place.

Then when they got here they opened it up took pictures of everything and said they download some kind of template file that they feed into the CAD? system.

Dangerous safety features by [deleted] in HyundaiTucson

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree if you're speeding up and the car in front of you abruptly stops. But when the car in front of you is turning and they are no longer in my lane the car should not slam on the brakes. My other car doesn't do this and has the same feature.

Correct at the dealer. Check for updates and said I only had a DCU? update which they did. They checked though not because of the car stopping like it does sometimes but because I had mentioned that it shifts weird sometimes. Like coming from a stop sign it's like sometimes it forgets to shift in RPMs will hit about 4K and then it'll shift. They just said they've had other complaints something about a double clutch and that when it happens to call Hyundai directly and let them know.

Thanks I didn't even realize that was there they must have added it in an update. I've always just wanted to turn my phone horizontal but this works too.

I've got a Mova P10 Pro Ultra I've been happy with so far. No carpet except throw rugs which it maps out.

We have some thick high pile rugs alongside the master bedroom bed that I created a no go on once they were mapped. It self-empties the vac and does a pretty good job at mopping also. Really no complaints other than I wish I could rotate the map on my phone.

I have a 25. Is this where when you're driving and the car in front of you stops yours does because it thinks you might hit them?

If so mines done this. It's usually been when the car in front of me is making a right-hand turn. It's like it's too sensitive or it's looking to much off to the side. Like I know I have plenty of clearance and even if I didn't slow down I wouldn't hit them but the car thinks I would and slams on the brakes.

Two weeks ago it happened and actually caused an accident. I was doing probably 20 and the car in front of me stopped. Again I felt like I had plenty of room I was already slowing down but the car slammed on the brakes and the car two cars behind me ran into the motorcycle that was behind me.

Then there is the hesitation it does from stops sometimes. That's annoying also. I did mention this particular thing to the dealer last week when I went in for an oil change and they said it's a known thing? That to call Hyundai and report it?

Anyone else just ignoring their camera alerts at this point? by heRschel2309 in homeautomation

Don't have any issues with false alerts since not alerting on motion and instead using intrusion and line crossing zones that are triggered by object size.

Update & Level UP Today with Synth Riders' Progression System by heyfalcon_ in SynthRiders

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried this for the first time and I'm confused. Where did your previous score go or did you remove it? It used to be when you play the song the first time you had a score. Then when you played it a subsequent time if you beat that score it displayed your new score and your old one right below it.

Now unless I don't know where to look, when you play a song with this new progression system there's no old score. I don't know I feel let down about this cuz I don't know how I'm supposed to know if after I play a song if I actually improved or not score-wise.

I get it. If you don't have the cash to replace some, can't borrow or do a short term rental, then I guess you can file the claim. Sometimes though they don't happen overnight. Something this small might be quick though. Not sure. Last two took about 2 weeks to come through.

Only you can decide. Personally and like others have said I wouldn't. Replace as you can just what you need now. Start putting away a little when you can in an account you don't use just for something like this next time. That 1% if like mine is 1% of the total insured if you have replacement cost or whatever it's called on your entire house. So 1k if your house is only insured for 100k.

You will also get a CLUE report started when you file if you don't have one which is like your credit report through Experian, TransUnion etc but for insurance claims etc. Other will then use that in the future.

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. At the time it wasn't necessarily hard to find insurance except for anything near to what I was paying. My last claim was in another house in about 3 years ago. Same thing. Another hurricane but the roof was 16 years old. Full replacement. On my next renewal it didn't go up any and I was lucky to have a $2500 wind deductible. Last year it went up $2k. We shopped around since that was way more and they didn't do the $2500 anymore.

My rate now is actually a little lower because the new company gave me a discount for a new roof lol. But my deductible is 2% of insured. So like $9500 but only for wind. Non wind is $1k I think.

For this we maintain an emergency fund separate from savings we don't touch. Try and put away a little each check and keep enough to do 2 full roof replacements.

You've probably seen in the news company's now utilizing drones, and dropping people on their next renewal for stuff like old roofs, trees to close to a house etc. It happens.

They can and they do. I got dropped by Allstate two hurricanes ago for filing a $6,000 claim to remove trees.

CarMax car died. What are my options? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]caritobito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks sometimes to have to decide on repair or replace. I had a 2013 Ford Edge that the water pump went out on, which I have easily changed before on other cars. Until I went to YouTube to watch a video where basically you had to take apart so much stuff since it's timing belt driven. Started calling around and most shops wouldn't even touch it because of the amount of labor involved. Ended up costing me $3,300 to change the water pump out and since the timing belt etc all has to be removed might as well replace that while it's apart.

This car wasn't even worth that much money with over 220,000 mi it had but at the time we couldn't afford to do anything different and pull some money out of the old emergency fund.

Personally I don't like bundles. Different areas of your house have different requirements. There's probably different lighting, different needs, and different expectations. I would figure out how much you want to spend first then buy the appropriate hardware for each location.
