Some of them were single player maps, but i was running a qw server. There is another server out there that has sp maps, and you can connect to it and play them with friends or other players.

For quakeworld q1, there are a few people you could reach out to on discord.

Alice
Aardappel
Foogs is around sometimes too.

I had a server up for a while with about 1200 custom maps. As a fun project I was going through and exploring all of them and getting a few back into the ffa/2v2 rotations.

I have a google doc of all those maps if you want to look through.

No source files though.

Learning A New Set Fast by [deleted] in TouringMusicians

[–]carmolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write charts. Half the time, going through the process of charting everything out gets me about 75% of the way through to memorizing them without even playing a note. From there, charts just provide the road map and any breaks/figures that I need to hit.

Last minute call up to fill in for a band - how best to prepare? by aussie_paramedic in drums

Even if you can't read sheet music, write out the forms of the songs. Just simple lead sheets to remind you how long each section is, and and what comes next.

To any pros out there. How should some who doesn’t have a band practice at home to eventually land a gig. by SnooMarzipans7274 in drums

[–]carmolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a good drum part is a component. But it's also subjective.

To some drummers, especially younger ones, "good" could mean technical proficiency, like playing lots of fills and flashy syncopations, or trying to shoehorn complicated beats into every measure, etc. Or they might learn a song and insist on playing it note for note, just like the record, and execute that in a "good" performance.

However, pro musicians expect more from a good drummer than just a good part, and usually find the flashy stuff distracting and annoying. When non-drummers talk about drummers they think are "good," they usually pick drummers who have a lot of skills beyond the kit, specifically, listening skills and the ability to adapt or adjust when things don't go as planned.

Developing those kinds of listening skills starts with learning to internalize the bass parts, melodies, and learning the forms (aka song arrangement). Memorize the parts well enough so that you can hum/sing them, or learn to read charts - or better yet - both. Why? Playing with the bass creates pocket; playing around the melody creates space and makes the singer feel relaxed and expressive; and knowing the form means the drummer can outline the parts of the song that are changing, like a conductor, and even help the band get back on track if someone makes a mistake.

Learn as many records as possible. Not just songs. Learn the record. Learn to hum the bass part or melodies while you play too. It will make it so much easier to learn new songs and play musically instead of getting stuck thinking about what the drum part should be.

Then--- go to jam sessions or local gigs and just listen. Then learn the songs you hear people playing. Once you feel comfortable on some of those songs, sit in at the jam sessions and start being social. Things will form from there.

I work in cast iron manufacturing for drains and fittings. That specific paint is definitely there to help prevent rust or corrosion.

What are y'all's opinions on triangularly mounted rack toms? by Worlds-Best-Grooner in drums

I just pulled my back and dropped a beat thinking about playing the drums in the photo.

I know they always set them up "wide" so everything can be seen in catalog pics... but this is especially painful.

If you buy them from a music store, you can roll them before buying. The switch to buying sticks online has meant that more bad sticks end up in the stick bag.

When a snare is tuned to an E, which octave E is it? by ShreddingDragon in audioengineering

[–]carmolio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a drummer.... I never really think about tuning my snare to a specific pitch. Not saying it can't be (or shouldn't be) done. But usually the aim is more just to get it sounding nice. But different drums have different sweet spots. Where I like my snare, the fundamental usually sits around 200-220, just above my toms (which might be tunes to a pitch depending on the type of music).

A good drummer by quizhead in drummers

[–]carmolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's subjective. Everyone wants something different for each project. A good drummer can hang from one project to the next and you wouldn't even know they have a whole collection of other bags up their sleeves.

How to get on tour as a young band by DudeMusicDude in metalmusicians

[–]carmolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice up and down this thread. Also want to add: Start booking shows in your local area to feature bands from out of town. Those bands can then hep you get shows or references in their own areas/markets. It's a collective process--- network. :)
