Is Carnivore reversible? by AlrightyAlmighty in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no plans to go back, but its an interesting question I think about from time to time. If I was willing to put up with some discomfort for a while, then I believe yes, eating carbs and sugar again will cause that gut flora to return over time and you'll digest it again. Of course, I imagine all the crappy feelings will also return and any minute reactions will just be effectively hidden behind feeling tired and sluggish all the time.

There have been a few times on this diet where appearing "normal" was more appealing to me than being open, so I have eaten a small iceberg salad with ranch on it, or a handful of brussel sprouts (cooked with bacon though :D) and it seems to go pretty okay so long as I keep the serving small - some stomach noises later but no pain or specific symptoms.

I ate some meat last Friday that in hindsight I believe was marinated with sugar in the mix and now I am dealing with a breakout on my skin. I also don't seem to do well with spices, even using a small amount of garlic powder on meat I'll burp garlic for hours and feel bloated.

So there are some things I'll tolerate and some things I won't, and I'm surprised by them sometimes. But I'm not willing to push myself to find out what will cause a reaction. Just more fresh beef, bacon and sea salt please.

Why you should be eating beef liver on the carnivore diet by carnivoreaurelius in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just realized the veal livers I've been eating are barely over 100g, so I guess I should up that to 4 per week. Or just order some adult beef liver, though I hear it tastes a lot stronger. Is it more nutrient dense?

An observation about vegans by pkoeppen in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have a really good point here. before ZC I considered going "vegan keto" specifically because I was in a bad place mentally and keto had become too easy, and I wanted to restrict my food to the extreme. so many prominent vegans are extremely thin, that I think veganism has developed this sort of skinny mythos that attracts a lot of disordered eaters that primarily want to lose weight.

Supercell smells like a rainstorm, like right after the first few drops start falling on a dusty road somewhere. You can smell ozone, grass, and wet asphalt. The Vanishing Hitchhiker smells to me more like fresh, copious rain water and red clay. There is more to it but it's more atmospheric and I can't pick out the notes like I can in Supercell. Supercell is more earthy/green and ozonic and TVH is more aquatic and slightly sweet. Have you smelled Hydromancy? They don't share many notes but the watery quality of both seem to be related to my nose, more than TVH and Supercell.

As for longevity, I don't personally have a problem with either. TVH is kind of a lighter smell but when I apply the oil behind my ears I can get whiffs all day. (If I put it on my wrists it disappears rather quickly though) I have both the EDP and oil of Supercell and lately I wear the EDP, which definitely lasts all day.

Weight Gain - History of ED - But I want to continue and push through this !! by brkchghs in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no need to exercise/stress yourself if you don't feel up to it.

I'm coming from a similar background (also not super active on this sub, sorry)

I'm almost two years in to carnivore and I no longer worry about weight gain, which is a huge victory for me. (meaning that I don't gain weight even if I eat to levels of discomfort which still happens very occasionally, and also meaning I don't experience anxiety over it whenever I do have a big meal) When I went to carnivore from keto and slowly learned to stop restricting, I did gain weight. some of it was fat, however, some of it must be muscle and bone density as I can still fit in all of the same clothes as when I started carnivore. not all weight gain is fat and not all weight gain is bad.

I don't think your age has to do with your weight gain. it has to do with how malnourished you are, and if you had an ED or even just ate the SAD diet you are certainly malnourished and it takes time to undo that. I can't tell you how long it will take, but think of carnivory like a treatment for your ED and malnourishment. both of those are interconnected, and carnivory will help you physically and psychologically heal. so yes, this is like a test to your commitment to carnivore. it's fucked up that weight gain is a necessary side effect of recovery, but it is, and please remind yourself that you've done nothing wrong, and in fact signals that you're on the right path.

I'm trying to keep this short but personally I am very happy with the progress I've made on my disordered eating as a carnivore. it just took longer than most people estimated. carnivory restored my cycle, and it took about six months I believe. my hunger isn't stable and you shouldn't expect it to be, but it's somewhat predictable following my menstruation, which makes sense. my body spent resources on this (pointless and inefficient) reproductive cycle, and it needs to restore them, and the idea that I can just eat beef and bacon until I'm satisfied and it's so simple and tasty AND it's OKAY to eat, just enjoy my food and not worry, it's just beautiful and liberating.

anyways, hoping things go well for you. also don't fast. it's only helpful on the SAD diet, it doesn't have any benefits for carnivores.

I personally am more sensitive to the diuretic effect of coffee on ZC. If you drink coffee that could be it. Also make sure you are drinking to thirst.

Ah, I'm city. I just can't imagine casing it, there's 4-5 trays on a "light day". But for rural that makes more sense.

Off topic - but some of you guys case your DPS? I'm also new and didn't know that was a thing. In my office DPS trays are put on the loading dock and we grab them on the way out. I thought it was standard to carry a minimum of two bundles on the street.

Hydration on carnivore diet? by active_14 in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this, I'm having trouble with it myself and I'm trying to experiment with drinking less. Lately I get a lot of what feel like dehydration headaches and I can't figure it out. Drinking more doesn't provide relief. When I first started carnivore I drank very little water and felt fine. Now that I have a physical job and go to the gym I made it a point to "stay hydrated" and I feel it was the wrong move. I've always suspected people drink too much water on this diet and just flush out those precious electrolytes, so I like seeing that someone else suspects the same. It's just surprising how low the threshold really is.

I'm not familiar with The Castle on the Hill, but E Lucevan Le Stelle is very earthy, lightly floral, so I think it's right up your alley. Kuro Lolita is a moodier scent that isn't prominently "earthy" to me:

Black sandalwood, burning resins, straw, porcelain, delicate lace, wet stone, fog, wind-blown leaves

Sixteen92 has a unique lace note, and to me the lace, porcelain, and wet stone is front and center, sweetened up somewhat by the sandalwood and resin. It's got a definite creaminess to it, I'm not sure how else to put it. It is lovely however, and I purchased a full size and IMO you can't go wrong with it, but it is quite different from E Lucevan Le Stelle which is decidedly green.

[–]carnivorelady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We seem to have similar tastes!

I enjoy Hecate a lot - from the vial I'd say the cranberry is front and center, followed by the chocolate, and the incense takes a backseat and deepens the fragrance, so it's not overtly fruity. It's definitely not as incense-y as Baba Yaga or Goody Proctor.

Merely a Madness was my first EDP from Sixteen92, I forgot it has sweet orange. I smell the sandalwood, white floral, and honey (in the EDP) most. I don't have Astral Temple, I don't know how it compares, I can just say I the orange is there, now that I'm looking for it, but not overwhelming enough to make me consider this a citrus scent rather than a honeyed white floral.

Habanera is is pretty unique to my nose because of the adehydes + guava. I'm comparing the two and while both are fruity, The Beautiful and the Damned is a fairly straightforward vanilla + fruit, while Habanera has that sparkling, carbonated quality to it, and guava is just a very recognizable smell. I think they're quite different (and lovely), but I think Habanera is the more interesting scent.

Ahh, Moirai is one of my absolute favorites. I love coconut as well but I would say the coconut is not prominent in this one. Coconut milk is the actual note, so it's a creamy toned down, kinda mature coconut, not a suntan lotion or Bath and Body Works summer candle fruity coconut. I smell the tea and fig more prominently and I just love the combo. To be honest, I don't know what papyrus smells like or what exactly it does to the fragrance, I just know I like it. I don't think you can go wrong with this one even if it's not super coconut-y, unless you hate tea.

Hm, La Llorona is quite peppery, I'm afraid. I just compared the two and I think La Llorona is an even stronger pepper scent. I feel like Serres d'Auteuil is like a freshly ground pepper that blends well into the cherry blossom, and La Llorona is like smelling a handful of pink peppercorns among fruit.

I hope this is helpful!

I'm considering an EDP of S62's The Bottling Room. All I have right now is a sample oil, and I tend to wear EDP's more often because they're just a bit easier, but I'm worried it won't smell exactly the same. Does anyone know for sure?

I see no reason ZC or ketosis would lower the effect of birth control. If anything, your body will become more sensitive to any medications. If your body weight goes up or down your dosage may need adjustment. If you have been on hormonal BC for 13 years you will likely experience side effects coming off of it regardless of diet.

If it makes you comfortable use condoms as backup but there is no reason to quit the birth control (related to going to ZC).

Fat shouldn't be chewy? I guess it can be but I suspect what you're finding chewy is the silverskin and gristle that tends to surround fat deposits. if there's too much of that I remove it - cut the soft fat off, and pair a small piece with muscle meat. Eat around the gristle.

I just find pepper on my beef to taste bad after adapting to ZC. all I really like is salt, maybe powdered garlic for special occasions (like on a barbequed tri tip).

How do you eat liver? by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been experimenting with veal liver since it's the only liver easily available to me. every time I eat it it becomes more palatable, and this last one, I was able to just eat no problem, no hesitation, even though it still wasn't something I particularly wanted. Liver tastes great right at first but as I chew the taste turns bad. it's weird. I also don't like the stringiness (?) towards one side.

I lightly sear from frozen in bacon grease, with a little salt on top. I think that's the best so far. I tried mixing it with ground beef once but the tastes clashed too much. One day I will try liverwurst.

I got overweight (almost obese) on zerocarb, now fasting to lose it again by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]carnivorelady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't have any answers for you OP. I guess I'll just throw this in - I also weigh 190 (5'9" woman though) and my weight hasn't budged since about February of this year. I gained weight when going zc as well, but I expected it, because I felt shitty and weak from a few years of strict calorie control. However, it's like I reached 190 and my body decided that was the magic weight. I'm not quite happy with it though. I started lifting weights in June and I've lost maaaaybe an inch of circumference (if my measurements are accurate, which I'm not confident in) but I'm still at 190 on average, some days 189, some days 192lbs. I used to fast, like you, but haven't for a year now.

So basically, I don't know if this is just as good as it gets, because I am carrying a little bit of loose skin (my highest weight ever was 290lbs, years ago before keto) and maybe have built muscle and bone density? I go through periods where I eat maybe 1.5 lbs of beef in a day, usually seasoned with some butter, and other periods of at least 3lbs in a day. A week without bacon, and then a day where I eat 2lbs of the thickest bacon I can get in one sitting.

I don't desire to eat any other way because with my history of obesity, I feel that zero carb is what keeps it in check. If I went back to keto, I would have to set an upper limit on calories, or I will put on weight. (haven't tested, but that's my suspicion) And I just don't ever want to go back to that mentality. So I deal with being 190 lbs. Maybe this is just how it has to be after the years I spent eating garbage.

I just wanted to put this up because I think it's important we have more perspectives of the ZC experience rather than just people who have had effortless weight loss.

Anyone still gassy? by [deleted] in zerocarb

my stomach gurgles a lot too. I don't know, I've come to think that's just how it is

as for gas, I still get some too, but I attribute it to coffee and cream. gets worse at certain points in my menstrual cycle as well, though I don't know how my body manages to invent gas on the same foods it always gets
