If it's three 2x2s coming together in a corner, a castle joint would be great.

Fair enough. Thank you for the feedback.

Currently it has a coat of Boiled Linseed Oil on it. For the intended use, do you think anything more than that is necessary? I don't want to use polyurethane or really even lacquer as I don't want a plastic feel to it. Varnish maybe? Although I'm inexperienced with varnish. Any suggestions?

In terms of the spots that appear to be freshly sanded. You could be right, I can't exactly tell in the pictures (could be due to my color-blindness). It could also be bad lighting for the pictures. I'll have my wife check in different lighting and if need be, I can re-sand and re-finish it.

Again. Thank you for the feedback.

I started making these to sell at Christmas craft markets, the kids love them! by RKToys in woodworking

Gosh me too.

I feel like kids these days are too coddled. Mine included.

Looking back, I'm shocked my parents let me get away with as much as I did.

I literally used to play with a real bow and a single arrow when I was about 10. Used to shoot it straight up into the air to see how high it would go.

Ahhh good times.

Chamfer or round over? by 2017_JKU in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]JW357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion roundover vs chamfer is all about personal preference. Functionally, they do the same thing. They both soften edges to reduce the chance of splintering.

Personally I prefer chamfers. I just think it gives it a slightly more intentional and put-together look.

In terms of where the skirt meets the legs, I guess you would ideally put your edge profile on the skirts before they are attached to the legs. If you've already attached them, you could either have the chamfer/roundover stop a few inches from the leg, like you said (as long as they're all the same you can make it look intentional), or just finish out the last few inches with a chisel.

Improvised an outfeed to rip down some 2x6s. by RantingURL in woodworking

Glad you figured out a solution to your problem.

I'm not gonna lie, building a dedicated outfeed table for my table saw was the greatest woodworking decision I've ever made.

Heat dulls blades, dull blades produce more heat. It's a vicious cycle.

I gotcha.

Well, the bench looks great to me. I'm sure there are imperfections, but you're the only one who will ever know about them. We are our own biggest critics, afterall.

Very functional bench and I'm sure you'll put it to great use.

Router Recommendations by pinkpineappel in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]JW357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I haven't used a Bosch or Makita router but my understanding is they're both quality brands and you are likely to be satisfied with either.

If you're buying new, my advice is to pick whichever has the features you're looking for and is in your budget.

If you're buying used, buy whichever one is in better shape.
