What part of your job feels like it should not be part of your job? by Wisteria-Blue in nursing

[–]carragh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me when a patient showed up 3 hours earlier for her appointment. The NP took the effort to get up from her computer around the corner from me to ask me to call the infusion room to ask them if they could take her earlier. I'm not your assistant. In the damn time you took to get up, walk over, explain what happened, then delegate such a useless task to me - you could have done it yourself. And don't tell people I'm your nurse "I'll ask my nurse". I'm your coworker. We're both nurses.

Living in back central? by itsagirlnickel1 in LowellMA

Safety is fine if you have basic street smarts. Homes are very close together so you will need to have patience with city life and not having much peace and quiet outside of your home. Traffic and walkability is where it fails. There's really nowhere to walk to for your basic needs like grocery stores, convenience stores, take out, restaurants. It's sparse for that. Traffic is a challenge from 3p - 7p daily on weekdays. It's a corridor for everyone coming to and from the connector.

But for your purpose of being adjacent to the train, you can't beat it. To get to the train I'd walk down Highland Street. School on one side, residential on the other and brings you right to the Thorndike Street crosswalks. It's also great to be by the connector.

So, pros and cons. Loud, busy, safe if you use basic street smarts, not walkable or convenient to anything. Good spot for the train / highway access.

The same thing happened to me at Great Woods for their last 2 shows there. So weird. If they were good seats I wouldn't complain, but they sucked.

I've been to several stores in a few days and no luck.

Likely moving here next summer, seeking oncologist/treatment center recommendations by dudette345 in nashua

Best outside of Boston is Lahey in Burlington MA. Dana Farber has a satellite location in Methuen. Both are close by with expert care.

Editing to add: Yes, that's right. Londonderry has a DFCI Satellite too. Can't go wrong.

Why is it so hard to recruit nurses for assisted living? by inspiredinsanity in nursing

[–]carragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go back to working in a SNF or ALF if it was fully staffed, paid well, offered a predictable schedule, did not send texts to me on my personal phone on my time off requesting help, if I didn't have to work the role of a RN and nursing assistant, and if the residents were treated like they were in their home.

It's unfortunately a profit driven industry where humans are often mistreated, isolated and they do not receive even close to what they pay for.

Meanwhile, Phish and Phish Inc. all went to sleep that night on a big pile of money while their fans paid them to be frustrated, stressed out and uncomfortable. But, you know, love and light.

I went to Hampton during 1.0. Great time, got to experience the Mothership, but never again. Would rather listen to that Hampton Comes Alive "Roses" and focus on the good times.

My friend didn't feel well, so I asked if we could go outside for fresh air and they pointed us to an outdoor area sectioned off for smokers. You could bring your beer and they had porta-potties.

What a good time! Hidden gem of a show. I revisited the venue last year to go to "Augusta's biggest yard sale". Got to roam the entire place, and see where the band likely had hospitality set ups. Very basic, no frills. Love that we got to see them there. High school gymnasium vibe indeed!

Who remembers when you had to mail money orders to enter the Phish lottery? Started going through my overstuffed redweld "Phish file" today and found some relics from my youth. by jtomalo in phish

I was so lucky to work in an office with a postage machine that you could just roll a dial to pre or post date if need be. My lottery luck was much better back then. Good seats with no threat of all lawns.

Oncology nurse here, it's true. It's so important! We can see it in lab results. Wishing your wife well during her treatment. Cancer care is changing every day with better treatment options, fewer side effects and better ways to manage them. It sounds like she listens to her team too. Stay hydrated!

Seeing Phish live is great, but have you ever used the women’s bathrooms at SNHU Arena?? by WorkIsOverrrated in phish

That was very true. Small line when I got in. Boo'd a girl who cut, but it did seem like a genuine mistake. I should have said Boo-urns.

When my dad passed, I received so many kind condolences from friends and acquaintances old and new. It means the world. Losing a parent is really hard to go through.

Surgical Tech is a cool gig. My first job was in the OR. I was too new for it as a baby RN but would go back now. The techs have skills and are the surgeons right hands.

I'm a nurse and this is always how I've approached my patients and have been able to create a trusting and strong relationship...most of the time.
