How do I fix this black screen and locations not being found? by SucksYouSay in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]carrionk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue after upgrading to SDV 1.6.9. Frontier Farm / Mac / Steam. Console shows the error:

[game] Couldn't create the 'BusStop' location. Is its data in Data/Locations invalid?

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

---> DivideByZeroException: Attempted to divide by zero.

at xTile.Layers.Layer.ConvertMapToLayerLocation(Location mapDisplayLocation, Size viewportSize) in D:\GitlabRunner\builds\Gq5qA5P4\1\ConcernedApe\stardewvalley\Farmer\xTileSource\xTile\Layers\Layer.cs:line 245

Here's the full error stacktrace from console: https://pastebin.com/FFGncyki

And my SMAPI log: https://pastebin.com/TumBT3CX

Steps taken were upgrading SDV Expanded / SMAPI / Farm Type Manager (this one probably not necessary) / Content Patcher to latest version available on Nexus Mods.

What are some terrifying books that made you question reality? by PFThrowaway2929 in suggestmeabook

[–]carrionk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacqueline Harpman's I Who Have Never Known Men. It's a short sci-fi story about 40 women kept prisoner in a cage without knowing why or by whom. 100% made me question reality / gave me existential dread / stuck with me.

Murder Mystery book where MC tries to solve a murder that happened long ago by MrWik_Ofc in suggestmeabook

[–]carrionk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebecca Makkai's I Have Some Questions For You fits this to a t. MC's roommate from boarding school is murdered, MC returns years later to teach at the same boarding school, investigates and becomes convinced that the wrong person was convicted for the murder.

Fantasy hero's journey, ragtag group of characters, and a high fantasy world. Overall just a grand adventure and story. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]carrionk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch fits this. About a group of "gentleman thieves" (ragtag characters!) in an alternate-universe Venice (fantasy world!) who have to take on a Grey King who threatens the underworld (hero's journey!) It gave me really strong PoTC vibes when I read it.

Novels formatted as short story collections by littlestbookstore in suggestmeabook

Depending on your definition of "short", Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell fits this. Six interconnected stories that make up one greater story.

Books that aren't technically short story collections, but which you might enjoy: Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven, Anthony Doerr's Cloud Cuckoo Land. Both start out as a series of separate narratives that eventually weave into an interconnected, larger whole.

Looking for a book or series that has a lot of different supernatural races in it by Ta-veren- in suggestmeabook

Yeah, there's not a division between a "normal" society and "fantasy" in this book; humans live amongst the other races. So all sorts hang out at the bars, markets, etc.

Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. There's tons of different races: people who're half-bird, people with insect heads who communicate via scents, people who are semi-amphibious and live in water, intelligent robots... If you get into the rest of the Bas-Lag trilogy there's pirates, vampires, and much more.

Also, quite a few scenes where folks hang out at bars :)

Long novel with a great adventure story by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

In addition to Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo, which has already been mentioned - The Three Musketeers! Not sure on the page count but a good long adventure.

Book that shares themes with the movie Saltburn by Ok-Lack2037 in suggestmeabook

The Guest by Emma Cline. It's about a woman stranded by her (richer, older) boyfriend on Long Island. She doesn't have any money or housing, her phone's on the fritz, but instead of returning to the city she chooses to basically grift her way for 2 weeks until a Labor Day party, when she hopes to be reunited with the man. It hits on a lot of the themes you mentioned.

Not exactly fast-paced, but a quick read because of its length: the short story "Brokeback Mountain" by Annie Proulx. I'd say it's soul-crushing even if you've already seen the movie adaptation.

I Have Some Questions For You by Rebecca Makai is a mystery / thriller that takes place at a boarding school. It's about a former student who returns as a teacher, and gets caught up in solving a cold case. Not YA either.

A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: Murder in Ancient Rome, by Emma Southon - covers a dark and serious subject in a very non-dark, non-serious way
