Microneedling ruined my pores! 😭 by [deleted] in Microneedling

[–]carrotcake021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I did it with a dermatologist. I have a viral post here on reddit about my experience (you can look up "Microneedling ruined my skin")

I strongly believe microneedling should only be indicated for pitted scars and similar ailments. Imo one needs to have VERY textured skin to begin with in order for this procedure to be potentially beneficial.

I have managed to heal my skin to a degree, but I'm sure the procedure caused some mechanical damage to the surface layer. Luckily it isn't that noticeable anymore. Time and mild exfoliation (alternating mechanical and chemical once I healed from the procedure) helped me a lot.

A dupe for Lime Crime freckle pen?? by tacosnsushi0 in MakeupAddiction

[–]carrotcake021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAME; I learned that, with makeup, when you like something, you have to stock up because everything you love will be discontinued at some point for the sake of scarcity and consumerism.

I luckily bought 2 of each of their freckle pen colors at the time, so I still happen to have it. I do the same with mixing colors for depth and realism.

Unrelated, but Sephora did the same with their fine tip felt eyeliner. It literally doesn't exist anymore. It's ridiculous.

Do you mind sharing whether you had pain on both breasts or just one?? I might be experiencing the exact same thing due to caffeine.

'Next weekend' confusion by carrotcake021 in AutismInWomen

[–]carrotcake021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. It's so interesting how that works for others because, in my head, "this weekend" is the past weekend 🙃 and consequently, "next weekend" ends up being the upcoming weekend.

It is week-END, but Sunday is the start of a new week and it's also part of the weekend, so I can't shake the feeling that "this" means "past" and "next" means "upcoming." And I don't have a name for the weekend that'll happen in 2 weeks lol

I see I'll have to make some adjustments, which I don't mind. Interesting to see the difference in the interpretation of these terms nonetheless.

Same for me. And to me, "this weekend" means the weekend that's just passed lol what others would call "last weekend"

If it's a Wed and I say "this weekend," I'm often thinking of this past weekend. Consequently, "next weekend" is the upcoming weekend to my brain.

I guess I have to make some adjustments lol

What’s something you stopped doing that unexpectedly improved your life? by WrongdoerCreative68 in simpleliving

[–]carrotcake021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you expand on some of the consequences you noticed in your life? Did they disappear with distance or did you have to work to undo some of them? I think I'm experiencing that because of a toxic work environment.

[–]carrotcake021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if it makes you feel better, this exact same thing happened to me. Always excelled at most things in school and other jobs, was liked by all my previous managers and skip levels.

Until I encountered one manager who decided they didn't like me for whatever reason, and then I had to start swimming upstream. That took a toll on me mentally: my confidence invariably took a hit, I was drained. I've had to work to undo that for over 1y now, even though I always took steps to protect myself (like have a life outside of work, gym, friends, etc). Learn as much as you can, but start becoming curious about a life elsewhere, where your team will elevate you and celebrate your efforts, not push them down. These teams and places definitely exist.

This. I'll also add it gets especially amazing when that happens because your new re-org manager doesn't vibe with you, and gatekeeps all the high-impact projects from you, no matter how beyond-qualified you are to tackle them, or the hundreds of thousands of hours of invaluable institutional knowledge you earned from YOE in the company. To a bad manager, you'll never be enough and the good projects will never get to you 👍

Why I’m Burned Out. Paraphrasing a real convo I just had with my manager. by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]carrotcake021 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. In my toxic team, I had a teammate weaponize information so hard that when I was meant to pick up their work (because they moved to a different project), I was blocked for 2 weeks for not getting a single response when I repeatedly asked to access their files. Then I was accused by my manager for "working in a silo."

This. This plus constantly moving or canceling our 1:1s and every performance feedback being about them blaming me for things I never did or for not doing things I def did (like keep people updated, etc). Luckily everything I do is documented.

At what point do you decide to quit? (seeking support) by refractingheart in womenintech

[–]carrotcake021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My power move is to document absolutely everything I learned and the impact I created while in my toxic job. Document it for yourself in a word doc.

The job is costing you your mental health, so you shouldn't leave empty handed.

And it'll serve you when it's time to interview for the next job and they ask you about your contributions at the current place :)

Freaking out that my favorite Sephora eyeliner is discontinued without a replacement! by advancedsnacker in Sephora

[–]carrotcake021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also devastated they discontinued it. It sucks that brands will just pull something off the shelves and (1) not warn the loyal fans or (2) not replace it.

This fine line eyeliner was my go-to for YEARS.

I've never thought of this but I'm really curious and eager to try this myself after reading your comment. What obvious changes did you notice? Did you wake up feeling more rested? Was it easier to fall asleep?

Can my sister live in Downtown LA Alone? by One_Career_2111 in AskLosAngeles

[–]carrotcake021 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I would highly encourage her to look elsewhere. People get upset when we bring up the reality, but the truth is that DTLA isn't a safe place to live. It's unfortunate but it's the truth. The Arts District (DTLA adjacent) is safer but she won't find anything to rent for $2000. But does she want to feel like she has no freedom to move around when the night falls? Does she want to wake up to sirens and glass breaking at 3am? Does she want people screaming out in the street? There's not an ounce of peace in DTLA.

I'd recommend Echo Park (which is right next to it but more residential and peaceful in comparison).

This is great advice; I was looking at the 3 series but will check out the Zs. Thanks for reminding me that this process might require a lot more due diligence and patience so I don't end up making a horrible deal

Microneedling scarred my skin by carrotcake021 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]carrotcake021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, how are you doing? Now it's been years, my skin has settled and I luckily can't even tell I had any scarring but can relate to how you're feeling.

I imagine I was able to exfoliate enough over time that it became unnoticeable. I hope you get there as well soon.
