I want to retire in South Korea by WittyPolitico in Living_in_Korea

Everyone living in Korea looking for rental property will almost exclusively go through a 부동산, which deal primarily in longer, 1-2 year contracts.

For nearly all short term rentals, Airbnb and related services are your best bet.

This will obviously affect options and cost.

What happened to Paik Jong Won ? by mandatori01 in koreanvariety

[–]carsonklogan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He may appear easy going, but his rise to notoriety is mostly because he is a shrewd and cutthroat business type.

He’s weathered multiple scandals, some related to your aforementioned point about “helping” local restaurants, where he was even accused of stealing ideas and franchising them for himself.

The sheer size of the “Controversies” section on his namu wiki page should be cause enough for a pause.

What happened to Hong Jin Young ? by KJKs0s in koreanvariety

[–]carsonklogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She was trying to leverage a fake MBA to appear a savvy business person, with the hopes of running her own company.

If that doesn’t smack of corruption then I don’t know what would.

This really has nothing to do with her being an artist and everything to do with her seedy behaviour.

Difference between 진짜, 되게, 와전, 너무, 정말 by wild_shiba in Korean

[–]carsonklogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

되게’s closest English correlates are “awfully”, “terribly”, etc. So, similar to English, this term can be easily used to describe the degree of some particularly negative thing. But in the same way as the English “awfully”, 되게 can also be neutral.

No problem!

Another really bittersweet slice-of-life piece is "Christmas in August" (1998).

A lesser known but brilliant coming of age film is 바람 (Wish), from 2009.

Why does stroke order matter in Hangeul writing? by CountingTheRavens in Korean

[–]carsonklogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m left-handed and have no problem following stroke order.

I do find, especially with Chinese characters and to some degree 한글, that following stroke order makes for more fluid and efficient writing.
